Tab Mini C has 7.8" screen and have no SD card slot... But both are same Kaleido 3, I guess no difference...

The Tab Mini C has the boox super refresh technology so it's going to be much smoother and with less ghosting, but that probably means less battery life.

@@carloareaser Mini C has faster the refresh, so yes when you use it as a Tablet - more smoother. But if you just read books - no difference. As for me eInk it is not about the scrolling, video watching etc. etc.

​@@carloareaser battery life is a secondary concern for me. I did see a video where someone did a battery life comparison and if you're reading books only it was approximately 56 hours. If you were doing something that needed full refresh and HD mode it was only 6 hours. I'm retired and so I don't really need to worry about having to charge it up because I can plug it up anytime. I'm more concerned with smooth operation and ghosting artifacts.

This is not an accurate comparison - you should compare e-readers to e-readers and tablets to tablets. The boox is almost the cost of an entry level pixel tablet, but you will get the latest Android on the Pixel and not have to worry about horrible response times of e ink screens. If you enjoy reading, the dedicated e-reader is best hands down. I own a libra 2 and love it for flexibility (for those in the know, Calibre) and it's excellent software compared to Kindle. If I want a tablet I'd buy a tablet, not a jack of all trades wannabe

Kobo Libra Colour just died after 2.5 months, 120h of reading. To be honest, never liked the design and the cheap plasticky feeling, at least not for the money. Thanks for the device comparison. Now I'm leaning towards the new Boox. Regarding software, I guess I'll go with KOReader anyway.

In general, kobo is a ready to go ereader. The boox has alot more potential but less anchored if that makes senses.

You do know you can lower or raise the colour saturation on the Boox, so can get it looking like the Kobo. Trouble is Kobo are a bit Muted, and Boox out of the box may over saturate colours like your showing but can get a better balance of colour

None of the reviews talk about the book organization capabilities. You are going to have more than 1 book on these devices. How easy is it to find the book you want ? Can you organize by genre, author, series, etc. ? How flexible and how many levels deep can you nest your book folders ? These are importan aspects you have missed in your review.

wow that Hollow Places book cover looks nothing like the blue colored one the Boox shows you. It's like a TV showroom turning on motion smoothing and vivid color to sell you a TV. I know you can turn those options off but it's disappointing they're all enabled by default, especially if it affects text rendering too.

Wow..your Go Color 7 looks so much better than mine. I probably do not have the settings correct. I got the Go Color 7 because of the Google play and ability to add other apps. The Kobo app and books look horrible on it…any advice?

I did saw alot of negative comments about the Kobo App actually not that user friendly, hence if KOBO readers then recommend to read the books from Kobo device.

Boox your not stuck in an eco system, so can have kindle, kobo, or any other e reader apps, far more versatile and SD card up to 1 tb

Boox colour miles better, than kobo, and think the versatility makes the Boox the best e reader out there. Using Neo reader blows everything out, and yes have to remove DRM to use it, but far more features

It's a general term for restrictions placed on files (on a hard drive or streamed off of a Blu-Ray disk) to prevent unauthorized copying or usage on an unlimited number of platforms. I’m starting to realize I like toys. Reading a graphic novel on something like a iPad Pro is a dream, not sure id ever be happy reading one on a device like a Kobo. That said, it gives me color book covers so I’m really thinking about it after 6 years of the Oasis.

@@meeka59 Libra Colour as the colours from my comparisons look more natural on the Kobo. Some colors were very exaggerated on Boox. Another factor was that I like the sunken screen much more on the Kobo and repairability + kobo store. The device seems more robust overall. The flush screen on the Boox is still amazing, though. And having the versatility of Android and sd card expansion is a big plus. What I can add to the Boox though, is that the rainbow effect was much less visible when reading manga. Maybe due to the flush screen? That being said, I am going back to Libra 2. I think colour e-ink needs more time.

I've had both (in white) and sent the Kobo back! With tinkering a bit with the settings the Boox Go Color 7 is amazing! And the white version also has the sunken screen! I love it❤

I got the Kobo 2 weeks back, while its a pretty neat device especially on the reading segment, the lacks of flexibility just kinda annoying (I have 2 boox devices, so...). Gonna grab this Color 7 and see how much it lacking vs Kobo in the reading segment. If not overly huge, I might keep the Boox and sell the Kobo

@@okanimoo Keep Kobo and Sold Go Color. kobo is much better in detail and overall reading experience, despite a little lack of contrast and flexibility of Android. Anyway for Comic will be Boox.

Colour screens are already darker than the BW screen. And the Boox C extra layer on top only makes it worse. I prefer the Kobo Libra Colour.

You can adjust colour on the Boox though, so can tuen down the colour or increase it

Just looking for a reader so the KOBO is a no brainer. I have the large Boox with the stylus. the boox color is pretty washed out. I wished that i had not purchased the color after i got it. buyers remorse.

All that happens is security patches don't update. Have a Samsung S9 and still works find, so does google play store. Your old apps still work and if its just for reading wont matter. Batteries only last 3 or 5 years anyway so will need a new e reader anyway

Actually, it works, as long as you set the volume button to turn page in the Kindle app.

Yeah, it works now. You also have to set it to use volume buttons with Boox's optimize settings, not page turns, which is counterintuitive.

Returned my Kobo to get the go 7 and now I’m upset and wish I kept the kobo. Idk how anyone could like this crap more. Looks terrible compared and I got for access to apps but everything on the play store you download runs slow as heck.

You have to change the display settings. If you keep using the "normal" setting for everything, it's pretty bad for apps and internet, though it works very well for reading. Try "speed" or "A2", those are much faster

in terms of eye strain, the android is just simulating e-ink with software isn't it? So not the same but looks like it is, its just an android device still, I've found the kindle so much easier on the eyes for reading and would like to view comics, I dont mind losing some colour as a compromise, it would be awesome to have android with e-ink however. Battery life will be dramatically different between the two systems too

The Kobo is made of 100% recycled plastic and is easily reparable. Pretty sure this is not the case for the Chinese boox. 😅 Furthermore, the colour rendition on Kobo is actually much closer to the really thing than the boox.

Bottom line is the kobo is a dedicated ereader and the boox is a tablet and as a tablet is a step down from the iPad or any other legit tablet. I don’t want a tablet for an ereader. The whole point of an ereader is distraction free reading. If you want color and apps use a freaking iPad. If you want an ereader for reading the kobo is wonderful for annotating, note taking on your books, etc.

The app part is nice to have for reading comics/manga and others within an android reading app. I dont think anyone would install a non reading app on it, it runs videos like trash, no idea if anyone gonna run social media on it but who cares, i think the purpose of the e-reader being android is so people can use any app to read on it, not to use it to distract themselves or play games. Not like its capable to run them properly anyway.

Im a comic book and magazine reader so having an open source such as android is a huge welcome. Sometimes i read free on website. I tried kobo beta website browser and i find it abysmal. Also, reading on my ipad made my eyes worse.
