@ 14:30 apart from [the engine self destructing, the rear suspension failing, the engine leaking oil] mechanically it's been fine! For anyone considering this vehicle, never - ever - buy a land rover product outside of a manufacturer's warranty. JLR recently admitted poor build quality is costing them a lot in lost sales. Great design, but I wouldn't even consider one, let alone a used one.
@thedoctorsgarage2 жыл бұрын
the extended warranty does cover a lot though to be fair

@@dartanianrubanne3394 to be honest, I don't really rate the xc90 either, awful engines, dreadfully dull, horrible central screen in dash that has to control everything- albeit reasonably well made. I think 2015 onwards Q7 is a better bet. But it isn't an off roader of course- that is one thing you can't take away from LR - it's just such a shame they're screwed together poorly from cheap components.

Amazes me how JLR simply appear to be unable to improve it quality/reliability issues for many years - different Managers, quality systems, factories, etc, etc. They still can’t solve their issues

I've had a 2005 Disco 3 for many years - it gets very little use these days, mainly as a tow truck, but I still love driving it - and I laughed out loud at the comments about electronics. Exactly like mine - especially the cruise control: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, completely arbitrarily. I mainly drive a BMW X3 and when it comes to its replacement the quality of the Land Rover electronics is likely to be a deal breaker - otherwise I'd get a Disco 5 like a shot.

Had three issues that were resolved under warranty on my discovery 5 HSE 2017 3.0.First one is the real tailgate was rubbing on the offside bumper and the second is that i couldn't check the oil level so it went into the dealer again and it was diagnosed that the sender and wiring loom in the sump had failed and had to be replaced. the infotainment system crashed when the dealer was doing some updates so landcover had to change the whole system.

I just purchased 2020 a few months ago here in the US. Couldn’t find a 2021 anywhere due to production shortages because of Covid and actually had a difficult time finding the 2020. I absolutely love it. I was concerned because I’ve always driven a large suv, but the way this car handles and the AWD feature as well as how it looks completely outweighs that concern for me. BTW, I love the uniqueness of the license plate placement in the tailgate. Absolutely love this car so far!!!! Great video.

Superb video review and I agree with you a truly superb 4x4. I own the discovery HSE 2019, and it’s also the 2 litre version. I never tested the 3 litre as when I tested this 2 litre I was blown away by its comfort and plenty of power, in fact I was supremely impressed by its performance for such a big car! I also love the look too. I’ve only had a slight problem with the drivers side window which would not work for a couple of hours. But solved itself. The space is huge I get my mountain bike in the back with the seats down, and can go anywhere I want in super luxury! I’ve now done 6,600 miles and it’s been super. It’s great value and really takes some beating! I’m thinking about the new 2021 version as it has updated the entertainment system but I’m also considering the Range Rover SVA, for more prestige and power.

2 liter engines fail too? 3 liter engines snap cranks btw. Started from Discovery 3 and they still snap in D5. This is the most negative thing about Discoverys . Yes some LR lackey says it's about 2% failure rate but it seems to be bulsh**. It's pretty much lottery. No regular oil changes will prevent this. It's failure in design (combined with the weight of the vehicle). And even if you replace the engine, it still may fail. The flaw is not fixed. I have Disco4 (with replaced engine). It's brilliant car until it works. But Land Rover has to fix the quality issues. New Defenders are failing left and right too. It hurts the brand severely. Land Rover has pretty bad reliability reputation.

A very helpful video, thank you. You mentioned about it being a tricky car, re manoeuvrability and parking, would you know how it compares to a current model RR Sport? I'm changing mine latter this year, and don't really want something that's noticeably more cumbersome, especially as I don't really need the full breadth of the Disco's practicality anymore. But I do still like the look of it.
@thedoctorsgarage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shep thanks for the comment- In all honesty I don't think it's that much worse than a RR sport- the boot is way bigger so it's taller at the rear but actually driving it I don't think you'll notice a negative difference

@@thedoctorsgarage Thank you for getting back to me. I suspect your probably right. I compared them on LR's wed site, they're the same width, the disco is bit longer, and of course taller. what was surprising, the Disco is slightly faster 0-60 in the D300 flavour, even though its heavier! I wont be complaining if I get one, but would of thought the "Sport" would of been a fair bit faster, for obvious reasons?

I recently had a very unpleasant episode with my Disco 5. The steering rack failed whilst cornering causing me to have an RTA. I claimed on my insurance for body and mechanical repair. 14 weeks in to repair and I am still awaiting return. Very long parts wait from LR (steering rack, suspension arms and subframe). Can anyone advise if I have a legitimate claim against LR as I have excess to pay on my insurance claim and the car is now devalued as it has been in an accident. 😂😂 to be fair that’s quite a good description

To be fair, that's a bang-on description. Until you mentioned it i'd been thinking the same thing subliminally. Unfortunately, my mind's eye will never be able to unsee the Saab 95 every time I see the Disco 5 now. Thankfully, I've got my 60000 mile 2015 Disco 4 HSE Lux to mitigate the psychological harm that your observation has caused me lolzzz.

I think there gonna be less discovery selling because of the new defender.

Maybe..discovery still a great car and arguable you get more for your money...

The Discovery can go were the Defender can go anyway.

I usually watch such reviews because I love these cars but once I hear the problems I always go back to the boring ones
