I'd love a video that takes a look at how some archetypes integrate a game mechanic with their overall theme. Like how the Adamancipators are geologists who excavate the dig site (the deck) to discover rocks (summon them). Or how Time Thief Redoer essentially treats its temporary banish effect as regeneration similar to how _Doctor Who_ does it. Also kinda curious how you managed to go through this whole video subject without mentioning the Nemleria dream dessert monsters. I know they're mostly beasts, but still.
@j0j0dartiste21Ай бұрын
I've always interpreted time thief' banishing more like as it traveling into the future, which was also how the anime treated Destiny Hero doom lord's effect (sending monsters into the future)

It's funny because a while back (i.e. before Nouvelles was a thing), I'd come up with a concept for an archetype called Foodfiends, which is a collection of retrains of food-related cards not unlike the more recent Millennium archetype. I have them all listed below, but as I said on another recent video: I haven't actively played since the GX era, so A) I have no idea how good these are in the modern format, and B) my PSCT may be a little wonky. Foodfiend - Ravenous Burger DARK Fiend/Effect, Level 6, 2000/1850 //Base card: Hungry Burger During your Main Phase: Discard "Foodfiend" monsters with a combined Level of 6 or more from your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand. Use this effect of "Foodfiend - Ravenous Burger" only once per turn. When this card battles against a Beast monster: It gains 1000 ATK during the Damage Step only. When this card deals battle damage to your opponent: You gain LP equal to the damage dealt to your opponent. Foodfiend - Jack-O'mato DARK Plant/Effect, Level 4, 1400/1100 //Base card: Mystic Tomato If this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the GY: You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Foodfiend" monster from your Deck. Foodfiend - Mutant Veggie DARK Plant/Effect, Level 3, 600/1300 //Base card: Bio Plant While this card is face-up on the field: Your opponent's face-up monsters lose 300 ATK. If this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the GY: You can add 1 "Foodfiend - Ravenous Burger" from your Deck to your hand. Foodfiend - Legume Warrior DARK Plant/Effect, Level 4, 1400/1300 //Base card: Bean Soldier If a "Foodfiend" monster is sent from your hand to your GY: This face-up card gains 200 ATK. Foodfiend - Crazy Crustacean DARK Aqua/Effect, Level 3, 1700/1000 //Base card: Mad Lobster If your "Foodfiend" monster attacks a Defense Position monster, and you have one or more "Foodfiend" monsters in your GY, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. Foodfiend - Demon Carver DARK Fiend/Effect, Level 4, 1800/1000 //Base card: The Bistro Butcher When this monster battles an opponent's monster: Discard 1 "Foodfiend" monster from your hand, or send 1 other "Foodfiend" monster you control to the GY; this card gains ATK equal to half the original ATK of the discarded/sent monster during the Damage Step only. If this monster destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the GY: You may draw 1 card. Foodfiend - Fresh Beef DARK Fiend/Effect, Level 4, 1800/1300 //Base card: Battle Steer "Foodfiend" monsters you control gain 100 ATK for each "Foodfiend" monster with different names in your GY. During your Main Phase: Banish this card and 1 Plant-Type "Foodfiend" monster from your GY; Special Summon 1 "Foodfiend - Ravenous Burger" from your hand, Deck or GY. Foodfiend - Lettuce Head DARK Plant/Effect, Level 1, 350/300 //Base card: Griggle During your Main Phase, if you control a face-up "Foodfiend" monster: You may Special Summon this card from your hand in face-up Attack Position. If this card is sent from the field or your hand to the GY: You may send 1 monster from your Banished Zone to your GY. Use each effect of "Foodfiend - Lettuce Head" only once per turn. Foodfiend - Dunking Doom Donut DARK Fiend/Effect, Level 1, 0/0 //Base card: Doom Donuts During your Main Phase: Target 1 face-up monster; that monster loses 100 ATK for each "Foodfiend" monster in your GY until the End Phase, and if that monster's ATK becomes 0 this turn, destroy it, and if you do, you gain 400 LP. If this card is sent from the field or your hand to the GY: You can Set 1 "Doom Dessert" directly from your Deck or GY. Use each effect of "Foodfiend - Dunking Doom Donut" only once per turn. Foodfiend - King Crab Turtle DARK Aqua/Effect, Level 8, 2550/2500 //Base card: Crab Turtle During your Main Phase: Discard "Foodfiend" monsters with a combined Level of 8 or more from your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand. During your Main Phase: Pay 1000 LP; Add 1 "Foodfiend" monster from your Deck to your hand, and if you do, discard 1 "Foodfiend" monster from your hand. Use each effect of "Foodfiend - King Crab Turtle" only once per turn. Foodfiend - Fanged Fig DARK Plant/Effect, Level 1, 200/200 //Base card: Cursed Fig During your Main Phase, if you control a face-up "Foodfiend" monster: You may Special Summon this card from your hand in face-up Attack Position. If this card is sent from the field or your hand to the GY: You may target 1 Spell/Trap card on the field; destroy that target, and if you do, negate that card's effects in the GY. Use each effect of "Foodfiend - Fanged Fig" only once per turn. Foodfiend - Snapking Salmon DARK Fish/Effect, Level 5, 2400/1000 //Base card: Terrorking Salmon During your Standby Phase: You may Special Summon 1 "Foodfiend Salmon Roe Token" (Fish/DARK/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) in Defense Position. The token cannot be used for a Tribute Summon. When your opponent declares a Direct Attack: Discard 1 "Foodfiend" monster from your hand; Special Summon this card from your GY in Defense Position, but banish it when it leaves the field. Use each effect of "Foodfiend - Snapking Salmon" only once per turn. Wok of Hidden Recipes Quick-Play Spell //Base card: Mystic Wok Banish 1 "Foodfiend" monster from your GY; Activate and apply 1 of the following effects: *You gain LP equal to half the banished monster's original DEF. *Inflict damage to your opponent equal to half the banished monster's original ATK. *Special Summon 1 "Foodfiend" monster with the same Level as the banished monster from your Deck. Curry of Essence Normal Spell //Base card: Mooyan Curry Add 1 Level 4 or lower "Foodfiend" monster from your Deck to your hand. Dishonorable Recipe Normal Spell //Base card: Hamburger Recipe Pay 1000 LP, then target 1 "Foodfiend" monster in your GY; Special Summon that target, also it cannot attack this turn, and its effects are negated until the End Phase. Meatotama Normal Spell //Base card/parody of: Hinotama Discard 1 "Foodfiend" monster from your hand; Inflict damage to your opponent equal to half the discarded monster's original ATK, then if the discarded monster's original Type is Fiend, draw 1 card. Doom Dessert Normal Trap //Base card: Just Desserts Return all "Foodfiend" monsters from your GY to your Deck; Inflict 400 damage to your opponent for each card returned in this way. If this Set card is destroyed by an effect controlled by your opponent: You may add 1 "Foodfiend" monster from your GY to your hand. With all of those out of the way, here are my notes: Mechanically, the Foodfiend archetype bears some similarities to the Dark World archetype. Therefore, many of the cards that work well with the Dark World archetype (i.e. Card Destruction, Forced Requisition, Mirage of Nightmare, Dark World Lightning, The Cheerful Coffin, etc.) will also work well with Foodfiends. Note, however, that not all Foodfiend monsters like being discarded from the hand. While you can send Foodfiend monsters from your Deck to your Graveyard using cards such as Foolish Burial, Painful Choice, That Grass Looks Greener, etc., this is not the preferred method. This is because many Foodfiend monsters have effects that activate when they are sent to the Graveyard from the field and/or your hand, and as such, this is why King Crab Turtle's effect is the way it is. Fresh Beef's second effect is a reference to the Duelists of the Roses version of Hamburger Recipe. With that said, since Foodfiends are more beneficial to have in the Graveyard rather than be banished, I recommend you use this effect only in an emergency. Keep this in mind for Wok of Hidden Recipes and Snapking Salmon as well. Doom Dessert is designed to be a win condition. Be careful of effects that prevent effect damage. While you can potentially use an effect to activate it from your hand, Setting it is not as big a gamble as you may think. Using its floating effect, you can add Dunking Doom Donut to your hand, which in turn can allow you to recycle Doom Dessert. Beware of cards that banish. Cards such as Dimensional Fissure and Banisher of the Light will screw you over if they remain on the field.

12:09 Idea for a “Hungry Burger” retrain (and a Retrain for its Ritual Spell) that ties into the “Nouvelles” archetype more: _Nouvelles Grommet Hungry Burger_ (DARK) Level 6 Fiend/Ritual/Effect _This card's name becomes "Hungry Burger" while in the hand, Deck, GY, or on the field. You can Ritual Summon this card with “Grommet Burger Recipe”. If this card is Special Summoned in a way that isn’t a proper Ritual Summon; That summon is treated as a Ritual Summon. Can make additional attacks per Battle Phase for every Face-up “Nouvelles” card you control. If a “Nouvelles” monster you control attacks a defense position monster, inflict piercing battle damage. If this card is Tributed or used as Material; You can gain LP equal to it’s original ATK/DEF._ ATK/2000 DEF/1850 _Grommet Burger Recipe_ Ritual Spell _This card can be used to Ritual Summon any number of “Hungry Burger” Ritual Monsters from your hand and/or GY. You must also Pay LP equal to half the Combined Total Original ATK/DEF of the Ritual Monster(s) you Ritual Summon. You can Banish this card from your hand or GY, then Target 1 monster your opponent controls: If that Target leaves the field before the end phase of your next turn; Special Summon 1 “Nouvelles” monster from your hand, Deck or Pendulum Zones, who’s level is equal to or less that that Targets Level/Rank/Link._

So... its name is always treated as hungry burger, kinda redundant to say its treated as the burger in all locations. Just saying that is how you write effects👍
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFireАй бұрын
@ I took the effect from “Gunkan Suship Shari Red” _(“This card's name becomes "Gunkan Suship Shari" while in the hand, Deck, GY, or on the field.”)_ The idea is that you’d be able to slot this card in your deck whilst still having another 3 of the original “Hungry Burger” for your needs, as effects like _(This card's name is always treated as "Hungry Burger".)_ would invoke the rule of 3 and prevent you from using more than 3 of either Hungry Burger.
@FirstBorn-e6gАй бұрын
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire oh, makes sense i didnt know thats how that worked
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFireАй бұрын
@FirstBorn-e6g Yeah so apparently the later example is of something called name condition, which affects the card’s name even as you’re building your deck (hence it running into the rule of 3 limit). That’s what you have cards like Shari Red or the Wights while they’re in specific locations. …Actually, if that deck building part of it was excluded, Harpie and Umi decks would get an overnight power boost, as a lot of cards related to them have the Name Condition thing holding their numbers back.
