The SR-71 leaked because the panels used on the body were meant to expand during flight thus sealing the tank. When it was on the ground and cooled there were gaps between panels which leaked. The plane had to be re-fueled mid air shortly after take off since it leaked so much.

Clearing up some misconceptions (not his fault!) 1. It's not a rumor, after a good flight, you could actually cook something on the plane 2. The fuel doesn't leak, most of the time, when plane flies at high speeds, it's gets so not that the titanium that the plane is built out of expands. So they had to account for this when they built the plane, so they put tiny gaps in the plane. So, ironically, the plane gets better fuel efficiency...the faster it flies....its unfair

Mach is not Miles Per Second, it is a the ratio flow velocity past a local spped of sound ,or sound barrier. For instance you said 2,193. m/h would convert to Mach 3.323 36.553 mi/min. Definatly do skme research so you don't misinform the public. And what makes it special isnt just the speed its the faxt its a TurboJet that operates similar to a RamJet. Its the only planes the flew more effecitant with afterburners engaged, and for the "Navigator" dude behind the pilot in that and the U2 where referenced as R.S.O. Reconnaissance Systems Officer and they had no control over the plane if the pilot screwed up unless the plane was on autopilot. Just go to the internet and do some real digging and youll find a lot more. Like how 6 are not decomissioned they are NASA planes for high speed high altitude data gathers

The X-15 was a rocket propelled aircraft. Yes it was way faster than the SR-71. The SR-71 was a air breathing engine for sustained flight at hight altitude and speed. That makes the SR-71 the fastest manned, air breathing, sustained flight in the world at the time. Can't say if there is a faster plane yet cause we haven't been informed yet. The X-15 was the fastest manned flight but that plane was a rocket powered test bed. It only had limited range from it's liquid rocket fuel for maybe 120-200 seconds of burn then it becomes a glider. The fastest a manned aircraft has traveled is on the space shuttle at nearly 20,000 MPH. Classification matters when comparing different things.
