By then he probaby knew his brain tumour was not curable. And he had began accepting it. He was forgetting words as a result. He sang this through like noone else could. The songs first verse mirrors his life at that time which makes it all the more heartbreaking. "I must away now, I can no longer tarry, This morning's tempest, I have to cross, I must be guided, without a stumble, Into the arms I love the most"

For sure , Luke you are still continue the best among all folk singers and I believe you could sing, perform, and give your own personal touch to Rock & Roll. @robertmcalpine488 Жыл бұрын
It's a common myth that this was his last performance. It wasn't. This was recorded in June 1983, but it wasn't broadcast until 4th November 1983. He performed inbetween those dates, most notably on a tour of Holland in late 83, and the Dubliners album Live In Carre came from that tour. His last performance was actually in early January 84, at a Dublin hotel.

People often tell me I am narrow-minded in terms of my musical taste, which is stuck somewhere in the period of the 60s through the 80s. Well, sorry, but as wild as my imagination is, I cannot imagine any modern singer do what Luke Kelly does - knowing that he will die soon, bring up a gorgeously emotional and authentic performance, which, if it doesn't bring tears to your eyes, you have never experienced real music. Rest in peace, Luke 💚💚💚

I must away now; I can no longer tarry This morning's tempest I have to cross I must be guided without a stumble Into the arms I love the most And when he came to his true love's dwelling He knelt down gently upon a stone And through her window he's whispered lowly: "Is my true lover within at home?" "Wake up, wake up, love, it is thine own true lover Wake up, wake up, love, and let me in For I am tired, love, and oh so weary And more than near drenched to the skin" She's raised her off her down soft pillow She's raised her up and she's let him in And they were locked in each other's arms Until that long night was past and gone And when that long night was past and over And when the small clouds began to grow He's taken her hand and they've kissed and parted Then he saddled and mounted and away did go I must away now; I can no longer tarry This morning's tempest I have to cross I must be guided without a stumble Into the arms I love the most
