He Zhi Wen v Sean Doherty

The second home match of the new British Premier League sees the two Scottish teams going head-to-head at our venue. Our team of He Zhi Wen, Liu Song, Calum Main and, team captain, Craig Howieson takes on North Ayrshire TTC. The team consists of; Richard Main, Sean Doherty, Colin Dalgleish and Christopher Main. Match 5 sees He Zhi Wen take on Sean Doherty.

Some matches he use shorts pips and smooth rubber , why ? (He zhi wen)

In my opinion, his services are quite illegal.....he has to get rid of his freehand when he services to opponent!!!Of course, I know that our sight is affected by camera's angle, but anyway, his services are very controversial things

1:53 first legal, non-controversial serve of Doherty. Youth should learn how to throw a plastic ball, for f..s sake. They should watch how Samsonov and He Zhiwen serves.

But for the fact that he stood no chance of winning, a judge should have flagged Doherty's serves. Wen's are rule book perfect however; a completely vertical loft and no shading of the ball.

There was a time when table tennis was a spectator sport that could draw large crowds. Then the table tennis associations lost control of the equipment. The racquets got so fast and spinny that now the game is like a fencing match. Bang, bang, point over. What happened? Who won the point? What's on television? There seems to be no going back, because the racquet sellers are the sponsors.

People will still try to find a meta game that ends points quickly and efficiently I mean, if you want to promote getting rid of various rubber sheets and blades to then have one set standard then good luck with that

I think ITTF has been doing all it can to make the game more appealing. The ball got getting bigger and slower, speed glue banned, sets/serves shortened. In response, the gameplay/technique became faster and closer to the table. HZW is the last of the Mohicans with short pimp smashing style as 99% of pro players play with smooth conventional rubbers these days.
