Dick Cavett has been nominated for eleven Emmy awards (the most recent in 2012 for the HBO special, Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again), and won three. Spanning five decades, Dick Cavett’s television career has defined excellence in the interview format. He started at ABC in 1968, and also enjoyed success on PBS, USA, and CNBC.
His most recent television successes were the September 2014 PBS special, Dick Cavett’s Watergate, followed April 2015 by Dick Cavett’s Vietnam. He has appeared in movies, tv specials, tv commercials, and several Broadway plays. He starred in an off-Broadway production ofHellman v. McCarthy in 2014 and reprised the role at Theatre 40 in LA February 2015.
Cavett has published four books beginning with Cavett (1974) and Eye on Cavett (1983), co-authored with Christopher Porterfield. His two recent books -- Talk Show: Confrontations, Pointed Commentary, and Off-Screen Secrets (2010) and Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic moments, and Assorted Hijinks(October 2014) are both collections of his online opinion column, written for The New York Times since 2007. Additionally, he has written for The New Yorker, TV Guide, Vanity Fair, and elsewhere.

I saw it, too, when it came out 30 years ago. Not for Brando, though. I loved Matthew Broderick and had had a crush on him since War Games. Brando was wonderful, though. I know he enjoyed sending up his own character because, by all accounts, he never took anything he did seriously.

@@JeffRebornNow I agree with you, good point, and that's what, in my opinion, makes him so enjoyable to watch. Sometimes it is as if he was not acting at all. As for Matthew Broderick, I saw him the first time in Glory, he was outstanding as a Union Army Colonel in command of a regiment made up of black soldiers during the American Civil War. Excellent actor, and excellent film as well.

Okay I don’t understand why everybody makes him sound like a horrible murderer when it was clearly a mistake. It seems to me (and maybe I’m wrong) that maybe because he was in Ireland and not used to driving on the left side of the road that he got confused and went into the wrong lane and collided with the other vehicle. I also heard that he did visit the family and went through a lot of guilt, but ultimately I don’t see why everybody hates him for this. Again maybe I’m wrong and if I’m missing something then please tell me but this is just my take on it and also how much I know about it

If he disappeared one day no one would have noticed. Broderick stayed and said sowwy. Yet what he did was at least twice as bad. Hit and run on bum = 0 deaths Reckless driving = 2 deaths

I don't understand why this is such a huge controversy, I'm not a fan of the guy but he got in a car accident and someone died, so what? It literally happens over a million times a year. Do people think they are so much better than him because of it? And there's always the accusation that alcohol was involved. ZERO evidence of that. He was driving on the wrong side of a country road in Europe because there were no cars as reference. It's extremely common.
