Very nice kit and demo. For the time being I'll stick with my custom converted kit that cost 6% of what this DW kit costs. DIY triggers, IO interface into a mac running a VST. Getting positional sensing. Looking forward to the future with contactless triggers using AI training. Great time to be an E-kit drummer.

Would you use the DWe with a TD 50X (and laptop) for live gigs?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 10 сағат бұрын
Unlikely. I'm not with the band I used eDrums with anymore and I'm also not a fan of running a laptop at gigs as I mentioned in this video. I'd potentially use the kit with a module at gigs if I was (onboard/custom sounds), but I would also want to use rubber cymbals depending on the venue due to the volume!

Hello James, I've used the DWe kit, DWe hub and TD50X module in a live situation! It works GREAT! Now I use my DWe kit, DWe hub and V71 module in a live situation. The difference in the TD50X and V71 is the sounds. The sounds are better in the V71 module.

Great video, we bought the dwe kit for our church but the stick on cymbal noise was overwhelming. we added the roland cymbals and v71 module problem solved. is it possible to route the v71 into soundworks instead of adding all the dwe kits to the module from the cloud. thanks
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop Күн бұрын
The kits on the Cloud and the Soundworks VST aren't exactly the same, so you won't get the same results. It feels like the Soundworks sounds might have a few more layers overall, but then the V71's samples play far more smoothly and feel more dynamic overall from the off. The number of instruments differs and all of the presets are very different, it's only some of the base samples that have been converted to Roland's module format. It is possible to just trigger Soundworks with the V71 module, yeah. You could either route the audio out of another audio interface, or you could use the module itself as the interface and route the audio out of the outputs but it requires a bit of knowledge to set it up.

I can't unhear the horrible machine gunning on the V71 module, especially on the toms of the DW expansions. Are there some kind of one shot samples causing it?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop Күн бұрын
No one-shot samples anywhere in the V71 examples as far as I'm aware, no. Pretty certain all of the presets on the module and in the expansions are using the full instruments (whether that's the stock ones or the ones added with the expansions)

Awesome! I have a V71 & PD14DSX to upgrade my VAD706 kit. Super excited and still waiting on stock to arrive though lol. Are you working on V71 kits at the moment, judging by the free pre-set you have provided I'm guessing so! Will there be a way to transfer kits I purchased for the TD50X to the V71, or will it just be a case of you creating newer versions of those kits with the V71 module and selling them? How are you finding the V71 as an upgrade to the TD50X?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop Күн бұрын
I only had the TD-716 and V71 module in the studio for a few weeks, it's back with Roland now. So no, I've not had chance to develop any other kits for it yet. Once I get my own module, I'll begin development after getting more acquainted with it. The development process for every module is separate because they all use different sounds and settings so there won't be a transfer process, they'll have to be new kits that are sold separately.

I have tried all VST programs with my TD27, triggering the hi hats just is not very good. I even tried the DW sound works, my VH14 just did not trigger as it should have, so I sacked all the VST programs and learned how to edit the TD27. Now I will not use any VST as the TD27 sounds great.

I also use the V71 editor on my laptop to quickly get to any settings that I need. This video was insanely informative! It answered questions I've had about this combo. I've dabbled with using module and DWe a couple of times, but always under time constraints and I never got it fully set up correctly. I tried using the DWe very briefly with a TD30 a year ago, but the MIDI notes didn't line up to what the TD30 needed, and I didn't have enough time to figure out how to remap everything. More recently I've used the DWe with a TD27 using the USB method. Everything worked great, but the rimshot triggered a click sound for some reason, and once again I didn't have enough time to change the settings to get it fully functional. Great video!
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop Күн бұрын
Thanks Justin! 🙏 It's great that you've had the chance to try the kit with a few different modules, but a shame about having such limited time. Yeah, the MIDI mapping is something that will come up depending on the module. It's pretty easy to swap them in the Control software but if you don't have time or know where to find those settings then that's not much help!

Upping the sensitivity helped, because I noticed i had to hit really hard to get close to 125 velocity. I upped the sensitivity so i was hitting 125 with a realistic force. I noticed I'm not hitting the e-drums as hard as regular drums so I needed to compensate for that. Now the samples sound great, but they're pretty much one note samples. That's the limitation of Roland modules though.

Tou can trigger shallow and deep rimshots with the DWe snare in the V71, you just have to sacrifice rim clicks.

That Rooland snare looks really crap, its about time they put it in a shell that looks more like an acoustic snare. I took the basked out of my Roland 140 snare and put it in a Peral snare wood shell. Looks much better with the VAD 607 kit.

@@aaronsudasna And put that plastic rim back on with those lugs, best just to do what I did and put the sensor in a real snare. I wrapped my whole kit as it only came in sparkle black when I bought my VAD 507. I do have the V71 on order as the TD 27 is very limiting for recording. using it as the sound card connected to my PC is a very painstaking process. If you have a windows PC you can only run one sound module at a time. So I have to disconnect my Scarlett 18i20, connect the TD27. load all the input channel settings, record the kit. If I want to re record a bass part I have to disconnect the TD 27 and put the 1820 back. It's all centered on people just playing drums. very poorly thought out. Unless you spend £5k on a Mac. best just to use the midi, that then defeats the purpose of the 27 channels from USB. This is a very important point that is just never mentioned about using the Roland modules with a DAW PC recording setup. As a sound module that is one of its selling points and the reason I bought it, it's really not very good, in fact its bad. facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10161467693726802&set=a.10151323187246802

Subbed. Now I'm in an apartment the e-kit is the main kit, but I'm adding more to it as it was minimal when I got it; I've added small percussion bits, blocks and cowbells etc. I'm definitely thinking the mix of acoustic and electric drums is my route now mesh heads have improved. But it's going to be a year before I'm fully set up, then there's the other stuff - how do I deal with replacing my roto-toms, or changing them? What about other equipment like the Octopad stuff and the like? But I want to keep it all to a limited space.

I have some and I aim to have a review in the next month or so. Overall though, the multiple side trigger versions of the Fast Fit triggers are really nice in my opinion and they remove the center hot spot. The center cone version does still have a hot spot and is quite similar to the old spoke style trigger I reviewed previously in terms of general response. I'll have much more detail in the review though, of course.
