I'm new to the ebook world. Why do people hate on this one? I can't see any yellow and I think it looks great but I don't have any other ereader to compare to. I really want this one but the negative reviews are making me wonder if it's worth it? Can someone explain to me why this is so hated when it looks fine?

This sucks cuz this device is exactly what i wanted!! Tho i do want a device that exclusively reads books and is in Black and White, i have a few eBooks that are color illustrated, and i want them to be in color as well. It seems to meet my needs, but all the negative reviews are holding me back from purchasing it, so unless i just read it from an iPad or Tablet, i guess i'm screwed.

Can you use hoopla on this and audiobooks?

What about that glaring dead pixel the colorsoft has that becomes more prominent when you switch it to dark mode at 10:40? Also the uneven yellow at the bottom of the screen? Amazon has much more to do from a hardware standpoint which they seem to refuse to do.

I stopped the video when you said that color pops up more on Kindle. The one thing that also pops up is how Kindle has fewer details in the darker areas. On Kobo, you can see yellow spots on the dark ceramic pot in the left corner, but on Kindle, it is just plain dark. Same with some other darker details. I think you win some and lose some with both devices.

5:20 is easily the most important case for me to go with bw over color. I think people should pay extra attention to this.

How does it work in terms of getting the actual stuff to read? Do tou need to buy a subscription or membership and get free unlimited readings with it or do you pay in a individual basis per book / title? Thanks.

the basic kindle feels sharper to me

I have owned the Boox Go Color 7 and have never needed to put the front light on anywhere near the max like you have. This immediately explains the problem, which others also addressed in different ways as well. There are also other enhancements which books provides for text, sharpness, darkness, etc. that are very impressive. If the video is saying that the Kindle device is the best device to read Kindle books, nobody will argue. But the moment you want to read a PDF, ePub, or the vast number of different formats, you don't have an option. That the boox does such an acceptable job with Kindle material speaks for itself. And I love those buttons and the lighter and smaller chassis. That's why I opted for the smaller, cheaper, more flexible device.

What's the point of using the Kindle app on Boox? I mean, if you switch from Kindle to Boox I presume it is because you want to leave the Amazon ecosystem, so one can simply dedrm the books and simply transfer them to the Boox device.

Always thought these devices will take off when colour becomes a thing. Needs to improve but when it does, all the magazine apps like Magzter will be awesome. Comics, manga, etc, can’t wait.

There is a setting called "dark color enhancement" if you turn it up the text gets darker and bolder. It drove me crazy how light it was! You definitely have to have it set as a gesture or find a way to toggle it on and off as it makes everything else look awful.

On the Boox, if you adjust the animation filter timer in the e-ink settings for the kindle app (or any other app) to 1000 or more, you will eliminate the ghosting problem

For the time being, after owning more than 10 Kindles, I am quite glad, that I bought the Kobo libra color instead of waiting for a color Kindle. I think Kindles aren't what they used to be anymore. Expensive, heavy, cumbersome, too locked into the Amazon eco system, not innovative. Side loaded PDFs have no color? Are you kidding me?

You can fine tune refresh settings on Boox to do refresh after a few moments after you turn the page so that any potential app animation ends and there is no problem with ghosting then. The problem with Boox is most people don't know how to use it. 😂

TBH, the first thing I noticed when you showed the Archie comic was how unnatural the colors seemed on the Colorsoft compared to the Boox. I thought the same thing when you were comparing the Colorsoft to the Kobo Libra Colour. The Colorsoft definitely has darker colors, but at the cost of making things look unnatural. It's particularly noticeable to me on the initial image of the cover. On the Kindle, Archie looks sunburnt to me. On the Boox, the "Archie" logo looks weirdly uneven, but the rest of the cover looks better, IMO, than the Kindle.
