Best takeaway idea from this video is that the Ikea table top is hollow. It seems obvious, and common knowledge if you have ever picked one up, but until you see one cut open like this it isn't clear whether what's inside is easily removable and cleanly modifiable. So, thanks for that. These kinds of table tops would make a great base for some other projects. It would fit an LCD monitor nicely (for a MAME table, etc) or possibly a large "shadow box" frame.
@thediycrab26746 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the nice comment! Absolutely, you could also make some storage inside the table ;) the options are many!

Well, if you're ballsy enough, you can make your own cheap table from the ground up. I use Kreg hardware jigs which makes things a lot easier. The sky is the limit when it comes to your designs. Most cheap tables are made of cheap white pine press-board. You could use that or actual pine or some other wood.

Amazing build man! There’s a few things I would do a little differently tho. For example I would use some sort of staple to staple the led strip to the wood in case it became loose since the tape on those aren’t the best quality, second I would put a little bead of caulk around the top of the tape where the glass and the actual table meet just to water proof it in case of spills, dust, etc. And third I would build a little box to house all the wires and boxes on the bottom of the table just so you wouldn’t have to worry about all that falling down overtime. But other than that amazing job man can’t wait to build one soon!

You can always tell an amateur by they way they hold a hammer, half way down the shaft and tap with an up and down motion, the best way is to hold the hammer close to the end and use your wrist to direct the head of the hammer to force the nail in, and another tip is to pre-drill to prevent the wood splitting whether its a nail or screw.

I think you can use pretty much any strip these days, the prices are competitive if you shop around various stores, or even cheaper order from Chinese commerce sites, and they often can cycle through flashing patterns. It doesn't seem like this project needs fancy requirements. But you can get programmable strips if you do want to have more control, and ones with a black background would be a bonus.
