Hi Orly, I showed my ‘not so crafty’ friend your channel and she was so inspired!!!! Even someone who does not DIY or creative things can get inspired to do your DIYs. Your sheer floral embroidery tutorial was totally her thing and she is planning on trying it!!

The curtains turned out lovely. I used clips on some vintage curtains a relative gave me and I was sold. It was so quick and easy to do.

I didn’t think about the french seam for curtains, will definitely consider it now! As it is super expensive, we found a hack for our living room (rented apt) : we bought 2 linnen, very thin throws at Zara home. That way the panels are hemmed all around, we just clipped them like you did.

Orly, it’s best to measure where you want your curtain rod from the ceiling (not the window sill), because sometimes there are very small imperfections in the structure of the house (especially in California where there are earthquakes all the time)-it’s easy to see the difference in incline between the rod/curtain and the ceiling when they are not parallel with each other

Cool project! But here's a DRILLING TIP from a Newyorker... You can't just go drill and hang something on a wall, girls; especially when you are hanging something HEAVY (a large picture, a mirror, etc.). Houses have better walls than apartments - generally speaking - however, if you have walls made of sheetrock (a construction material like super-tough cardboard -if you hear your neighbors through the walls...Yep! it's sheetrock). You drill the holes but you need to use "anchors" (from the hardware store - made of plastic & come in different sizes) the exact size of your screws. That's what the pros use. IF YOU DON'T... the screws will not withstand the weight of your curtains. And..."""Everything will fall down! Your fun project will turn into a nightmare."""

You could make some clever "hold-backs" out of scraps of rhinestone trim, bits of leftover fabric, etc., to keep the curtains stay neatly at the sides of the window opening.

@roylenekornovich32674 жыл бұрын
Actually, you put the brackets exactly where they should be. Adding a ring or two (or more) beyond the bracket to visually extend the windows width is the done just the way you did it. 👍🏻👏🏼🙌🏼

Orly you have a beautiful house
@purplepixie2745 жыл бұрын
OK, you need to hem the fabric or it will fray when washed. Remember to get more material than your measurements to allow for this. IKEA sell ready hemmed panels. Your brackets will always need to be a good distance outside the end of the window. You are fortunate that your windows are massive and material very thin so you aren't compromising your light. If your curtains were thick they wouldn't open fully without this. I couldn't function with bare windows, especially having people look in from the street at night, I hate it. Not good for security of your home or family either. It's worth checking view from outside again with lights on, at night; very thin curtains can become transparent in this way. Lastly, sometimes it's better to have thicker material even if you have double glazing. The amount of warmth gained when we shut our heavy curtains in winter is crazy. Saves on energy bills too x

Maybe thinner curtains in summer and thicker in winter? ...🤔

You should always allow for the extra on the side of the window, it is called "stack back". When you were putting in your brackets I realized you did not allow for stack back.

I was hoping she would show us a shot from the outside looking in through the curtains at night when lights are on inside so we can see how much privacy these actually give. Maybe that material wasn't as transparent as it appeared.
