Hungary was never a destination I thought about visiting until watching your videos. Now you have inspired me to see Budapest.

I subscriber of mine told me last year that the underground trains system in Budapest is the (second) oldest in the world and the city planners in NYC looked to it for guidance and inspiration when building the original NYC Subway. I can totally see that in your opening shot.

We went to Budapest about ten years ago, in January. Visited those baths, it was both brilliant and surreal. There were older guys playing chess all along the perimeter, and we were up to our chins in the water because it was -10 Celcius. It started to snow, and your body was toasty warm, while you got a cap of snow on your hair!

Seeing this brought back awesome memories of my trip this past July- This city surprised me in ways I couldn’t imagine. it also hit me on an emotional level- I can pretty much say this city left a positive impression on me and I would go back In a heartbeat. I had previously visited Scandinavia the past few summers going back to 2015 and thought it couldn’t get any better! It was my experience that I encountered many who may not have a comfortable knowledge of English but they are super cordial and accommodating and was not an issue. I had some amazing Goulash at a restaurant near St. Steven’s Basilica. Even took in Sunday Mass. It ties with Tallinn, Estonia in my book for favorite city. During this quarantine I’ve been looking up Budapest videos to keep upbeat. For anyone planning a trip, the Szechenyi baths is a definite must visit and experience!

Lol... I don't blame her... I was upset just hearing about it on their video... Plus the extra service charge... But it did look like good food....

To be honest the extra service charge would have annoyed me more than anything else. In some countries if shopkeepers hear someone speaking English the price goes up, that has happened to me several times.

That subway is so ornate and “classy” because it’s over a hundred years old. It’s very shallow as well. You may have noticed it being just below the street. The cars on that line were originally pulled by horses. It’s one of the oldest subway lines in Europe, if I remember reading correctly. Pretty cool.
@Theendlessadventure7 жыл бұрын
Pulled by horses?! How cool and crazy! And you're right, now that we think about it, they are really shallow stations. Thanks for the info!

The London Underground is the oldest in the word, the trains were originally Steam powered so it must have been really smokey down there
@bosnyakz6 жыл бұрын
@@Theendlessadventure I have to admit, that would be cool, but no horses were down that tunnel. Actually, it is the 2nd oldest subway (1st oldest is London Underground), and the first electric subway (so no smoke at all, like in London).

That public bath you went to was pretty awesome. We were there a few years ago in October and loved it. Each of the indoor pools contains different minerals and gasses, they have information pamphlets in the lobby. But the best part = did you know on Saturday nights they add disco lights and lasers and several alcohol bars and turn the whole outdoor pool into party central. Can you imagine thousands of bikini-clad boys and girls all drinking and dancing and falling down drunk. What fun.

I travelled to Budapest in August of last year, and I absolutely adored the city. The architecture is absolutely stunning, and we visited the same ruin bar. We met such lovely inside the bar, and Hungarian lady who was very chatty, and people from the UK and Australia. The only bad experience we had was crossing a road and a lady in her car beeped her horn and was shouting at us in Hungarian to hurry up, and we were over-charged massively for a 5 minute taxi ride.

I am glad that a minor setback is not going to drag you down, Like Allison I would be so annoyed to get microwave food, if you go out, you expect a chef cooked meal (And no mysterious 'tourist tax') , but it is all part of the rich experience of travelling. I miss being young and just being able to hop on a plane or train and go see somewhere (Wife and 3 school age children change travel aspirations massively) But the last month or so of watching you both (And Nikita) has inspired me to try something different, I have a long weekend off of work, so I am going to stay in my home town, but in a hotel, and get them to direct me wherever it is that they send tourists; I think it will be fascinating to see if I find something new or have a new experience, luckily with local knowledge, I know where to get some good food! Keep up the inspiration, hope to have you back in the UK sometime soon.

On behalf of my Hungarian relatives and Cossack ancestors, I wish to apologize to all of you, specially Allison, for being so upset at having to eat crummy nuked garbage instead of a REAL, cooked meal. Chicken Papricosh (peppered chicken) is such an easy thing to make, that it disgusts me to see you guys ripped off this way. -- The only thing I can think of for this rip off, is you all went to a place owned by a Gypsie clan and they will do anything to make a cheap Euro.

Have you ever been to Glenwood Springs in Colorado the natural spring pools there are so cool on the sides of the warm mineral spring water pool are jets out water like a jacuzzi.. and it's huge! You should visit there when you go to Colorado again it's my favorite place to go when I visit. And that incident you had in that Hungarian restaurant reminds me of National Lampoon's European Vacation where they go to Paris France and they think they're ordering this fancy French food but it's really microwave food and they garnish it and then give it to them that's so funny.. well in the movie it's funny if you had to really experience it it's not.

I'm so ashamed of our people doing this to tourists...Greedy shopkeepers and even taxi drivers tend to do this. A few years ago it used to be even worse. I hope these bad experiences don't spoil your overall opinion tho. In the countryside ( and basically everywhere else besides the capital) good quality beer can be bought for like 1 euros. If you want to try some Hungarian beers out check "Soproni", "Borsodi","Dreher"". Also, could you let us know the name of that scamming restaurant?

I was thinking. I do that occasionally don't you know. Anyway. I've travelled to and lived in lots of countries (dad was a soldier). On a holiday to Spain back in the 1960's (Dad drove from Germany, down to Spain) Mum and Dad swore that one day, they would retire to Spain. That's what they did. Dad was English, Mum was German. Neither wanted to live in the land of their birth. So I was wondering, is there any country that you have thus far visited, that you think to yourselves "One day, when we retire, we will live here"?
