I’ve had good success reheating leftovers in a steamer basket over boiling water. They need to be wrapped in foil or the steam will make them wet, but this is a great way to reheat meats like pot roast or chicken thighs, and dishes like pasta and rice mixtures.

FYI: Microwaves do not "cook", they "heat". It comes down to the way they work. You can put items in an oven safe dish and add it to a cold oven, turn the oven on and the food will actually reheat as the oven heats. If the food is dense, leave it in for an additional 10 minutes or so. You aren't wasting time waiting for the oven to heat. You can also follow the tricks in this video. I gave up my water reheater, counter space wasting appliance over 20 years ago and haven't missed it a bit. :)

Yes, "water reheater"! It's become a giant space hog at this point, and I've realized I rarely use it for anything but heating up water for tea. I no longer have a need for cooking things quickly or last-minute since I'm finally retired and can cook things at my own pace in my various small electric appliances that do the same things (tea brewer, coffeemaker, toaster oven, pressure cooker, etc.), but that I only use as I need them, so they don't take up the same space when they're out on the counter. The freedom I feel every time I get rid of something extraneous in my life is immense! Recently I discovered that my rice cooker will do virtually everything that my pressure cooker and slow cooker can, so they are next on the trip to the thrift store!

She means a microwave. She calls it a water reheater because most people only use the microwave to reheat water for coffee tea soups, etc

I started doing this when my outlet by the microwave stopped working, and instead of using a cord, I just heated up the food on the stove instead. I don't think I'll ever go back to the microwave again, now that the outlet is fixed. With that pizza slice, I recommend cooking it in the pan for a minute or two, before putting the lid on top. And, before putting that lid on, put a few drops of water on the side of the slice, not touching it, just to increase the moisture in the pan. If you have a small cookie cutter, put it in the pan too, and put the drops of water inside the cookie cutter to contain it. You end up with a crispy bottom, and a warm cheesy top with a soft crust. It's better than it was fresh out of the oven.

In the ice storm of Jan/Feb 2009, I learned that a double boiler works well in place of a microwave. I went without electricity for 15 days and nights. Mom had a generator, so she grilled hamburgers one day, and made me two sandwiches with the works. I ate one, and saved the second one for the next day. I have a gas stove, so I am able cook on the stove top when I lose lights, and I put the cheeseburger in the top pan of a double boiler and let the water/steam heat up the sandwich. It worked like a charm. The only downside is that I didn't wrap the cheeseburger, so the bun got a little tore up when it kept sticking to the bottom of the pan. I should have wrapped it in foil. - I haven't tried it, because I have a microwave, but I've often wondered if a double boiler would be a good method to use to warm up mashed potatoes, and gravy, and other similar food items. And, since the bread stuck to the bottom of the pan, perhaps put the potatoes and gravy and other food items in an oven safe dish that will fit inside of the top boiler pan? The oven safe dish might insulate the food from the bottom of the boiler pan, and prevent scorching or burning? I will definitely be using the double boiler again when I lose lights for a few days, or if my microwave conks out on me and don't replace it right away.

Great ideas for reheating food. However I have a microwave and prefer it over using my stove top or oven because it takes less time to heat in the microwave and I’m using less dishes to reheat.

Rice, pasta (and loads of other food) can easily be heated up in a colander over a pot of boiling water. Then there's no need to add butter, stock or anything else. That's the best way to heat up rice. Pizza slices, bread, potatoes, chicken etc. do really well heated up in the air fryer....again no need to add anything.

I don't have a microwave & don't plan buying one either. Always reheated leftovers in a pan, including pizza except without a lid. Thanks to you, now I know how to reheat 🍕 & other foods the perfect way. Just wondering how can I reheat mashed potatoes? 🤔

Really great ideas. Thanks. I have really incorporated my Microwave into my kitchen, as I do meal prep and keep individual servings, frozen. Thanks.

Growing up without stove, oven, microwave, toaster... we cook and warm our food like the olden days, we used clay stove and wood or charcoal, food taste good... until now even with oven and electric, we have dirty kitchen at the side of our house we still cook food using clay stove...

I hate reheating in a microwave and I don't have one. These tips are fairly similar to what I am doing other than of course I never saw the pizza reheat that way, good to know because no one wants to reheat an oven for a few leftover slices of pizza and also risk burning the crust

I also don’t like microwaves. To reheat food I use a Mini HotLogic. They’re wonderful. You can also cook food from scratch in them or cook frozen meals. They don’t cook instantly like a microwave, you have to plan ahead, but it will keep your food warm until you’re ready for it.

Thanks for the great tips.. Can you please also make a video on what types of meal prep can be store (in fridge or freezer) for how many days? Any difference in heating food from freezer or fridge? Thanks! ❤️

Thanks for the tips! I find breakfast as the least important meal of the day. If I go throughout the day without breakfast, I have more energy and more focus during work.... Strangely enough, I beat all my personal records at the gym on my 3rd day fasting (only water for 72 hours). I think the food industry is lying to us.
