QE II, a woman who put duty before all else. How fitting that she persevered to greet the new British prime minister just a day or so prior to her passing. The queen’s determination and inner strength were incredible. We are grateful to have had the honor of her reign for 70 years. All across the globe her absence will be felt. Sending heartfelt condolences to the royal family at this very sad time.

@Moore Koubel she generated 5x her yearly spendings in tourism visiting Buckingham palace alone, nevermind the rest generated through revenue generated elsewhere because of it. She was a valuable ambassador and figurehead for the UK in a vast amount of situations. She had value that not a lot of other leaders had from face value alone.

She embodied Walter Bagehot’s description of the best constitutional monarch in the English Constitution (1867): The only fit material for a constitutional queen is a princess who begins early to reign - who in her youth is superior to pleasure - who in her youth is willing to labour - who has by nature a genius for discretion. Such queens are among God’s greatest gifts, but they are also among His rarest. Thank you Ma'am for 70 years.

Whether one is a monarchist or a republican one cannot fail to acknowledge, admire, and respect the character and quality of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Service. Duty. Selflessness. Stoicism. Equanimity. Dignity. Resilience. Empathy. Thoughtfulness. Wisdom… She was and shall endure across the ages as a great and constant embodiment of leadership in its best and truest sense, and well beyond that which might attach merely to her status as a monarch. As such she was and shall rightly remain a leader against which so many others (be they monarchs, presidents, prime ministers, or political pretenders) shall be measured and found wanting. It is doubtful that we will ever see her like again. And for that, and for her passing, this is truly a day of immense loss, sorrow, and mourning.

Very sad. I am lucky to have had a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth II, long back in 1961 when she visited Kolkata (then called Calcutta) in India. I was a junior school boy then. We were standing on the roadside to cheer her, when she was passing in an open car waiving hand at the crowd. She was accompanied by her husband Prince Philip, India's prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and West Bengal chief minister Dr BC Roy. Those were the days, with not so much of security protocol as at present. I think strict measures with discontinuance of VIPs travelling in open car started after the assassination of the US President John F Kennedy in November 1963. May her soul rest in peace.

Actually, she remained very accessible to the public - despite the risk. I saw her and Philip in Blackburn (UK) about 16 years ago. The public stood behind a thin barrier. She then walked right next to us, along the barrier, talking to us and accepting flowers, etc. I was so close I could have touched her. It really wasn't safe for them. Meanwhile, Philip walked along the barriers on the other side of the road. At one stage, he even lifted a kid over the barrier, to play with him 😁 I saw the Queen and Philip again in Blackburn in 2014, and they weren't able to walk so far then. And she was so tired from the visit, she fell asleep in the car as it drove away (past us crowds). But she suddenly woke up, realised we were waving at her, and she looked concerned. She then desperately began waving back towards those she had missed waving to (whilst she was asleep). It was like she didn't want to let anyone down, even though she was exhausted. She'll be missed. And it was so beautiful that a rare double rainbow shone over Buckingham Palace tonight, just 45 mins before her death was announced. People can interpret that, according to their personal beliefs. Rest in Peace, Your Majesty.

@@jondunmore4268 you couldn't be further off. Australia will aim much more than ever to become republic, many commonwealth countries may follow suit. The funeral procession and coronational fees, as well as businesses being suspended for some days, will cost the UK billions.

Although many people I know are Anti-Monarchy, people need to appreciate what she did for us, when she was 10, her Uncle King Edward VIII, abdicated and threw the monarchy in dissaray. In 1940 when she was 14 years old, Windsor Castle was bombed during the blitz... she went against her council and forced her way to join the war effort and joining the ATS where 345 of their members were killed, she was 19. Yes, there are controversies, but, she brought peace and stability to her country through her own efforts, creating the commonwealth and guiding the British Empire to a peace and orderly end; unlike every other empire before it, which always fell in flames. Rest In Peace, Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II 🙏 ❤

I find it interesting that you have all sorts of feminists for decades crying and complaining about women's rights, equality etc. and yet Elisabeth for 70 years quietly went along doing her duty as the strongest women in the world.

At 4:18 I think we have confused which Commonwealth we are talking about. The map here shows the Commonwealth of Nations. They do not have the British Monarch as their formal head. It is a loose association of countries which had some ties to the UK at some point in the past. The one which does have the British Monarch as their formal head is the Commonwealth Realm, different from the one mentioned above. Plus at 3:46, in 1953, Pakistan was also an entity of the Commonwealth Realm and had the British Monarch as its formal head, till 1956 when it became the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
