@@alexisfights5773 If someone cuts away the flying feathers of birds like Cockatoos, they have no clue what kind of animal they have and should reconsider having a cockatoo. For centuries humans used messenger pigeons to communicate over long distances. Despite their freedom to travel, birds have a strong sense of "home". Oldest Cockatoo on record was a Major Mitchel's (also known as a Leadbeater) Cockatoo named Cookie that lived at the Brooklyn Zoo to at least the age of 83 - that's how long he lived at the Zoo, it's possible he was even older. At 1st he would just talk to him & pet him but never wanted to hold him. Fast forward a year later those 2 are best buddies. Rio picked him and those two have a very strong bond. Rio says several phrases, whistles so many tunes & makes certain noises like a laugh, calling the birds, woofs as in a dog woof & many more! Now we have 3 and we adore each one. Birds are so such great wonderful pets. ❤️🦜

I loved the fact that he didn't cage Beau. People cage birds because they think that if the birds are free then they will fly away and will never come back again. But the truth is that, if you love someone and if that creature loves you, then he/she will come back to you, no matter what. You don't need a cage, you just need to have a kind, compassionate and loving heart.

Chand... Flying away is a real concern as well as safety. If they fly away they will get lost and the chance of getting them coming back is slim asd they won't be able to identify your house from up above. As well they dont know how to survive in the wild and therefore exposed to predators and other elements that can be a threat to them. My love bird has a cage and loves being in it. It's her space and safe haven. When I'm at work she's in her cage as otherwise she will chew cords and other things that are a risk to her. When I come home the cage door is opened and she comes out if she wants to. Being a responsible parent to your pets sometimes involves making decisions that others do not agree with. Don't judge but inform yourself on why things are the way they are. Those that abuse their birds however, should be charged as that is not okay.

Parrots are highly intelligent sensitive animals. When they get stressed, they suffer. Neurotic birds become that way when owners are abusive. The birds become aggressive, depressed, which is what happens when they pluck their own feathers. This is a love story that warms my heart. 😍🧡

I know someone who adopted this type of bird from a shelter and he was in terrible shape he’s slowly recovering but the first few months after I found out she had him I was judging her for his condition, then she explained why he was like that and how she hadn’t had him for vary long . 2 years I think and she told me they are like a 2 -3 year old child you wouldn’t expect a child to recover from extreme trauma in only 2 years, it really hit me then why so many rescue birds I saw were still pulling feathers even though they were in a good home it takes time for them to mentally heal. I think this bird probably had a good home that realized they couldn’t give him what he needed before he was traumatized otherwise he wouldn’t have bond with his person so quickly.

My Sister had a Cockatoo and he was just in love with me. I lived across the street from her and the second he would see me outside he would start screaming out the window. She would call me and ask to come over to say hello because he wouldn't stop yelling. When I would walk in he would make his way and open his door and tell me to " Come here", he would then climb on my arm and start asking " How are you?" he would say things like... "Whatcha do'in....Do you love milk( His name was Milk), he would tell me he loved me, whistle at me, just the most loving bird ever. well, I had to move and he became depressed, he began rocking while looking out the window so she had to move his spot. He would call my name over and over so she would replay a voice recording I left her on her voicemail so he could hear me calling his name. Love seeing videos of people with birds! It’s a lifelong commitment. A lot of people don’t understand how long these birds live for. If in a healthy environment they can live 60 years no problem. It’s a big commitment due not only to the length of time but the amount of social interaction that the birds require. In the wild the live in fairly large, communal gatherings. They have social interactions much the same as humans. My grandfather had African grey until time he died. He spent a lot of the last 2 years of his life finding a suitable home for Shakespeare… the parrot.

Parrots are such special birds. A lot of people don’t realize how much care and attention they require just to physically function. It very much takes a relationship like this one for a bird like a macaw or a cockatoo to live a long and healthy life. You essentially are taking up the role of a lifelong companion that this bird would form in the wild. They don’t do well with the long separation that usually happens because of work. They take far more effort to keep her happy and healthy than a dog or cat. Thus, it really lifts my heart when I see things like this. This is a relationship I know it’s going to continue to be happy and healthy for as long as both live. However, many birds don’t get to have this sort of special relationship, and suffer negative health repercussions despite all the physical needs that are met. I encourage anyone who is thinking of getting a parrot to call a bird sanctuary first and foremost, and really get into the nitty-gritty of what to expect with life with a parrot. They should be considered extremely exotic and specialized pets. Unfortunately due to their popularity in regular pet stores many people believe they’re making the same kind of commitment they do with a dog, cat or even an easier animal such as a hamster or guinea pig. Some smaller parrots like parakeets make excellent beginner bird pets and should always be considered over larger more beautiful birds such as macaws, African grays, and cockatoos. Adopting or purchasing one of these larger parrots should be considered analogous to adopting a small child that will never grow up and might outlive you depending on how old you are when you get it. Sorry for the lecture on what is a beautiful relationship video, but I felt it needed to be said.

Absolutely. The commitment is near total. What you do NOT see in these types of videos is the chewing destruction of furniture even beyond the toys you must provide them with when not spending virtually every waking moment with them, the incredible mess their feathers and waste make, the work of cleaning and sanitizing their perches/cages and surrounding area. Want to get away for the weekend? Go on a vacation? Difficult as they usually pick ONE person to bond to and can be difficult for other family members to care for than their primary. It cannot be stressed enough of what it takes for the rare person to care for a solitary bird like this appropriately.

Yeah, my friend is Indian and she was gifted a macaw when she was young. Now she's 24, working two jobs, and she feels absolutely terrible leaving the bird home all day by itself. Well put...we were those people who purchased an Eclectus parrot without proper knowledge of what they need to be happy and healthy...fortunately we were able to give 'Sam' the attention deserved for example: 4 hourly feeds whilst still a baby, his own padded bed which now sits between our pillows in our bed! full run of the house and back yard enclosure (big cage when we are outside), shared showers followed by blow dry, lots of fresh fruit/veg plus him begging for whatever you are eating! lots of interactions....you get the idea! We would never trade Sam for anything but as you said they are an exotic pet with needs far more specialised than dogs or cats which when not met can equal cruel neglect in my view (hate to see these birds left alone in aluminum cages with a bowl of seed, they must go mad). This guy and bird represent the proper level of care and engagement a parrot requires.

In fact, the "Darwin" in Darwinsmom is my Timneh African Grey. I have also had a wonderful Quaker. There have been connections with several birds owned by neighbours and in pet stores, with whom I have had amazing connections. One of my cats was as attached to my Quaker as I was - they often cuddled together in her wicker basket. There is something about birds that just touches some of us humans deep down, and we are truly the lucky ones. When you are chosen by a bird it is a rare and wonderful thing!

Beau looks especially great at Home Depot when he shows his orange plumage! He should be their mascot.
