My family are huge co-op game fans, and this came out of nowhere and is now our favorite game. The hook of cooperative dice drafting and manipulation, with a sci-fi theme is phenomenal. It's also thinky but light and fun enough with the theme, that it never feels punishing even when you are losing.

Played this for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. One rule issue it looks like you got wrong in your overview: during the threat phase, when you remove the lowest cube, you are supposed to roll it before placing it in the prime area, instead of just placing it with its current value.

Yes, that’s correct, in threat phase, that dice must be rolled before placing in the primed area

It's an 8 for me. I really like it. But I did get the metal dice and that may have boosted up 1 for me.

Great game. Feels like the bad things are more controllable than in most other coops. Game is pretty quick to get to the table as well.

I just ordered Tesseract based on this review and the comments of others. Based on all the positive comments that were made in this video, and even some of the comments on drawbacks, the numerical ratings might be a little low? In any event, Dice Tower reviews, positive or negative, always give me enough information to decide for myself, especially when made in a group discussion like this. Thank you for the review!

I think the game you played may be more challenging than intended because when you remove cubes at the end of each turn, you don't prioritize the lowest elevation before the lowest value. You take the lowest value removeable die first, then the lowest elevation die OF that lowest value. So the lowest removable 1, then the lowest removable 2, etc. Always removing dice at the lowest level would trigger the effects on the base disc much earlier than intended while limiting what dice are removable by players. Try it again with that rule fixed, and it should be a lot easier! As for the early game, the focus is more about efficiently making extra-large sets to reroll for higher level research cards and blasting through as many containments as possible to conserve the time you'll need later, so the game starts as an action-economy puzzle and evolves into a survival puzzle once you are finally starting to reveal the base and suffer potential chain reactions of negative effects that could suddenly end the game if you're caught unprepared, much like Pandemic.

I'm bringing this game out for Christmas. 🎄 With your comments, I think that it'll be a hit with my family. Most of US don't Alpha, too much. If we do, the other players politely ask ME to give them a minute to figure it out on their own. 😁 Cheers, ☕️

9:09 I think it's absolutely fair to say it's the game's fault given it's a common thread for these kinds of alpha-gamer scenarios are really exacerbated by this kind of design. I agree with Chris that you should just let players take their turns, but when you're playing a 4 player game and three players see the "solution" move on another player's turn over and over again, it just makes a worse experience for everyone at the table. It's an issue with many games within the genre, and some games mitigate this issue, and others don't. I don't think it's a disqualifying flaw by any means, but open information puzzle co-op games tend to all have that issue.

Why is the primed area listed 6 to 1, but the containment area is listed 1 to 6 🤪

What is Dice Tower number 1 cooperative game to date? I can't find a video for that.

Tom, Zee, and Mike did a Top 10 Cooperative Games list a bit less than a year ago, so that's a good place to look.

Played it recently. Was ok, but I'd rather play my favorite solo/Co-op, Keep the Heroes Out, or something like the Loop over this one.

It's a way better prog metal band than it is a board game ^^
