One condition about eating durian ***don’t drink alcohol when you’re eating durian, it can cause your life because Durian can stops an enzyme that helps detoxify alcohol called Aldehyde. Normally, this enzyme helps the body detoxify alcohol well. Durian will interfere with this work and can cause lead to severe dehydration and loss of oxygen levels in blood if you’re not in hand of doctors in time then can lead to death.

I am pleasantly surprised that the market area is not overly crowded the way I had imagined. Maybe I will convince the hubs to visit Thailand some time in the off season. I can't get over how affordable the food is!
@TheDufresnesАй бұрын
Ya low season is a good time to come! Food is so inexpensive here. Durian was the most expensive, but in the south where its abundant right now, they pretty much give it away! We can order a meal on grab for less than a slice of pizza in the USA or Canada and it's healthy food!

Some durians can have really strong smell. You might find the ones on the milder side. Also, durian's smell gets stronger in the air- con places and the smell will stick in the air-con system too, that's why Durian is not allowed in the places with air-conditioning.

Haha ya us too, these are much better tasting. You'll have to come here and try for yourself!
Ya we could see how it wouldn't be as good when it's over ripe, much like most fruit. The mushy texture when over ripe wouldn't be very good. Thanks for watching 😊

I’m glad you’re well enough to get out and eat street food. Not all the choices of say some Mexican street food. 🌮 It’s an adventure, but not an everyday thing to do and get fulfilment of grubs for your dinner by eating other bugs. My reaction would probably be the same as your assistant food taster Laki. 🤮🐛 Good to hear Scott & Kathy are joking in the adventure, that should be fun, Scott loves his food, so eating a scorpion might not be filling enough for him, he may have to go for a bag of fried grasshoppers and crickets. Can’t wait until you go to a Thai restaurant for some more upscale food. Looks like you’re starting to love the new world you’re in. Enjoy!
@TheDufresnesАй бұрын
China town doesn't have much choice until night, the markets here have waay more options than mexico, you'll see soon. Ya at least Lakai gave it a try tho haha. Scott doesn't know what he is in for when he get's here. He is a trooper tho and tries stuff with me, like in Panama! We have plenty of restaurants and food stalls to film at, it's never ending in this city. Hope all is well in Uvita!
@donmorrow1923Ай бұрын
@@TheDufresnes Yes, Scott loves to critique food and Kathy has said to me when he does his little “Food Dance” with his hands she gets a kick out of it. Yes, I’m sure they have some really delicious food in China Town there. I wonder if they serve chicken chow mein and garlic black bean dishes like N. America..😂…probably not. Sorry for the misspelling of Lakai’s name. Things are good here as always, compared to anywhere outside of the Western Media World. Tourist visits are up 14.5% according to the recent Tico Times article. Good for the businesses, but not so much for knuckleheads like me. 😄
@TheDufresnesАй бұрын
@donmorrow1923 haha don't believe Tico Times, Samara is empty and so are our rentals along with many of our friends rentals in Samara and even Nosara. Tourism is very low this year compared to the past. Let's hope it picks up for 2025!
@donmorrow1923Ай бұрын
@@TheDufresnes That’s interesting. The people I know who have been here in Uvita for 10+ years, they close there little AirBnb’s or B&B’s for a couple of months, but they’ve had to open it last week for the weekly reservation requests they were getting from Europe. My friend Alex works for the Private Chef company here in Uvita, and they usually slow down in the off season, but they’ve had 3 teams out these past 3 months doing breakfasts, lunches and dinners at nice rental houses from Ojachal to Dominical for large groups of U.S. visitors. Eds a little busy with his day excursions but not to much. Also the big 5 bdr rental above me has been occupied by different groups, Ticos and Gringos this past month or so.

Durian if it is too ripe, they would be smelly like you afraid, but Thais are not fond of eating it too ripe like that, they tend to eat it quite fresh so it has less smelly.

Grasshoppers, crickets and silkworms some beetles are fine to eat, it's pretty normal and many thai eat them, BUT PLS!! DO NOT EAT THE CENTIPEDES it's just for the show and no one eat them, same as scorpians pls don't eat them, they seem to put it up on the stand just for the show and get tourists excited about the exotic food (which no one eat)
You must try Long Lublae durian type or Nok Krajib type and Noan Thongjun type , it’s similar as wild flowers fragrance it’s super delicious than Mornthong durian.
