If you stand outside the car and put your arm in the drivers side and push the screen near the headliner, you WILL see it move. I work for a windscreen company and we replace around 5 a week in the two JLR dealer we do work for. The glass is coming away from the bond along the top edge.

To me as an outsider it’s just incredible how the Brits put up with such appalling poorly made cars from Land Rover and yet continue to support them. Engine failure, suspension issues, windscreen issues after just 47000 miles is completely unacceptable.

Hi, i too had a 2017 2.0 discovery 5 HSE from new, initially i loved it. The first item was the screen at about 8 months old. LR had it in the garage for 3 months, the headlining was full of water and it had gone down to the centre instrument column. So, everything was replaced. Then the tailgate started to only work part way and again it went into the garage for ages whilst they replaced part of the wiring loom. Next was the pneumatic suspension pump failed. Again in for a couple of weeks. After a year the windscreen started leaking again. It was replaced again after some weeks. All was good for a while. Only odd niggles like door handle trims falling off. On. The first service they reported an oil leak which was done under warranty again. I still loved the car as im disabled and it was a nice comfortable car with loads of room for my mobility scooter. However, the love started to dwindle as small things went wrong repeatedly . At 32000 miles i had gone out for lunch with my wife and as we left the restaurant, the car struggled a bit to start and this was strange as it always started first go. We had gone about 3 miles and it suddenly gave the most horrendous bag of spanners noise. We were just outside a garage and i turned in with everyone coming out to see what had been making the terrible noise. As i drove in, the engine stopped. I had had a mini service a few days before and i thought hell, they’ve not put any oil in. A mechanic also came out and said it sounds like the bottom end of the engine had gone. He checked the oil and it was still full. We called the AA who transported the car back to my main dealer, he told me they had loads of LR cars like this. I told the main dealer the story that it went suddenly with no warning or previous indications. Initially someone inspected it and came up with the conclusion that it must have known about it as there was new oil around the top of the engine so i must have been topping it up and there’s always a long warning before an engine gives out. The guy didn’t check that it had had an oil change only a week before in its service and that seemed to shut the guy up. After i went on line, i found loads of these engines going exactly like mine, mostly all cylinder 1 faulty. All failing suddenly with no warning or previous notice or indications. It was in the garage for 5 months and they replaced the engine. Next the winter came and the car wasn’t getting warm. It went in again after a couple of evaluation tests and it had a new water pump. Strange thing is that if the pump was failing wouldn’t the car run hot???. Anyway, they took weeks again to get a water pump. I was told i could pick it up in the next afternoon. Before this, i had a call from the garage to say that the “technician” working on the pump has broken the windscreen. The new windscreen took 9 weeks to fit. By this time my love of the car had turned into a dread of what’s going next. Well, the next thing was the car was going into limp mode. As the initial warranty had now expired , i had fortunately taken an extended dealership warranty out on it. Thinking i was covered, i booked the car in for a diagnostics check when i was told that if they didn’t find a problem, the diagnostics would be around £100. I paid the money after they didn’t find a problem and the car went into limp mode again on. The way home. It took several attempts from the garage before i was told that it might be the turbo but if it wasn’t, i would be charged for stripping everything off to get to the turbo. Fortunately, they said yes they think it’s a turbo and they have ordered one. This took several weeks and it was ages before a loan car was made available. The turbo arrived and all went well. The next warranty period was coming up so i decided that it was time to go. I had loved that car and when it was working it was perfect for my needs but by now i had no confidence that it would get me home any more and I wasn’t prepared to buy another warranty for the car. In 4 1/2 years it had spent over 18 months in the main dealership. Nobody should consider buying one of these without a foolproof warranty. It’s a brilliant car but I couldn’t afford to buy another. Ive now gone to a new BMW X5 and now i have faith in a car again.

I encountered the same issue and Land Rover not only replaced the window rubber surround but they also fitted a brand new windscreen, which I was very grateful for as it was getting a bit sand blasted. They also acknowledged that the battery wasn't looking healthy (car was three years old) so they replaced that as well, even though I never requested it. Issues suck but it was nice to be treated the way I was treated and consequently I've ordered a new one.

Had exactly the same problem with windshield at 4 years, also extended warranty- Dealership was absolutely no help and had to pay the full replacement cost around £840 . Like you I was not prepared to let it go and after days scrolling Internet found a Land Rover USA site which basically recalled for this problem ‘ LR Technical Note’ which actually included my Disco 5 VIN number in the range to be rectified. Wrote to LR Customer Service giving details etc and my experience with dealership and they agreed full refund ( very generously! ) - good luck, just don’t take the dealership advice at face value, as on numerous occasions since I had the vehicle from new, every issue seems to be a battle with them.

Hi Doc, I bought my 1st Defender 90 brand new in 2014, as we left the main dealer excitedly to drive home it started raining heavily, I got on the A12 in Essex near to where I used to live and the water started p*ssing in through the drivers side rear window. I long story short, Land Rover had my Defender more in the 3 years I owned it than I did, and that is NOT an exaggeration, they even took the whole side of the car off, de bonded it, rebonded it and refitted it…..it still leaked like a sieve. I feel you pain brother!!!! Kind regards Tony

Found a single thread on a forum about the roof body seam under the capping trim on the roof, couldn't see anything visible but a tiny bit of mastic to the factory gunk they put of panel seams, and hey presto, it works no more water coming from the top of the roof.

I am having issues with our Discovery. Out of warranty of course. The windshield began leaking... but one place said it wasn't the windshield, so then we had the sunroof looked at and they said it wasn't the sunroof. Then after more weeks of leaking when raining I took it to another place to have them inspect the windshield because I was certain it was something to do with the windshiled and sealant... landrover by the way wouldn't touch it because they don't work on windshields.. so at this new garage and it took their techs one minute to tell me they had found this issue. They immediately showed me that the windshield could be pushed out from inside the car at the top. So they had to put in a new windshield. Anyway, luckily they were able to take out the currently windshield and the reseal it for me. No more leaking. But now my touchscreen in the car has stopped working.. just black. I am sure it is from water damage. But we can't find any "roadmaps" to the electrical systems of the car to help determine what might be damaged. I don't want to have to go to landrover as they will charge an astronomical amount to look into this. Any advice?

Hi. We have had the same issue with our windscreen. In the end we took it to national windscreens who removed the screen and rebonded it. The inside of the car was really wet and we did have concerns about water damaging electrics. The only issue is that the windscreen houses other electronic/ camera for AEB. that system had to be recalibrated. So in total 120 + vat for the rebond and 180 + vat for recalibration….. now we have a warning light for the AEB NOT WORKING😡😡😡 And now the damn car won’t start…. A local garage ( we don’t have a land rover garage on the Isle of Wight) has checked the battery ( only 11 months old) and the alternator and they have put it on the diagnostic machine and can find nothing wrong… so the car is now stuck at the garage, won’t start and no one can help…. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS COULD BE? I’m at my wits end with this heap of trash….

Hi My Discovery 2017 which I bought new and had a leaking windscreen, I had the car for a week and had total power loss. It’s was raining at the time, Landrover breakdown engineer said there was a problem in the fuse box in the passenger footwell, the car was dragged on to to low loader and taken to the dealer for a week and they couldn’t find the problem. A year later I parked the car on a neighbours drive which was a slight incline and went on holiday for a week on our return the car was flooded the fuse box was dripping with water and the centre consul and cup holders was full of water and the carpets were saturated. The car was dried out new carpets fitted and they refitted the windscreen, l asked Landrover for an extended warranty but they refused. The car was probably leaking water in the ever since a bought it. Just out of the warranty when the car was just over 3 years old the battery failed, which I’m sure water dripping in to the electrics didn’t help. Then the windscreen failed a second time the dealer and could only fit me in for the repair in two weeks time. They wanted me to pay for the repair and then try to get Landrover to pay me back, I wasn’t willing to wait so sorted it my self. Also I had total cooling fluid loss which was caused by a damaged sharp bracket in the engine bay rubbing on a pipe. Which were its was positioned could have only happened when the car was being built. This is the third time the car been taken on a low loader back to the dealer. I sent emails with videos of water dripping from the windscreen, photos of the damaged bracket and Landrover still wouldn’t extend my warranty. My past 4 cars have been Landrover’s, 3 have been brand new but that didn’t make any difference. I felt Landrover treated me terribly. Once the car was 4 years old I was very concerned that a major fault would occur which would cost me thousands to repair, so I sold it and now I have a Mercedes’ I would get rid of your Discovery before it cost you a fortune to repair, I loved the Discovery but the build quality doesn’t match the price. Hi, I think I messaged you before as I had a 2.0L 2018 D5, the engine failed after 21k and got two new turbos on warranty. Amongst other issues was DEF sensor, a broken rear passenger speaker and the final straw for me was exactly what you have experienced... After heavy rainfall I got in the car and the drinks holder was full of water.. fast forward a week I looked under the driver mat and it was soaked. Water was literally coming in and dripping on me if I drove through a puddle! THEN.. the hazard lights starting to come on intermittently and couldn't be switched off.. the was the start of the end for me and the beloved D5. To stop the battery draining AA assist advised me to disconnect the battery when the car wasn't in use! In the meantime I had to wait 2 weeks for the official dealer to confirm that LR would pay for all the work (windscreen replacement, new carpets and dash insulation). The dealer also said they couldn't find any error codes or issues with electronics which was obviously not true! I did have an extended warranty, but a claim was not needed. However, although the work was done, I have since offloaded the car back to Peter Vardy as I have no way of knowing what issues and gremlins the water ingress will have caused (the water is probably still in the car rotting the chassis and damaging electric terminals?!). I wanted long term reliable ownership and unfortunately the Discovery cannot offer me this.. the dealer did a good p/x price due to my issues. They also gave me free servicing & money off a new Defender. I am now 5 months away from getting a 3L 110 SE and fingers crossed no issues in that

Please don’t leave this leaking windscreen for long. We have 2019 disco 5 HSE. During the later part of lockdown we noticed the passenger window started misting up and and then the footwell was wet on the passenger side (front). Booked into landrover and they took the car and the leaking windscreen had somehow corroded the full/main wiring harness (I apologise if I haven’t got the name correct) this was a full interior out and required a back order as the part is assigned to the chassis of only new cars. We didn’t see the car for 4 months. Thankfully under warranty they covered all costs and used landrover assist to keep us mobile. We where given a disco 5 the same as yours for 2 months (hse luxury) and a RRS for the other 2 months. Please get this looked at straight away.

I had a 2003 TD5 SE7 in Australia from new. Whilst many problems existed over time, more specifically, yes the windscreen leaked. It leaked from new, whilst under warranty, through the top RHS. Land Rover tried to seal it with silicon from the inside and behind the roof liner. After years of it continuing to leak I needed a windscreen replacement to repair a large stone chip. I discovered, the storm water was leaking through a joint in the metal between the roof and A pillar where the windscreen is sealed. I finally fixed the problem by repairing the metal folded joint and resealing (black adhesive sealant) in a new windscreen. After 30 years of owing land rovers, I now own Isuzu’s (NPR truck and Dmax) for better reliability and lower operating costs!

Hi Doctor, sorry to hear of the many issues you have had with your Discovery, I don't own one, so can't give any advice or experience. I would say that they are all serious issues, on a vehicle that is relatively new, that is low mileage, I would be very disappointed if they weren't all fixed by a recall or covered by a £900 a year warranty!! As for the water leaking down the inside of the windscreen - This is a 4 year old, luxury off road vehicle, who on earth would consider this to be acceptable, especially when you have stated this is a common fault... I hope you are able to get these issues sorted quickly with no extra expense to yourself👍👍

From what I've read about other manufacturers having similar problems the cause can be blocked drain holes in the sun roof, if no sun roof is fitted try running some 'Creeping Jack' sealant or similar around the top of the windshield seal, failing that hope for a cracked windscreen then you can claim off your insurance for a new one at low cost.

Had a 3 litre HSE Lux. Great car but land rover would not honour warranty claims in the first three years. All wheels were badly tarnished but more worryingly selecting drive on the gear knob sometimes defaulted to Sport so you would drive away with a cold engine with the gearbox stuck in first! LR said can’t replicate it so no action taken. Knowing gearbox problems can be expensive I changed to Lexus 450h. At 77 I don’t want to be in a lay-by waiting rescue. D5 is a great car - wish it was made by Lexus.

I had the same problem with my D5 HSE Lux Si6 at 4yrs old. First of all, best thing is to use LR Assistance as they get it in straight away and provide a hire car. LR said the same thing about water ingress not being covered by warranty and talked about good will gestures. I made it very clear that I had no intention to pay for what is clearly a well documented manufacturing defect. After 2 weeks of discussions, LR UK covered all of the costs to replace at over £1k. Overall, my D5 has spent about 20% of it's life at the dealership and so extending the warranty is an absolute must!

It has prevented me from starting the car or even getting the electronic dash/display to work, so the car is totally disabled. I have so far fetched 8 pints of water out using dehumidifiers 24/7. I too have taped all the windscreen but I fear I have not found the exact area, as the glove box, which I had unclipped for access to the inner fuse box, dumped at least 1/2 pint of water when I went to shut it up after more rain and having already sealed the windscreen. I have the car booked into Land Rover's main dealer at Stafford, we will see what they have to say, I suspect I will be handing this car back to the dealer (within 6 months of purchase) as life postfix could well be troubled .... electrics and water don't go hand in hand as we all know.

I had to involveTrading Standards to get my Land Rover dealership in Leicestershire to accept they needed to deal with the issues of fuel leakage onto the road wheels on my 2 year old discovery. They tried to make out it was a gesture of good will until Trading Standards pointed out it was actually a legal requirement they sorted it out.

I had the leaking windscreen on my my19 D5. LR assist came out and taped the screen up. They sent a windscreen fitter out to refit the screen. He showed me gaps around the screen where the sealant was missing. It's very much a manufacturer defect which LR should rectify. I got rid of my D5 and gone back to a my16 D4. M

Have a disco 5 first edition. 2017. Windscreen leaked in 2020. Cost £4500 to repair as water flooded the electronics under the seat. The DAB radio and amplifier needed replacing. Not in warranty. Still have the car as it’s a petrol 3.0 and it only has 30k miles on it. I love the car but it’s super painful when something goes wrong.

Sorry ment to mention when I had my windscreen repaired I was shown were the sealant had failed along the top off the screen. It hadn’t been primed correctly. They cut the screen out along the sides and bottom but the top just peeled off. I had videos which I’ve deleted now, I would have been a Landrover customer for life but. I have had water ingress issues in the past but on different vehicles, and often it was down to the Sunroof drain which runs down the inside of the A-Pillar become blocked with debris. This can usually be fixed with forcing high pressure air down the channel and clearing it. I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but it might be worth a try.
@shaunbava18012 жыл бұрын
That issue is EXTREMELY common in discovery 3/LR3's. Mine had a small pool in the passenger footwell. I was thinking it was the tubes but I checked with the horoscope and the lines were fine blew out the drains with compressed air and no more leak.

Discovery 5 2017, had to took off the windscreen. and put it back with a new glue because of leaking. I thought it's some modern technology by the land rover to allow you feeling what is the weather outside, if it's raining - then you can see it in the cabin

Sorry, seemingly, ultraviolet light degrades the adhesive, so the replacement screen has a wider tinted area to keep the light out. Don't just get it re-sealed Dougie from Edinburgh

Not only are the cars not fit for purpose but neither is the company. Had a new screen fitted to my Wolf this week. In the workshop was a D5 for a screen replacement (£600). The fitters said they’ve done dozens & fit them for toffee. One was brand new parked outside in a compound and had three inches of water inside. The entire interior had to be removed. Utter garbage.

Worth a check that the drain holes on your sunroof are clear. Must admit, this related back to 1995 Peugeot 306, but I vowed never to buy a car again with an openable sunroof. If you need a windshield reseal, you can check if you have a leak by getting air compressor and blowing air around the seal. Listen inside for whistling noise (again my experience relates to a replacement window that was incorrectly sealed). This should guide you to the failed seal location. The only remedy is window removal and reseal. Most window companies will be able to remove for you and refit for you, but they will not guarantee that they will not break the window. Good luck. Chin up, you will get there.

I had a Range Rover sport Sdv6 HSE from new in 2015…..after 5 years, 55k miles and a number of electrical and engine faults, I sold it as the extended warranty ran out…..I was too nervous to risk it any longer so bought a new Mercedes 350 GLE de hybrid and after nearly 12 months not a single fault! I now get nearly 50 mpg and 50 ish miles on a full charge…..I sleep better these days….

I Bought a brand new discovery sport 7 seater September 2020 and it completely broken down, luckily of the motorway 1 week after purchase. No one could help me push this vehicle of the road, not even AA or even jump start it as it’s a hybrid. It took numerous road users to push this vehicle of the road safety. Only the Land Rover mechanic can assist if it breaks down not AA. It’s been recalled back more times than I can even recall. The gear box has been replaced, electrical fire 🔥 recall, the petrol tank has been replaced and numerous computer issues recall. I have been in more replacement vehicles than my own purchased vehicle. I have never enjoyed driving it as a warning ⚠️ sign always flashes up. It’s been in the garage for the last 2 months since Febuary 2022 and I was given 100% re-assurance all service was done and it’s safe to drive. Within 12 hours, it’s flashing service required. The lookers Land Rover and the manufactures and dealership are a real nightmare to work with. It’s a really sad situation be in after purchasing this vehicle brand new for £41,968.80 in September 2020. Currently it’s being referred to the Ombudsman.

I had a leaking windscreen on my D4 took it to a windscreen specialist and they removed the glass without breaking it and told me the sealant they used in the factory was crap. They cleaned it all up and redid the sealant and fitted it back in. They did a fantastic job and it never leaked again. not saying it the same with the D5, just my experience.

Great video! I have the same issue occur 3 times on my D5. The official service guide says that the windscreen adhesive needs to be replaced when a car comes in with this issue. I have also heard that you can park with the nose of the car pointed up hill to help stop the leaking. Hope this helps if Landrover takes too long.

There is an old joke that a customer told his LR dealer he had no leaks on his LR , any way they fixed it on the next service ! We have run Discoveries and a Defender for many years . Same problem with my 2017 Disco, purchased in UK, which I exported to Kenya, where I now live. There is a class action in USA, on this known defect. My Land Rover dealer in Nairobi, Inchcape, tried to fix the issue, by resealing the joints, which I paid for, but this did not resolve the issue. Rain water pours into the drivers area, into the coffee cup area, flooring and threatens the electronics. The dealers answer to resolving the issue is that the customer must buy a new windscreen. JLR claim according to their dealer Inchcape, the issue derives from sunlight breaking down the rubber seals. There is of course nothing wrong with the windscreen, and, if I were to buy a new windscreen, I have no guarantee that the windscreen or rubber linings have been redesigned. My Disco can fjord deep streams and navigate off road on safaris, but cannot handle a simple shower. Shame on you Jaguar Land Rover! I too have had to resort to sticking gorilla tape over the roof and windscreen joints, which ultimately lifts off as I drive, fluttering like a kite around my luxury Land Rover Discovery.

I had my 2017 discover HSE for just about a month when I bought it last March 2021. 40k miles on the clock. Started small and it then got way worse in Colorado snow and rain. They quickly ordered me a windscreen asap took about 3 weeks to come in but I took it in and they gave me a temporary solution. The windscreen was covered under a “manufacturing recall” and completely covered by Land Rover. I’ve had my 2017 for a year starting March 1 of last year and in 1 year I’ve put 25k miles on it just had my 65k service. Oil changes and that’s pretty much it so far. I’ve been fortunate. I have the SCV6.
