The wiring inside the garage does not need to be in a conduit?

I always feel for a professional it's just another job. It's the same with working on your car, a garage has the official know-how of mechanics etc, but your car is just another one in a sea of hundreds worked on every day. Doing things yourself gives you a natural drive to want the best looking finish possible.

The electrician that originally installed our light, wired it directly in to the light itself, so was always a bit difficult to get the light replaced each time. So I added a junction box. I come here to learn how to do it and I found this incredibly helpful. You are a born teacher. Thank you so much for posting this.

Hi just wondering (obviously not an electrician), why couldn't you just feed the flex though the wall to a switch, why do you need a junction box?

I don't see how that made it hard to change the light and realistically how often will you be changing the light?

@@DeanSmith3935 Those types of light come with a like 6 inch bit of flex usually. So you're going to need a junction box. There's another kind where you wire straight into the back of the light. (Also not an electrician lol.)

I like how you explain: clearly and to the point in addition to the charming English accent😊I may do this project for my back garden in future. This weekend though I have to install a dog flap on my back uPVC door. I guess my main struggle will be the adjustment of the door panel thickness to the larger depth of the dog flap.

The issue about using a sealant on the rear transit cable hole is exactly the concern I had after watching the video. The way it was left had seriously compromised the IP rating of the JB. An alternative would have been to use one of the side ports with a gland to pass the power supply cable through.

11:01 shows you have a crack in the back box that runs from the knock-out at the top to the mounting screw hole nearest it. It's probably a cheapie one. The back box is toast and should be changed. Having said that, it'll probably stay like that for years as the wiring is solidly clipped all around it and 'she be right' as they say down under. Nice vid though.
