I find it easier to use a tiny bit of heel and toe when hillstarting. Even if you are bad at heel and toe, you can still get your heel down on the gas somewhat before you have to let off the brakes and clutch that way. Every friend I've seen roll back at a set of lights on a hill in a manual car I've taught how to do it and its apparently very easy to pick up on if you already drive a manual, regardless of driving skill level

Is this bad for the clutch tho? Because your holding the clutch at bite point but not letting it move

I'm curious about what you liked about the UK, there's a popular generalization that Americans don't think much about other countries and think anything that is different from the way they do things is crazy or weird.

In all my years of driving never thought you could use the clutch / brake as a biting point on hills without using the handbrake. Can you use this method on steep hills?
@lu-cthecynical Жыл бұрын
If the hill is very steep it's easier both on you and the clutch to use the handbrake. If the hill is not that steep, using the clutch like this is perfectly fine, and we're even taught to do it this way
@JohnnyDIII95 Жыл бұрын
On a steep hill you can use the brake as well instead of the handbrake. That’s how I was taught. As for me I found it to be easier using the brake instead of the handbrake
@AkiiZ-xs6wf Жыл бұрын
On a steep hill you can use the clutch and gas, because sometimes the momentum the clutch gives might not be enough and you still roll back so just add just enough gas to stay in place

It's hard doing the handbrake when it's the twist one
@LH200274 ай бұрын
In most car manuals it states not to use the clutch this way on hills as it ruins your clutch. if you are going to be a short while then go for it, but otherwise use the handbrake to save the clutch. I hate the way this is being taught to learners as clutches are expensive.

@DrivingSchoolTV10 ай бұрын
It’s a petrol A180. You can find the bite but if you try and set off too quick without gas you’ll likely stall
@_Professor_Oak9 ай бұрын
You can always find the biting point before you add gas, no matter the car. If you stall you've brought it up too far, as demonstrated in the video, she stalled by doing just that.

No. It is only applies just before we want to move, so it won't wear the clutch.

@_Professor_Oak9 ай бұрын
No because she's not moving. "Riding the clutch" refers to moving with the clutch not fully engaged, usually done by being too slow to bring the pedal up when accelerating, but obviously too quick and the cars gonna jerk or even stall. All about the balance.
