Joe taking the role of a leader will complement the team's frontline since Courage is what pushes forward and Friendship connect people, but in order to balance those two a good amount of responsibility is needed from someone with an objective view.

Exactly, Joe isn't even the leader and people just don't get that. He will never lead the group because he isn't the sort of person willing to do so. It is obvious that Tai is the leader as he is the one that people report to. Just look at the latest ED with Tai in front of them helping the others across the log. Tai doesn't need to say he is the leader of the group as it isn't required for him to do so. By the next episode, Joe will go back as a background character without being noticed.

I think it’s really interesting that Joe is being named a leader. it really helps show some true sense of responsibility in the leader and Joe has had more chances to show that. Joe definitely is not a main character but it helps emphasize that just main characters don’t have to be leaders. I think it’ll be interesting I see how they show character development though because Matt and Tai had a lot of character development because of their roles on the team in the old show

First of all Joe has been called leader in the very early episodes because he is the oldest one this was very clear (Tai said this). But you are forgetting one thing Tai wasn't the leader until the mid of the First series as well, they declared him their true leader later so same will probably happen here.... also if you paid attention Tai is the one who is leading the team in every episode Joe also follows him... in this character specific episode Joe took some steps that is all... and "Not Matt or Tai?" ... Well Matt isn't the leader... he is more like sub-leader ... in the TRI He knew Tai's coming back and he tried to fill his place temporarily...

Just because Joe is the leader of the Digidestins, doesn't mean that the others cannot be leaders in their own way. A true leader doesn't have followers; they have leaders ready to step in when the situation calls for it. Think about the original Rescue Heroes (I grew up in the 90's). That show has a team leader, Billy Blazes, and a team who lead many different missions when the situation called for it. The biggest character development in that show was the rookie, Rocky Canyon, who may have been the secret main character in that show. He went from learning the ropes of how to be a rescue hero, to trying to be a leader and failing, to be a leader of a team and being successful with leading. That show had showed that anyone can be a leader. It depends on the circumstances of the mission, and experience with handling the situation. Now, just because Joe is the leader of the group doesn't mean that the others cannot be leaders. It depends on the goals and the circumstances of the situation that will show who the leader of the situation is. I believe that Mimi had already shown some of her leadership skills. (I haven't seen the reboot of Digimon, yet. But I always wanted to see the others as leaders, not just Tai. Also, my favorite episode of Rescue Heroes has to be when we find out that Billy and Rocky have a lot in common. Why can't more shows showcase leadership like 90's Rescue Heroes?)

I know Joe definitely earned the title of leader, but with how his personality is in the reboot, (as in him not being all about studying but instead trying to keep his s**t together and act brave among his peers) it's hard to say if everyone in the group will accept him as the leader with how much Taichi and Yamato give order and how much of a support role he plays. Seeing how much they've improved on his character though, makes me think he'll ease into this position pretty soon.

I think because Joe never really progress at all before, like in Tri he was still having an existential crisis about fighting like he always did in 01. Whereas it looks like they really want to portray Joe as the adult figure now, whilst still having his own problems to work out.

Tai's Courage maybe good on a battlefield but Courage alone can't lead nor strong arming every battle He's a solider Matt is a loner and never lead yet In the OG anime Good old reliable Joe knew since day one they needed food, shelter and kept that medic kit on point. Never once his personal problems caused riffs in the team while in the digital world till they got back home and due to a 3rd party not due to his own doubts. He was the only one that showed fear and questioned anything good their way unlike the others that kept thinking they were safe finding a hotel or "friendly" digimon and suddenly it's Devimon trying to kill them in their underwear or a Giant ass bird is chasing them naked or in towels. 2020 showed If anything Joe is the tactician that makes sure plans are put through and in battles and I hope he gets more spot light cus now we can see the team doesn't have to kill every mon here

Joe has been called the leader because he is the eldest and Tai shows him great respect due to this (Tai was the one call him like this and big bro etc etc, in the Japanese culture being the eldest is a reason alone to get respect). In the original 01 Tai has been officially declared as leader by the Team in the middle of series after too many episodes even he was a less tactician then the 2020's version. He's a good soldier so what? he can't be a leader? He is the leader because HE MAKES DECISIONS especially the Hard ones for the Team. Just 3 episodes ago He encouraged Izzy to stop that missile as a true leader, against MetalTyrannomon he fought 1-1 while organising the rest to find holy digimon. In the forest episodes told Sora to take other digimon to safety while he's fighting dozens of digimon alone like a true leader. Against big threats like Groundramon, Eyesmon, Orochimon and many others he was the one whom organised the Team's attack and the tactic as general and who was also the finisher. I can make a huge list where he made dozens of decisions and how everyone listened his instructions including Joe... He's the natural leader not everyone has to make this very clear... Some titles are just titles... he may get it as officially or not but the team is going to listen him in the end not Joe... Thanks

I think Joe is learning how to be a leader much like how the other digidestined are learning about their crests. Here let me explain: Izzy is learning that it's not the tablet he uses that holds all the *knowledge*, he is Mimi is learning how to be *sincere* and become worthy of the grandfather's company Tk is learning to never give up and to believe in *hope* Hikari is embracing the *light* Matt is learning how to stop being a lone wolf (lol) and open his heart to others and make *friends* Tai.......... is just *courageous* tai lol Sora............ actually we haven't seen much yet, I'll *love* if maybe they'll elaborate on an episode soon And finally joe declares himself leader by simply being the oldest but that's not what a leader is. A true leader is someone that many people find *reliable* and helpful. All of the digidestined are learning what their Crests are without actually knowing about them at all. So yeah while tai and matt are the ones who charge in head first, joe is the one to come up with strategies and comes prepared. I think he'll make a fine leader when he gets older as well

Not sure why you are making a big deal about it? Because *even in the original 1999 anime,* Joe assumed himself as the "leader" in earlier episodes because he was the *oldest* among the digi-destined, so in his mind he always thought that he should be the one taking care of the others, but in reality, he never was the leader and that role was "indirectly" given to *Taichi* instead being the one leading/guiding the team during most of the story (same case here in the 2020 anime reboot too).

Totally agree. Making a big deal over something that isn't the case. You just have to look at the other comments to see this. There wasn't any need to make a video claiming Joe is the leader when no one in the fandom believes he is the leader as it is just a joke. "Tai" doesn't need to say he is the leader as this is self explanatory. What I'm hoping is that Jou being the leader means more fights will play out like the fight with Jagamon, with Jou being the one to strategize and lead the team to make the best use of everyone's strengths. It's like how a football team can have its star player (Taichi), but that player still needs a coach (Jou) on the outside of the game, taking in the big picture and giving him the support needed to make the best of his ability. Jou '99 easily got the short end of the stick in terms of characterization and how overall role in the group, and that was unfortunately never rectified in 02, tri. or Kizuna. So this is their chance to make Jou matter, and I think they're taking it.

I honestly really like it. To me it feels like a sports anime like Hikyuu or Koroko baskets. The team captains aren’t the amazingly talented or prodigious first years but instead they tend to hold the team together with their reliability. I really like this and think it makes a lot of sense. Joe might not be the strongest or smartest member but his reliability makes him a person that the rest of the group can learn to trust and become a stable foundation for the team.

Joe, I admit I always found to be the weakest member of the team. It's like the original six Power Rangers. They are all strong and capable of leadership and work together well. Jason is the leader and Tommy is second-in-command but all six stand out. Official pecking order or not does not matter when everyone works hand and glove and exceeds beyond the ability any team after them could ever hope to be. The same goes for the original Digidestined.

Now that you mention Ida and Gohan when talking about the leadership role that Joe now in a sense has, I think it's more a case of intellect and being able to be calm under pressure type of deal. However, Taichi and Yamato still getting more screentime than the rest of them so it's nothing new. We'll be seeing some screentime for Sora next episode so we can look forward to that.

I mean, I've re-watched the '99 series in Japanese and that's honestly how Joe was in the original Japanese run, but it's not quite as prevalent as in the reboot. It seems to just be a cultural thing that doesn't really translate super well to western culture, so it's not really a that big of a thing in the American dubs of OG Digimon. Joe always felt the need to accompany the other kids in the real world because he was their senpai and so he felt it was his responsibility.

When I first started watching the reboot I thought the characters would be the same and I knew what to expect with the story and the evolutions but they changed them a bit and I like it they changed the characters to fit in where they are in this timeline but also giveing feeling that of déjà vu and nostalgia but also making it surprising of what happens I really like how they did this with the storyline. because I grew up with the original one things that were different were a big surprise and most of the time I really liked it but also very confused a lot 😅 but by the end everything went well and I kinda hope they go on with this story line because I really liked how they did it my only complaint is the voices for the dub idk they just seemed like og voice but made it sound more kid like and Palmon’s voice I can barely understand what she is saying most of the time it just sounds like a screech very high pitch. Idk maybe I’m just used to the regular voices more if I watched this is no prior knowledge for Digimon I think the voices would work well but the og dub voices are better in my opinion. I would rate this show a 7/10 oh wait I forgot to talk about gatomon’s dub voice well- I hate it 😃 I miss the old one 😢 but I do really think they did a great job with this.

what id liek to point out is they represent even more their cress in this serie that they ever did in any other season or movie, Joe is the responsible one and its logic the role of leader fall into him. if you notice all of them are now very focused on what their cress is.

Well since Toei also does every super sentai show, not every super sentai team has the red ranger as the leader, so maybe that fits here as well. And I really love how the digidestined been developed in this reboot, they're mostly one dimensional in 99 aside from the main ones. Still hoping Taichi and Yamato get less exclusive power ups though, kinda disappointed when Blitzgreymon wasn't a fusion of metalgreymon and atlurkabuterimon since that would make Omegamon Alter S a fusion of 4 instead of 2 so more of the team are being more important.

According to my anime and elements experiments. That the fire element person is the leader because fire element type is courage, very good to lead and firey. Tai is fire type digidestined so that's make sense to be the leader of digidestined. But Joe be leader is half sense and half ridiculous because he's ice and water type digidestined, he's reliable but shy and introversion.

I love how you mention Gohan and Ida as an example. Being the strongest doesn't make you a good leader. Look at Ash in Pokemon, he's the strongest trainer of the group, but he's also a terrible leader

Well, Joe is older and a grade above the group. Traditionally in a family or school setting, the oldest sibling or student is expected to lead over their juniors. It seems fitting for Joe to take on this responsibility. However, I would disagree with the popular opinion on his leadership not meaning anything. As shown in the series, Joe is the most reliable and has great show of guidance. Moreover, he's the more level-headed and cautious member of the group, which are great traits of leadership when giving direction to members of a team. I do again feel that Joe's sense of responsibility towards the other member is due to his age and taking on the traditional custom of providing a good show of example for his younger peers. I felt one of the reasons why Tai and Matt clashed alot in the original series was due to both of them being the same age, which caused both of the boys to adopt a rivalry for leadership. With Joe being the oldest, and instinctively taking on the role of leadership, it tones down the Matt and Tai rivalry. Just my take on this.

If you do a Comparison video, then i would recommend waiting for the show to progress more at least till every Digimon reach the mega Lvl (probably even longer) its allways stupid to compare a show thats still ongoing whit one that has finished ages ago. (like the numerus Goku vs Saitama debates we dont know anything about saitama so ther will be no right answer). And on the Joe topic we just dont know jet they could still make it just a joke or the most importand fact in the new show. Cant wait for more episodes ^^

Honestly joe should’ve been the leader from the gecko Tai was an alright leader though he had his moments and made mistakes but Matt definitely proved he didn’t deserve it and was an angry child and still is in tri. I’m glad joe finally stepped up and isn’t overshadowed by tai and Matt

I don't mind Joe being the leader... 1st he's the oldest... Sometimes the main protagonist doesn't have to be the leader... Masaru/Marcus from savers isn't the leader it's the commander guy... He takes orders from him... Takato isn't also the leader because i think Renamon's tamer is the leader since she has more experience than the main character...

Adventure 01 character versions vs. "Adventure:" reboot character versions? DO IT...or more comedically, DEWIT!! As for Joe as the leader...it could be interesting in future battles: he makes up the attack tactics, directing everyone to do which part he assigns, and the team either wins outright or the enemy is softened up just enough that one of the others gets to reach their top form to finish the job. (Although, I have a bad feeling we won't be seeing Angemon > Holyangemon > Seraphimon until the last couple episodes, with Seraphimon either in the final episode outright - if the final battle takes that long - or the next-to-last episode if the finale is just an epilogue). And as for using Zudomon's hammer, guarantee that won't happen again with Vikemon's maces. 😏😏😈😈

A few errors here. Joe didn’t ask to be called senpai initially Taichi said “You’re older so I guess that makes you our senpai”. Also when Joe first meet Hikari he introduced himself as the leader. Her being young and possibly naive ran with it. Joe has the Ussop complex in his mind he’s leader but everyone knows Taichi runs things

I hated Califula since the begging, she had the worst personality ever! The Prodigy who can transform into Super saiyan just by looking at the transformation... So annoying! We like Goku and Veggeta because they struggle to achieve their power. It would be good to see Califula been annoying but after meeting Goku, get humbled and start her struggling path to greatness! But no, she was a bitch who thought she was superior to everyone... and could get away with it! Awful character! Kale, well she was great the female version of Broly! But then they turn her into a Califula obsessed ass kisser! OH NO!!!! She could have shown every one her true strength and she was not a good fighter because she lost herself in the process, and how she struggles to do that, but no.. she was too busy kissing Califula´s ass and getting weaker by fusing with her! They ruined her even worse than Califula! Yes she gets weaker by fusing because remember she cannot use her "Fury Ki Upgrdade" fused with her idol Califula. Kefla... undermines Kale, just an excuse to elevate Califula, she gets Califula´s personality... In short Kefla SUCKS, she should have never existed in this tournament! Fusions must be build up, not pop up. They could have done so much cool stuff with female characters... But the Cocky "Prodigy" and her "brute ass kisser" are not the right way to do it, they were left as bullies who never learned their lesson.

I think the Senpai thing counts a lot cause in Asian culture, when you're at the age of these kids, even if someone is one year older, they're considered an elder and looked to as a leader. As Joe is the oldest, I think him being the leader is the natural thing to do. Ofc Taichi and Agumon are still the Goku of the anime, but as everyone knows, the last thing Goku is, is a leader.
