Great review, Mike. It is tough! 10 games in, 196 is my best. I can see that serious optimization needs to take place to hit that 200 mark but I certainly feel it's within reach! My copy of the game came with a component tray that holds all the bits in one, very tidy. Just over a 5 minute set-up. Solid game considering the 30-45 minute play time.

Thanks Mike. Agree with other comments that the retail version of the game comes with a nice organizer tray which would help with setup. The theme is the circus (ringmasters, trainers, tents for acts) not magic but that just proves your point more that theme isn’t super strong here. Nice review as always.

Great review as always. With the high solo score to beat and the puzzle aspect would you say this is better or worse than Underwater Cities?

That’s a really interesting comparison, because they feel so different to me. I think it would depend on the type of experience you’re looking for. UC is a much heavier game than The Magnificent. So if you’re looking for a brain burner, UC might be the way to go. But if you’re looking for a lighter puzzle/optimization game, The Magnificent would be a better experience for that.

There is insert for the small pieces, including the tiles in the box, probably removed by Tom. He complained in his review its kinda small for his fingers 🐻

I very much agree with you on this review. This is a very well designed game and is a very enjoyable puzzle, but each play does feel largely similar.

Still need to beat the solo variant. Thank you for the review.
