This channel is a gem. It is the just the opposite of the 'throw-away, junk-everything' ways we've descended into. (or ascended up to) The way a person faces up to a challenge with the limits of their tools and their experiences, applies their senses and patience - beautiful. And that's even before we get into the wonderful bikes.

I can't believe that the Suzuki engineers would put in a random self-tapper like that!

The reason you trim the slots in the clutch basket, is that they can prevent the clutch to disengage,

Great Job Craig! The Suzuki is with the right man, who should expose this so called cowboy Mechanic, to avoid others sending their bikes to him! I would like to book in my Bobber for September, if you could please to spend some really serious money, to get her back like the day that you built her! My new tank is on the way and Royal Choppers of India have did an incredible job. It's only a such a shame it were allowed to stand unused and clearly unappreciated for all them years, before she finally found the right home. I only wish the frame were older though, to avoid the miserable MOT testers in North Wales! Please give me a call, thanks. Gary

Clutch basket grooves will make it very difficult to select 1st while stationary and even harder to find neutral.

What is behind the next cover ? I'm afraid I would have to know ! Now it's this far,.: you may as well go the extra half mile , and have peace of mind theres no more self tappers lurking. Whoever, has conned your mate, should be totally ashamed of themselves, but unfortunately these characters do exist, usually under a pavement pastie. Make it safe Craig !!! Regards Mike N

can you dress the grooves out of that basket? I dunnit on a GSXR SRAD and it worked, it was hanging up on me cuz they had a hard time releasing, dresses the grooves back to smooth metal, polished that area good and it was OK .. far as I know its still working, someone was trashing the bike, stunning whatever, popping the clutch under high load and hi power who knows . .

You definitely dodged a bullet with the self tapper. I very rarely get luck like that. I think I would strip it completely just to make sure there are no more hidden issues. Clearly whoever worked on that bike in the past was not mechanically sympathetic.

G’day Craig it was good about that bearing, with the side cover that would be good to use JB Weld that would fix its great stuff and very strong Regards John

Can't help but wonder if the grooves on the clutch basket will catch the friction plates and stop them from dropping back down when in gear, causing it to slip?

Erm. I don’t mean to poke holes but I think the original crank seal was in the right way round. I own a 2t dirtbike and the seal is definitely flat side out the way the original seal was. I think if they’re flat side in you will get compression blowing by into the gearbox when the piston travels down to force the mixture up the transfer ports. The original seal might have been leaking because it was damaged on installation? Loving the Chanel as always brother!

However, that Suzuki engine may have the crank seal the opposite way around from your bikes! Suzuki might have done this on some engines.

@@qtronicqilt8898 very true. Reading my post back it doesn’t sound how it was meant to. I should have written it more as a question. I’m interested to know if some crank seals do go in that way round as every days a school day!

Damaged threads are so common on well used machines. Across the pond, we find things like primary screws replaced by 1/4 inch fine pitch SAE screws. It seems having a rudimentary knowledge of threads is rare these days.
