The best thing I heard in this video is the last sentence - “Ultimately you have to set the downward force and anti skate bias by ear”. I recently did this and got great results! Usually the cartridge manufacturer gives a range of minimum to maximum tracking force, and we should not hesitate to experiment using a good, accurate digital scale capable of measuring a tenth of a gram. I used a Rega Atlas scale which is very easy to use. I started at the maximum weight of 2 grams and listened to a couple of tracks I know well. Then I went down to 1.99 grams. I was shocked at the change I heard! Highs became smoother and less aggressive, bass notes became clearer and easier to hear. Even instrument separation within the soundstage improved. I continued reducing the weight till 1.90 grams (the minimum ) I found the bass starting to become light and lose impact, and the image focus started to diminish. Ultimately I settled on 1.97 grams as most satisfying. I did the same procedure with the anti skate. Thank you for this video, especially for the last sentence “ Ultimately you have to set the downward force and anti skate bias by ear”. How true! May all turntable users benefit from this!

Thanks Eric, setting things like downforce and anti-skate by ear might sound difficult but as you have found it's pretty straightforward and improves sound quality at no extra cost.
