A year later he'd go on to win a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a lead actor for Rosanne. He also jokes about his drinking being blown out of proportion here, but he was in fact in the midst of alcoholism, which he would finally kick in 2007 and stay sober ever since.

He has a wonderful line in that, after having escaped from prison and he's explaining it to someone (I think the Holly Hunter character?), and he says "we felt the institution had nothing more to offer us." It's one of my favourite movie moments, and is pure JG. No-one else could have delivered that line so good. Dammit I need to go watch it again myself now!

I like the first question about, "evil" characters. Goodman plays a fantastic antagonist in 10 Cloverfield Lane, and I don't think that hurt his image.

Was he ever fabulous in that! I really couldn't guess at first what his intentions were. He nailed it.

He also did really well as the antagonists dad in death sentence with kevin bacon. Played a truly twisted character to perfection imo

John Goodman shopping for groceries on Magazine St. a Breaux Mart,I approached him ,asked him for $40,he asked me "Why do you need the money?" I just left the hospital and needed to buy medicine. The grocery store would not cash my check,( had no money in my checking account) John pulled 2 twenty dollar bills from a money clip and gave them to me. I see him occasionally in the Garden District of New Orleans!
