this will be a good one for my "board game bug out bag" though bigger than most of the game i have in it it's still one of the most portable worker placement games i've ever seen Oh and i asked Trey directly Harvest IS the same universe as Harbor (and apparently also Belfort and dungeon roll)

Woo hoo, glad to hear you enjoyed it despite not liking Harbour. I didn't enjoy Harbour either, found the economy too chaotic. This looks solid, so I guess I'm excited about another worker placement, farming game.

I enjoyed the game too, but I have to disagree with regard to the rules. I found them a little *too* minimalist. There were a few things where you had to either guess or assume. They're not so bad for experienced gamers because they assume that the reader has a lot of game-playing experience; however, I would never recommend this game (or at least these rules) to a novice gamer simply because so much is left out, assumed or implied. A few examples: 1. When you pay stars for buildings or seeds or resources, who do you pay them to? An experienced gamer knows that the stars go back into their respective resource pile(s), but a novice gamer may wonder who they are supposed to pay. An opponent? A discard pile so that the items are never available again? 2. When you receive seeds, you have to keep them silver-star side up. This is implied, but not all at once - it has to be pieced together from various areas in the rules. However, it's a fairly important piece of game play. It should be stated up front. (Actually, the whole 'getting resources' part of the game should really be made a little clearer. In the same way that the 'Expand Your Farm' and 'Plow a Field' icons are explicitly referenced in the actions, the 'Receive a seed' and 'Receive a resource' icons also deserve their own description - even just a tiny one - rather than making the gamer figure it out.) 3. A few of the buildings ('silos') give you points at the end of the game for having harvested high amounts of certain crops. What they don't say is whether you get the points even if you've *sold* those crops and, if so, how you keep track of them. I mean, even if you've sold them, you've still harvested them (which is the only requirement mentioned by the card). But how do you know how many if you've sold some of them off? 4. When you do an action (i.e. Plant or Tend) that's on an initiative card, does it cost the same resources as it does on an action card or the town board? We assumed so, but some games make that kind of thing free. It's potentially ambiguous and should be made explicit. Otherwise you end up with some groups assuming one thing and some assuming another ("house rules!") and then you get arguments if anyone from both groups wants to play together. Those are examples I've came up with off the top of my head, from having played the game twice. Like I say, I did enjoy the game, but the rules could have been 50% longer without being intimidating, and would have added some clarification that resulted in more gaming, and less re-reading, guessing and choosing ways to play. Figuring out the rules shouldn't be part of playing the game. Again, it's fine for experienced players like Tom Vasel, but inexperienced and casual gamers are more likely to be frustrated by having to work this stuff out rather than just getting into playing the game, and do you really want to leave them out in the cold?
