Paul was always the best dancer, followed by Melvin. And that middle split that David did...I don't remember seeing anyone do that other than him. He had another move where he tossed the mic in the air, spun around while it was still airborne, and ended with the mike in his hand as he's completing the turn and coming up from a squat position. I used to practice that as a kid. I believe it was after he left the group and appeared on Sullivan's show. The song he sung was "My Whole World Ended". Remember that like it was yesterday.

I grew up in Detroit and it was a natural gas, on Friday night's the TEMPTATIONS would come to the White Castle ( .12 cent hamburgers ) in a candy red convertible Cadillac and us kids hang all over the car talking with the Temps. Man it was Big fun! Each year in Detroit starting on Christmas eve and, ending on New year's eve night, there was the Motown Review It cost .75 cent each day to attend within that week, yould see the whole of Motown's Acts, There was nothing like it Any where. I can hardly believe that those days are gone. Years later my Wife, RIP, and, I spent A Memorial day with Melvin Franklin and, his Wife and, Mother in law Bar B Qing. I loved all of the TEMPTATIONS. Just a couple of Months or so ago, I posted on FB: HOW LUCKY CAN YOU BE TO GET TO GROW UP IN DETROIT WITH MOTOWN AND THE TEMPTATIONS! I'm now 73 years old, and you talk about MEMORIES! I loved it then, and I love it now! The Music Will Always BE.ENJOY!

These, Ladies and Gentlemen, are the Original Temptations and trust me when I say that there has never been, nor shall there ever be, a better vocal group. PERIOD. Though Dennis Edwards, Ollie Woodson and others came along and made their marks AFTER David Ruffin left, and though Al and others came BEFORE David Ruffin, it is quite clear that the Temptations were NOT a hit making act, nor a household name UNTIL David Ruffin made it happen. Therefore, the point I'm making here is that none of the people who came before David Ruffin matter and will never be counted.

Lol this isn't the OG Tempts. David Ruffin wasn't original Temptation. Second the group became much more popular with Dennis Edwards singing lead.
@zoneseven12222 жыл бұрын
@@googlemyself4091 You are most certainly entitled to your opinion. However, if you think that Dennis Edwards compares to David Ruffin in any way, shape or form, you're either a comedian or insane. As for David Ruffin not being an original, that depends on what you consider original. Every group or band can trace their roots back to when they had other members, but never made it until they found the "right" combination. David Ruffin was the man who sang the Temts first HIT record and he is the reason they went from being called "The No-Hit Tempts" to being a household name. ANYONE who came before David (including Al) really doesn't matter and will never be considered, just as no one will ever consider any of the Chicago Bulls before the Michael Jordan era. Duh.

They were thorough professionals. They rehearsed those precise dance moves and routines, they were all super talents individually, but as a kid I was enraptured by Ruffin. I mean, compare their smooth stuff to what's out there today and it just looks like wild noise compared to the Temps. The Supremes too, when they were DRESSED. The matching gowns. The gorgous harmonies and moves. The Temps made their dance sequences look so easy, but I've tried to copy the sequence and it's not that simple. Even "my girl" the sequence - they looked very casual, but you have to focus to be uniform with the other 4. A mistake would really have stood out.

They could clear the streets whenever the word went out, "the Temptations gettin' ready to come on" (TV.) Afterwards, me and my teenage buddies would come back out and stand in the alley or street corners harmonizing in the hopes that we might someday make it to where the other GREAT Soul and R&B Singers were back in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. Before Rap and Hip Hop burst on the scene. 🤗🎵🎶🎵

I have one regret in life. I have seen the Temps live seven times over the years with various line-ups, but I never got to see the original guys, I was too young! David, Eddie and Paul had all left by the time I first went to a live show. Have to content myself by watching great vids like this. Thanks for posting.

The Classic 5. These are The Temptations. Period. Their dance moves are classy and amazing. David's "split" at 3:09 is fantastic. I love this group. I never get tired of their sound.

That was a nice turn-around finish by Otis Williams at, 0:38. He stood there like, "I'm READY for the next thing." He is, second from the right, of the background singers. He is also the second one to circle around David Ruffin, at, 3:39.
