3:53 Even if I personally feel cringe if somebody is telling me things without asking (although you had a conversation before that) the guy next to your table won the day. Most of the hungarian restaurants bringing stew as goulash because "yeah they are foreigners, whatever". Goulash (gulyás) is a soup, indeed, he was 100% right and I'm happy that somebody made this clear. Goulash as "main dish" is not goulash, but a stew which can be made from pork, beef or chicken. Chicken stew and chicken paprika is almost the same, but "chicken paprika" contains sour cream. Beef stew (which presented as "goulash main dish") is the best with boiled potatoes or "juhtúrós sztrapacska" which is a kind of noodle - similar to "nokedli" or "galuska" - with a hint of cottage cheese. All of these above worth a try in my opinion. :) PS: Expert level of stew is "pacal" which is also a stew technically, made from beef stomach which sounds ugly AF but it's awesome.

Wait until you see the video where André wanted to try the lángos, and got a plain one with garlic. Then he saw another guy was having it with sour cream and cheese so he went back to have the same, and the woman put only cheese on it... Cmon Hungarian people in gastronomy, if you see a foreign people goes to you be proactive. This is your chance the show the truly amazing Hungarian food. Plain lángos wtf.... And it should go without saying that if someone asks for gulyás they mean the soup unless they say they want the stew.

Goulash was originally a stew (thick meat stew) with dumplings, but not so similar to gnocchi as that one is made with potato, flour, egg, salt, etc. The goulash soup is weaker compared to the stew version which is served with the noodle/dumpling called in Hungarian as nokedli.

I have one traveler advice for you: You should never get food in Capital cities or big tourist cities, if you want a real traditional expirience. I learned that lesson in Italy, where I had worse pizza in Rome, than I can buy in my home country Slovakia. Many big tourist cities don´t know, how to make traditional food from a certain regions and since they are trying to appeal to the foreigner tourist - many times, they won´t do food the traditional way, cause people from other countries might not like it, as home people. I recommand to go to the small towns, villages and certain regions, that are famous for a certain dishes, if you want a real "authentic traditional expirience".

I should probably put this comment under some other video, but when I see the bread, I'm wondering what do you think about classic bread in Czech Republic? With the hard crust. Most countries doesn't have that kind of bread, when I was in England 10 years ago, I never saw that kind of bread there.

Czech eat goulash with dumplings and they don’t really tolerate hot food. Hungarian goulash is usually eaten with bread and it’s hot….or at least supposed to be

Szia is an informal greeting. Hungarians say it to their friends. Use hello freely, Hungarians use it too.

Also I don’t know if it’s true but I heard Hungary actually has the spiciest traditional food found in Europe. U should try Halászlé (spicy fish soup)

Our dishes made in the pot are very spicy and we have many such dishes. In addition to the grill, hotpot dishes are also fashionable here.

The red paste is called Erős Pista (Strong Stephan)🙂 it is very nice too, but hot 😛

It was very nice of the gentleman that advised you to try the soup rather than the stew/ragu, which you can have in Czech with knedlík. Although, nokedli (the person sitting next to you described it as "like gnocchi) is also worth to try with chicken paprikás ;-)

If you drink with somebody you can use the 'cheers' here as well. but there are many other words/phrases you can use like: Egészségedre, or the shorter versions of it like Egészség, Egi, or Egsh, or you can say also "fenékig' which is a bit funny one, and also the Isten-Isten (means God-God). Or 'Ami marad, az harag' (everything what will remain is anger/wrath)

theres a food translation problem between Czech and Magyars... in Czech we cook goulash which is a (preferably) beef stew and we eat it with knedlíky... but what is called goulash in Czech is called perkelt in Hungary. Goulash in Hungary is what you got. The point of original magyar goulash is that it has no flour in it (therefore soup) - the dish is made only of ingredients that magyar cow herders had with them when they spent a week out in the wilderness herding cows... meat, water, spices, some potatoes and vegetables. these cow herders are called goujash in hungarian... therefore the name of the dish :)

Well this video is in Hungary and Gulyás is from Hungary originally so i think the confusion is with Czech language haha. As long as it tastes good 👍
@AlexAlex-zv7fc2 жыл бұрын
Correct. That's why you shouldn't put pork in the goulash soup, since the goulash feeds cattle and not pigs. The stew can be made from pork, beef or chicken.
@zbynekurbanek33452 жыл бұрын
@@AlexAlex-zv7fc technically the stew shouldnt be pork either... because why would it be? the point of the whole thing is that its beef... but 40 years of communism discouraged Czechs from eating beef because communists didnt breed meat cows here. Im pretty sure thats where the "pork goulash" comes from.
@tommeiner99832 жыл бұрын
That's like calling lasagna pizza. As a Hungarian I really don't get it, why don't you just call it pörkölt or "perkelt" or whatever variation instead of the name of a completely different dish?
@zbynekurbanek33452 жыл бұрын
@@tommeiner9983 yea we have no idea either trust me... but to rename now is quite impossible... weve been calling it this way for many generations...

Goulash demistified: Gulyásleves (Herder's soup) is the hearty soup Marhapörkölt (beef stew) is the beef in sauce with small dumplings. Both traditional hingarian cuisine. When the hungarian soup and stew became known abroad, foreign countries mixed up things and used the Goulash label for the beef stew dish, as innforeign countries soup-culture is not really widespread. So it's become the perfect tourist confusing problem, whenever a foreigner ask for Goulash, waiter may ask: the Gulyásleves we xall in Hungary gulyás, or the "foreign goulash" which we call here marhapörkölt (beef stew). Actually the two dish is very similar in most of its ingredients.
