This lady is a fantastic groomer of Springer Spaniels both for show & pet dogs. She really understands the dogs' conformation & coats, as she shows them herself. I love watching her grooming videos. Wish she would do more.

He's a beauty of a Spaniel!! Im trimming my Springer for the first time today so I found this video helpful.

She's very kind to the dogs she grooms. Most groomers insist the dogs stand or sit the entire time. For an aged dog like this one allowing them to lie daog is very generous for the dog but, requires the skills of an expert groomer.

great video..and what a well behaved dog...gives me the confidence to groom my beautiful girl...the only thing I wished was added under the video was the size of the combs..I realize you may have said what they were but I didn't hear with the noise of the clippers what they were...

He's so well behaved, my Springers love to be brushed out, but when you bring out the clippers, nothing short of a bucket of treats for a bribe keeps them still!

Hand stripping is best, of course but, I get the impression the owner wants this dog clipped. Generally a 5F or 4F blade is used for the body. Some groomers prefer an 8.5 for the head & neck combined with a ten blade &/or combinations of all three depending on the look desired. As this is a retired show dog spending time & money to strip his undercoat coat is not practical. Clipping is faster, less costly & can be just as lovely when done carefully using multiple blade lengths. Time & cost matters when having ur Springer groomed professionally. It's not inexpensive. Also the dogs comfort is important here. This dog has likely spent hours of his life being groomed the hard way. It's a break for the retired show dog to get clipped versus standing for hours being stripped & fussed at day after day for weeks prior to shows. If the owner decided to at any point, he/she could go back to stripping this coat but, a neutered Springer already has a very thick, hot coat that becomes very curly or wavy, as well. Clipping in this case is best all around for the dog. He likely deserves his retirement & not to be groomed all of the time. Springer's take a serious commitment where grooming is concerned. Even a field dog needs routine grooming & to make it more tolerable got the dog working on their coats a bit virtually everyday is really best for the dog. Even a pet Springer should be worked with consistently, as proper grooming is so essential for this breed's health. One shouldn't let their Springer grow out much at all between extensive grooming sessions.

I can’t imagine my 7 year old working type springer being as calm and docile as this one. Mine doesn’t work and I’d never have him clipped. Twice a year he has under his tail and his pantaloons trimmed slightly (not cut short) and around his paws trimmed so that they don’t look like yeti feet. I prefer a natural look.

No hate,I breed Springer and many have not super silky coat like a Cocker. But I would never shave a Springer, I dont make a difference between Pet and Show and a old Spaniel Rule is: Never cut in the back. Than you have more and more curls. Many Springers have much Underwool. Is that away looks better.

Just a warning: you should never shave double coated dogs the coat could grow back weird and it doesn’t cool them down at all, the best thing you could do is brush them and trim areas that aren’t double coated

Oh dear lord this is painful to watch just because of the Oster A5. Honestly, I used them for decades but they just don't have the power to do this heavy coats. This is exactly what it was like for me doing a Springer (which I was raised with. We bred, trained, showed, and hunted Springers). The old Osters of the 80's had guts to them and they haven't been the same since. You would be better to switch to Andis. I went from Oster to Wahl KM-2 and they were good for the first 2 years and even they have gone to sucky mechanical wise. I now have an Andis Ultra Edge 2 speed and can't be happier.

Don't like the clipping on the back of the dog. Could have used carding tools to remove undercoat. This dog's coat was in fairly good shape. Your thinning shears seem blunt to me. Try a pair of ergonomic thinners, it will make it so much easier to scissor with a still hand.

@@charlotteeglinjensen5476 they're double coated right, do u mean shaving damages their undercoat?
@charlotteeglinjensen54763 жыл бұрын
@@jesseva299 Yes. The coat is ment to be hand stripped and when you cut it, the roots will stay back and can cause skin damage and itching and the hairs get curly. At last, the coat gets thicker and thicker and impossible to handle
