If you are a penholder, and you just want to improve your technique - watch Wang Hao. An unprecedented, beautiful and unique style, simply a joy to watch. However, if you want to improve any other aspect of your game - just watch Ma Lin. Tactics, strategy, serve, dedication, discipline... and shenaniganry. A lot of shenaniganry. He is the main reason why I switched to penhold grip as an adult. They both deserved the grand slam so much. :/

@GIN.356.A8 жыл бұрын
Not even close, unproven, glaring weakness on his backhandside. Xu Xin has great touch and footwork i'll give him that, but he is still far behind Ma Lin and WangHao in terms of skill level and accomplishment.
@GIN.356.A8 жыл бұрын
Ma Lin is the best, Wang Hao has the better style in theory, but Ma Lin is just too crafty, the way he plays, so tactical, so awkward, it really is a pain to deal with.
@christianadriananiceta27538 жыл бұрын
Gin356a but Wang Hao most of the time defeated Ma Long and Wang Liqin players which Ma Lin loses every time. it's like full circle, while Wang Hao most of the time loses to Ma Lin...
@GIN.356.A8 жыл бұрын
Yeah Ma Lin has a hard time against solid 2 wing shakehand attackers, but Ma Lin is a really smart and aggressive player, which is more important for penholders. The way I see it, Because Wang Hao is no weakness in his backhand, he cant be exploited by shakehand players, and penhold's advantage when dealing with balls in the middle gave Wang Hao an edge. However, Ma Lin (and Xu Xin now, to a certain extent) does not rely on out-playing, Ma Lin gambles on every chance ball and plays a lot of "all or nothing" shots with extremely high single shot quality. And often times, Wang Hao, and other shakehand players could not withstand the Gambit. Personally, I think penholders should play like Ma Lin and develop a crafty and extremely aggressive playstyle, of course we should work on our backhand to mitigate its weakness whenever we could, but that should not be the focus.

ways to offensive to be compared to nadal. nadal plays a lot behind the base line with very heavy topspin. ma lin plays shorts with pushes and blocks, and likes to counter topspin for short points. just when he has to, he goes into top- top rallies! he's a lot more like the young federer who liked to gain short points with a offensive style (serve and volley for example), but could also play base line tennis when needed!

Ma Lin is one of the most talented players in the history of world table tennis, and I really like his style of play. What is important, he plays very unconventionally, uses a lot of interesting techniques in his game. This is not a formulaic technique, like some modern Chinese top tennis players, he played like a real artist, very unpredictably. There is a very complex and varied serve with the strongest spins, and a powerful forehand, and a rather unpleasant unpredictable backhand, and extremely unpleasant blocks, and shortened balls.

In my opinion, this is one of the, if not the most, difficult sport in the world. The sheer amount of coordination and stamina it takes to compete at this level is unreal. Other professional sports, like basketball for example, the players are no doubt talented, but they have a huge advantage physically, which boosts their game. Here, in table tennis, it’s complete coordination and mechanics. This sport will never get the recognition it deserves, because normal people have a tendency to look down at it as a past time and see it played at a basic level.
