Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire N64 Playthrough Sewers of Imperial City

Mission 8 Sewers of Imperial City.
I could remember where all the CP's in this mission were, all because when I was young, I kept replaying this level up until the boss fight. The Giant Dianoga freaked me the hell out.
What is it with the N64 and water thats so damn scary.

Just in case this you guys weren't terrified enough at this level, here's a fun fact: According to Star Wars lore, the color of a dianoga (the trash monster) is determined by the food it eats. All the dianoga in the sewers are flesh-colored. Sweet dreams.

The dianoga at the end is supposed to be a giant version of the species but it doesn't really resemble them at all. Its basically an aquatic Sarlacc.

@@Ergeniz True, I think it was a mistake to have the giant dianoga be a fixed element in the center of the room. I’d say it should have been able to move freely in an even larger room, just imagine how SCARY that would’ve been!

I attribute this level to my thalassophobia in real life. I still remember being horrified of those little dianogas swimming around. And then at the end, Jesus Christ...I never looked at water the same. The idea of something that big swimming in the water with you...this game is amazing, but it fucked me up man.

the small Dianogas alone were frightening when I was a kid, but the boss was a real nightmare in comparison. Probably took me as long as the Dead Hand from OoT to have the courage to do the level and kill it. which was around 7 years.

As a kid, one of the rare moments where I would shut my eyes out of fear is when I would go too low in the boss section, to where you saw the body of the dianoga. I would immediately shut my eyes or look away and mash A to get the fuck out ASAP. To this day, there is still a lingering fear, not as strong but still present.

The only reason I was able to get past this mission was because my dad had a GAMESHARK and was able to put a max inventory of disruptor bombs in my save or something. I remember spamming a TON of them as soon as I was in the water. The only other area that scared me as much as this was the Royal Family Tomb in TLoZ 64.

I'm right at the giant dianoga right now. Its paused. I don't think I can go through with it and i'm fucking 19 years old. The other dianogas are so scary as well. Even when you kill them I cringe when they make that noise. Its unbarable. I don't even go in the water even when I know they are dead. Its too freaky. I absolutely love this game even since I got it for Christmas in 99'.

I can't tell who's harder in this game. Between the Gladiator Droid or the giant Dianoga. cuz both bosses somehow find ways to kill you quicker than the other bosses like Boba Fett, IG-88, the Imperial Loader Droid and the two AT-ST's
