I have to agree with your 'toy box' comments. I play Tide of Iron and I realized I played with plastic toy soldiers when I was ten and I am still playing with them in my early 50s in Tide of Iron. Other games I enjoy along with the minis are War of the Ring, High Frontier 4 All, Hannibal and Hamilcar, Twilight Imperium, Sar Wars Rebellion (and many others).

Just to let you know, the new Kickstarter for Company of Heroes is live (& ending in 2 days). There have been some significant improvements to the game. If you haven't already paid, you might want to reconsider. Alternatively, you could pledge for the upgrade kit. It makes me kind of sad that people are selling off their 1st editions to finance the 2nd, without telling buyers about the current opportunity.

@@scottpoole72 Oh this guy didn't sell his copy to finance the 2nd edition, he was moving to smaller house and needed to downsize his collection, hence an awesome score for me. But a few weeks ago I $1 pledged the KS just for the backer kit later, just in case I happened to have funds available at that time, thankfully now I need less funds! :D

Apparently the solo mode for devil pig heroes system is quite clever , whith all the maps , FFi, cathulu , you will have a friend 4 life buddy , ps loot , , i would love to own this game but I'm running late of space m8 🐾🐒🐦

If you are talking about the solo for Heroes of Normandy I can say that the solo is not good. Mostly due to a horrendous rulebook which doesn't cover a lot of specifics with regards to enemy activation. I was really looking forward to the solo, as I really enjoy the game, but the rules destroyed it for me.

I just have the terrain pack #1, but I really like it. I don't know if it makes the game any better, but it definitely ups the toybox factor. Great game!

Thanks for the review. I've got a few questions. How long is a game and how long is a turn? Is it shorter than the 2 players? I'm waiting for the next KS. What level of pledge (generically speaking) would you recommend? Do you think a full on pledge would really make a difference to the "fun" experience?

I think I played the game in about an hour and a half. Didn't really time the turns, but the AI moves pretty quickly. I guess the question of pledge level is a question of the "toy box" factor. How much of that do you want. I had a ton of fun with just the core game, but now I'm glad that I've got the terrain and the solo game.

Company. I’ve only played one Conflict of Heroes title. Company is a bit lighter, but I really had a lot of fun with it.

As much as I liked the miniatures, I could never bring myself to back the game as it seemed to suffer a lot of the same issues that the computer franchise has long suffered from. Chief among these was choosing bland archetypes with only a few really useful abilities over historical commanders like Guderian, Patton, Montgomery, etc. They also once again passed over a lot of the cooler vehicles like the Long Tom, Crusader Mk IV, Karl Gerat, etc. The last strike was the AI being Axis only. Every time a disappointing WWII game drops, it always makes me wish someone would make WWII that actually put a focus on all the kick-*** weapons to come out of the war rather than sticking us with the same old mainstays over and over. World War II had some of the most beautiful weapons designs known to man (comparative some of the stuff we see today) and yet so many get overlooked in games like this.

The worst design of this game is using cardboard tokens instead of the miniatures for solo. No defending it. You could easily implement a system with fog-of-war or hidden units and using the miniatures. Literally every single dungeon crawler does this. You choose a face down dungeon card for each room in the dungeon, flip the card over upon exploring it, and then set up the miniatures found on the card. This solo mode is clearly just tacked on to lure solo players into wasting their money. This is standard design for practically every dungeon crawler or exploration game. It is clear that solo mode is tacked on and was dishonestly marketed. They need a solo mode with all of the miniatures, a more complex AI, some campaigns and in-depth missions, and so on. It just feels so cheap how they designed this compared to the insane quality of the rest of the components.

I communicated with someone at the company and was told I could put miniatures on the disks when the unit were revealed. I don't own the game but hope that is possible.

​ @Dale Robinson I don't see why not - and I had the same worry that Howard expresses, but having played some 5 coop games vs. AI, it comes down to flow: Is it worth slowing the game down, to sticking additional plastic on the map? The toy / table presence enhances the overall experience, but I think it would take too long.. but it's really up to the player. The only disappoint I kept, and share with howard is that the content in the expansion is AXIS only.. and I am told that it works less well agaist british with their static defences (though I dont have the experience to confirm or reject this notion). Of all the things that can be player/community created - this probably wouldnt be the most difficult thing to do, though I would like a more comprehensive (all forces) version of the coop expansion in the 2nd release. Overall, I am very pleased with both the base game and the the expansions. Question: Have any of you played with advanced rules in solo? Do you also for the AI mg and mortar teams to deploy and pack up their weapons at the cost of one CP per action?

For 2nd Edition the AI token stats match the units, all 5 factions are in the 2E Solo / Coop. If you have the faction as mentioned by Daniel you can put the miniatures on top of the AI tokens, or just use the AI tokens, that is up to you. 2nd Edition, since joining BCG, I worked hard to revamp the logic of the AI, It now plays for Victory Points just like a player instead of just being a get to Y Victory Points in X number of rounds like 1E. I know it is much later, sorry for missing this but I can answer any questions you may have.
