The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Happy Veteran Day to all those who served. Today is always the day that my dad is my first thought in the morning. Thank you dad, for being the man you are. Serving in the National Guards... it was evident you were going to serve your country. That he did. He was one of lucky ones. And he most certainly knew it! God Bless you all! 🙏 Happy Friday 🕊 Thank you for sharing! 💖

It's great to see George M Cohan, there are very few films of him, but this could not have been the Ed Sullivan Show. The Ed Sullivan Show debuted in 1948, and George M Cohan died in 1942.

My grandparents lived right next to a kind Doughboy (popular nickname for the American infantryman during World War 1) Back in the late 70s. We would talk a lot because I loved WW1 aviation etc. He still had the lungs to belt Over There out. ❤ Love this channel. I would buy every blue ray/DVD Of every episode if possible. But I’m grateful for what I got.

As an update to my earlier comment, in which, through my own research, I concluded the following to be true, this has now been confirmed to be rare video footage of George M. Cohan Sr., not Jr. The footage was shot in Providence, Rhode Island in September 1934. Brian McNicholl, a George M. Cohan historian who uploaded a rare radio recording of George singing "Over There" is the one who has confirmed this. Edit: The uploaders have now corrected the title of the video.

This appears to be newsreel footage from the '30's or '40's. I strongly suspect this is actually George M. Cohan Sr, not Jr. as the title states. Looking at pictures, this man looks like the famous George M. Cohan Sr., writer of patriotic songs such as "Over There", "You're a Grand Old Flag" and others like "Give My Regards to Broadway" and played by James Cagney in the film "Yankee Doodle Dandy". In addition, I just listened to a recording of Jr. singing "Over There" and this does not sound like him, so I feel this is likely Sr. in the video. This does not appear to be something that was filmed for the Ed Sullivan show, but rather, much earlier film footage. This is speculation, but perhaps George M. Cohan Jr. was on this episode talking about his famous father, and Ed showed this rare film footage of his dad. Sr. passed away in 1942, while his son, Jr., passed away in 2000.

@@that70sgirl90 You're welcome! Yes, I think Jill was right. This was one of Ed's ASCAP tribute episodes detailing the history of popular music, so this footage was probably aired a as a tribute to George M. Cohan. I had to do a bit of research to figure this one out!

According to the video title, this is George M. Cohan Jr., his son, not Sr. Jr. passed away in the year 2000. That being said, I think the video title is incorrect and this is actually newsreel footage of George M. Cohan Sr. from the '40's or '30's as the man looks like Sr. It may be some of the only footage of George M. Cohan that exists.

@@HoorayTV21 Looking at pictures of Jr., and listening to recordings of him, I think this video is misnamed and it's actually extremely rare footage of George M. Cohan Sr. Going by the way people are dressed in the video, it looks like film footage from the early '40's or '30's.

Yeah, the old Older Americans could win that war…. Not the military of today. Paper solders and then when they come home.. from enlisting and having a very easy time over there…. all they do is complain. With all due respect to the vets that have continually lost their lives in the military… no matter when. I just don’t have much faith in a soldier today. I don’t think half could have been in WW1 or 2 or Nam.
