I had the SSD issue with my Pearl Mimic and I panicked because I was not the original purchaser, I had bought mine second half off of Reverb for 1500$ (great price). I was't positive if I was having the issue at first but I actually got a message on the console telling me that there was an issue. I called up Pearl and just by giving them the serial number they immediate gave me an RMA and I sent the unit in, no questions asked, no asking for proof of purchase or the receipt. They were great. It did take 2 months to get it back but their service was great and I give them credit, it could have been a real nightmare.

I have owned and gigged Edrums for years starting with a TD8 and have a pretty old TD20, I have recently ordered a TD17 (as part of the VAD306) after several years playing acoustics live and only using Edrums for practice. This is a really useful video as are all your others - please keep them coming!

I'm sorry that that happened to you! I brought my TD-50 in May 2018. I called Roland and asked them if there were any updates that I needed to do before I started to use the module. Roland highly recommended that I upgrade to the new updates...which I did. I've used this module on over 250 shows (and counting) and I've never had any of the issues that you mentioned.

I use a Yamaha DTX 582k to trigger drum software (Addictive Drums 2, Groove agents 5, etc.). I'm very pleased with the results (latency, sound quality, overall feel) to the point that I think a high tier module would be overkill. Then again, I've never used a flagship module to trigger VSTI's.
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
If you're happy with what you have, may as well stick with it! The benefits of going for a flagship for VSTs are sort of a case of diminishing returns for your cash - it might perform marginally better but probably not so much better that it's entirely worth it unless you're going to a Roland with the digital pads from a very low level module, for example. I would imagine the DTX502 module and the 900 modules probably perform similarly over midi and it's only really the inputs that would be different, but I don't have proper experience with Yamaha modules.

Thank you, hugely appreciated! Hope the videos help you get to the sound you want, it's always a challenge but with the right approach I think you'll find success! A hybrid kit is definitely a good solution for a variety sounds! I'm a guitar player. I bought a cheap TD-4 kit used to use with Superior drummer software that I already owned. It worked out fine for a bit. I added a DDRUM DDTi So I could add more cymbals as the TD-4 is really lacking. Now, I'm using dual Axis kick drum triggers, with acoustic drum shells with Joebecky mesh heads, Zildjian low volume cymbals with Magnatrack cymbal triggers. This was far too much for the DDTi and TD-4 drumming into Superior Drummer. I have added a TD-20 that has much more flexibility and a midi to USB cable. I'm still trying to dial in the cymbals and Hi-hat triggering both in the module and in the software. I haven't had enough time with it yet. Idk if buying the TD-30 would have helped that much other than adding USB.

@@Chrisloft I forgot about the 2box issue until recently - I remember there being a problem where people would get no sounds for a moment then all of a sudden everything would play at once. Is that the one you mean? Although these have been temporary issues, they still affected many people and took varying amounts of time to resolve. Of course we can expect new products to have teething issues at times but I'd rather people knew about them than not know it happened! Cheers for watching 😊

Thank you! My pads are a bit of a mish-mash of different brands and it varies over the course of the videos. But mainly - some DIY (kick, rack tom, 10" aux pad), 2x Alesis Strike floor toms (14"), Roland digital snare or a 13" snare with either a Gear Drum or DRONE trigger in it, then the cymbals are a mix of Roland (digital ride, CY-15R as a crash, CY-12R/C as a crash, some old CY-8 cymbals as splashes sometimes), an ATV 18" ride (often used as a crash unless on the Mimic), I used to have some Alesis Strike cymbals (16" and 2x14") but they all broke, and nowadays I use a Yamaha PCY135 as a hi-hat pad with a Roland FD-7 controller.

Thanks for the video,and sorry you had those issues. I have a TD-30 K and have and I would happily buy another one. I've played it for thousands of hours, but I will not buy a TD-50. Roland have not done the right thing with their customers and I don't trust them, as they clearly did not exercise due diligence in their QA processes, and seem ok to continue selling faulty products knowing that they have serious issues. Bit of a rant this, but it's just not ok for them to charge as much as they do and deliver such poor reliability.
@TheeDrumWorkshop

Yeah, I can understand your concerns there and to be honest, I will most likely hold off before purchasing whatever the next module might be for that exact reason! And yeah, being the market leader and charging so much, you'd expect a quicker fix, or it not happening at all! Thanks for watching!

Well apart from the Pearl Drum X (80s) and the Yammy DTX v2 (2001) I have mainly used generic e-kits. So I haven't had any issues. Recently, I decide to treat myself to a used Roland TD-8. I'm delighted with it ,although I had to get an FD-8 pedal as my generic one wouldn't work with the Roland. But apart from that, its great. My present generic kit (pads, cymbals, an rack) is in fact made by Alesis, for a German music shop..

The alesis strike module as an upgrade to my td-11kv has been mostly good experience. Paid 500$ for very lightly used module. Have had a hell of a time getting trigger settings functional, and not hi hat settings surprisingly enough. Is an excellent module for live use, however will be buying a Roland td-27 in future because the Roland usb recording functionality and sounds are a delight and trying to future proof my kit for 5 years hopefully

Just sending my TD27KVX kit back due to frustrations with setup (sensitivity) and playability... issues with balanced sounds (volume) between the preset kits, one kit would have super loud snare the next loud toms etc, ride cymbal sometimes got stuck in a choked sound (even though I hadn't choked it), hi-hat sensitivity (volume) issues near the edge, bass drum usually just quiet and I definitely wasn't tickling it. Meh!

What is your opinion of the best electronic drumset in 2020 if money isn't an issue ?? i want to buy a new kit with the best feel and triggering and hardware. but also the best sounds. I also saw a video on Superior Drummer 3, and i am interested in adding that to a kit. I just want the best realistic drum sounds, not all the gimmicky non drum sounds. I want this kit for practice and studio recording, not playing live, also i am not a tec person so I don't want to over complicate things. the simpler the better. even something like the SD3 i might need to get help setting up. but i will figure that out when i get to that point. I just don't want to record with drums that don't sound like a real kit. thankyou for any advice.
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
It's always tough to recommend stuff without people trying it themselves, and "best" is always subjective. Going on what you've said - recording at home, probably for use with a VST for the sounds, not for gigging - one of the TD-27 kits is probably the best all-round packages. The digital pads (snare and ride) are great to play on and Roland pads + triggers are a great combo for VSTs. They usually work the best out of the box with hooking up to software if you've not had previous experience and VSTs like Superior Drummer 3 can even take advantage of the positional sensing from a Roland module on the snare and ride which helps add to the immersion. You didn't say whether "acoustic-style" pads/head sizes matter to you or not, so if not - the TD-27KV is decent. 3x 10" toms and a small kick tower, with the 14" digital snare and 18" digital ride, couple of small crashes. If you'd rather have a set-up that closely resembles an acoustic kit, the new VAD kits look great. I've not had chance to try one but reports from people that have are that they play well (expected with Roland, usually). There's the VAD503 which has the digital pads, one rack tom, one floor tom and one crash, along with a 20" kick drum pad, then the VAD506 which has an extra rack tom and crash. They're not cheap but they're a good package if the money isn't an issue. I'd personally recommend the 27 kits over the TD-50 kits for this application because you're not using the in-built sounds or some of the features like extra outputs etc. It can do everything the TD-50 can in terms of playability of the snare and ride and USB functionality for hooking up to a computer. Hope that helps.

@@TheeDrumWorkshop Hey mate, just an addition to this comment to help PhotoJohn out... I am in the exact same position as John and after much research I've found that the td27-kv is the better choice in terms of bang for your buck.. I was going to go the VAD306 due to the fact I can't stand the small kick pad on the 27 but the lads at kosmic sound perth informed me that if I wanted to add the x2 kick pedal it wouldn't fit on the hoop centrally on the VAD306 causing ALOT of frustration.. this is unacceptable.. so I've decided to go the td27 as the double kick pedal can be adjusted side to side due to its flat anchor point for the kick... and of course the digital snare and ride... I just won't be gigging enough to need the 'look' of the Vad306 and I can always pimp up the 27 over time... hope this helps 🔥

Hey, another Englishman! That sounds like a cool plan! It's difficult to say for sure as I haven't seen a lot of them around for sale. The only reference point I have is that drum-tec sell them new for about £510 plus shipping, so depending on the condition I'd probably aim somewhere that's below that enough to make yours worthwhile. If it's still in very good condition maybe try for £400-450 and then go down from there if there's no takers?
