I love that it’s not an Americanized world and also isn’t just a vacation world. It feels less exoticized that way. I love the attention to detail in the build/buy and CAS sections. Any faults I’ve been seeing with it seem like overall Sims 4 problems like the lack of interesting, long-term gameplay and style-over-substance. And the general lack of Sims around town.
@alexdelaloire87394 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I feel about Sulani. The fact that it' less exotic makes it so refreshing (cause I grew up on an Island and I really like how it's a residential world). If I have to send my sims on vacation I would have chosen San Myshuno or Brindletown Bay...they feel more exotic to me.

Whew...you touched on some major points. Idk why the team misses the gameplay mark repeatedly. Especially like you said, with re-using animations. If we have the animations - make a new dang activity with an existing animation. And activities for kids, we get another activity table, for what?! I totally agree that they missed an opportunity for kids to have a tea set. They need to hire game changers, or have a game think tank BEFORE they release it and add the things they missed. Smh.
@melissahunt50744 жыл бұрын
I easily could be wrong, so take what I say with a grain of salt and definitely don’t quote me on this but I’m wondering if Ea/Sims Gurus are more focused on builds in the Sims 4 due to all the building influencers on KZbin? Not that it’s a bad thing, I enjoy all kinds of content, but I just notice the gurus tend to play favourites with builders, probably due to who could perhaps introduce more people to the game because of popularity? Again this is all speculation, so no one can actually say for sure if my assumption is absolute. It’s just patterns I noticed. While it’s a smart strategy for a business, and I understand where they are coming from, it’s be nice if the Sims team would invite game play influencers to an expansion so they can add some more depth and flavour to the games core. I don’t know if they will, but I think it would be nice if they did.

With every new pack, they really should include more options for holidays, festivals and events if you have Seasons or City Living. When I create a new save, immediately I pack the calendar with at least one holiday or event each week, so this pack would be really juiced if we could create other Japanese or cultural events all year round.
@Shinojeru14 жыл бұрын
As a passionate tea lover, yes, the lack of new tea things is disappointing. You could argue the ceremonial stuff is more of a Chinese thing and this pack is Japan-focused, but still, tea is a cultural staple of Japan too, with teahouses and all that, and what's a better way to warm up than a cup of hot tea? A little tea set for the kids would have been so perfect! It's a shame the sims team didn't have that idea. But I'm still very excited for the pack!!!

Agreed overall, but especially that the tea set for kids was a real missed opportunity. I'm glad they can ski and sled, and that there's a new look for the science set, but the tea set is something completely new and cute that they could also have at home, even if they never visited the mountain. (Also, I could be wrong but I swear Sims 3 had a tea set? Okay, after checking, the store had a working one but kids couldn't use it... it's still better than nothing, I guess!)

Yeeaaaah, I had a feeling this would be the consensus. While I love the idea of this pack and would use it time to time if I had it, I absolutely cannot justify the $52 price tag (in CAD). You are completely right in that the idea of a expansion pack is to EXPAND the world, and this just does not do it for me. Glad to hear though honestly that Lifestyles are pretty narrow as that was really the only part I could see myself wanting and didn't want to miss out on that. I'm really glad Sentiments are not exclusive to this pack. The scope of this just seems too small and when comparing it to other expansions that I can utilize many different times for different sims and different stories, this just doesn't hold up considering the huge price tag. I honestly think they may need to adjust their pricing profile or increase the content offered in each pack. I know Hearthstone, as another long running game with 3 expansions a year is seeing, the game is just too prohibitively expensive for anyone new to get into or to justify continually buying new content.

two things i DEFINETLY would've loved to have in this pack were teamaking and martial arts. tea ceremony/chadou is such a relaxing and peaceful activity and macha is so pleasant, it would've been such a small but interesting activity to add in that would've definetly added to the pack. Martial arts may have been a little stereotypical but i just wanted martial arts to return into TS4 and this felt like the most appropriate pack to bring them back and another fitness activity to do indoors rather than outdoors.

It seems so obvious and that they were almost there but just didnt include it. Winter Sports Athlete: I mean...you're already doing it, how hard would it have been to throw up a rabbit hole career where you cycle through rockclimbing and then branches out to skiing or snowboarding. Atleast the career part will undoubtedly come in Mods. As much as I love new packs, I love seeing the CC and Mods that come after packs are released. I’ve been playing a Japanese family in sims 4 for about a year now, this is on console so no access to custom content, and it’s been hard! Like for new years japanese families normally go to the shrine and pray, so currently I just have them go off to a ceremony, but now I can actually have them go visit and pray at actual shrines 🙌🏻. I do wish there was an at home alter (for inside the home), or if someone passes away on this game, of instead of getting a grave you get an alter, that would be cool. The family I made was actually based off of this japanese mum who has a cooking youtube and she’s always dressed formally in kimono’s, and again, I’ve had so few choices in kimonos. I honestly can not wait for this pack. I’m finally going to be playing this family properly. The kotatsu as well, and finally having things that let your sims sit on the floor, I bought spa day just for the little bits of potentially japanese fitting stuff and so they could sit on meditation stools just to be that little bit closer. The only thing I wish is that the bar came with food as well, because Izakaya’s normally serve foods as well as drinks and I think that would have made the bar a bit different, and yeah, there should 100% have been sake.

I was super excited for Island Living and then played it hard and got bored with it - but I've found now I play with it sometimes rather than all the time (ie in rotational gameplay), I get more enjoyment out of it. I suspect I'll be the same with this pack - visit it with some families, maybe have one family live in the neighbourhood. That'll stop me from getting burned out on the new content. What I am disappointed about is the point you hit on, about how the activities seem locked to that world. No hiking outside the new world (when Granite Falls in particular is the most boring world ever and begging for some new activities) is a real shame! I'd also have loved to see tobogganing/sledging/sledding in other snowy worlds, but I can see the issue from the team's point of view.

Ok let’s be honest after I played world adventures in sims 3 I no longer wanted to do it. It’s unfair for us to hammer at sims 4 for replay ability. I’ve never seen a simmer constantly replay world adventures in sims 3. Once I played through owning a escort in sims 3 that was the last time I did it. Where sims 4 has failed is the blending of all the other packs into the base game like catching some bugs in other worlds, adopting stray pets in other worlds, if they can incorporate the other games into the game it would be ten times better.

... I learned so much. As I am deciding if I want to buy this. I was expecting it to be a game pack. I was also expecting a playable zen garden ! What a missed opportunity ! Tea too! I only have base game so I have to ask. Do Sims get whims where they want to go to to these other worlds if you have them installed? I was really excited about this pack at first. Until I found it was not just a game pack. I think they should have split them into 2 game worlds. Mt. Komorebi for Japanese inspired and the snowboarding and skiing could have been a diffrent non USA world. I would have liked to see more Asain cultures included here too. But that may have been too much.

Question for all LP lovers, which of these legacy challenges sound more entertaining to watch? 1. The "I'm a Lover Challenge"-Every Generation has a different type of romance. ex. The main sim gets married, cheats, and gets caught by the sim for the next generation's sim. That Sim wants the "perfect" family 2. The "Parentcy Challenge"-Every Generation has a different parenting style. ex. This Generation has the "perfect" family, but the next generation thinks that's boring. They have multiple children, all with different parents. They don't stay in relationships very long

I actually disagree. I think it's one of the best sims 4 expansions and they achieved (in my opinion) the low expectations for a sims 4 pack. I don't think it needed to add any indoor activity because base game and a few others have that covered and I prefer them to put effort into something else. I also think it affects other worlds with the rental lots. For me this is HUGE and I love the idea. It would have been nice to have a few other things but I am still happy. (for the sims 4... sims 5 better be better = deliver like sims 3 packs 😂)

I didn't realize you couldn't use the rock walls as a debug item that you could place in different worlds. That is really disappointing and was something I was really looking forward to putting into other worlds :(

Great video. I'd love for this pack to have at least 3 new careers, Winter sports instructors, Geisha and Train conductor (guard). I guess we'll need some brilliant content creator to give us what this pack is lacking. Yet I feel like this will be a good addition to the game overall and I will buy it, unlike "J to B", that is totally useless to my style of gaming (never buying that one)

It is almost that they wanted a Japanese World but either didn't want TOO Japanese, fearing some people would not want it, or didn't understand Japanese culture enough to really "get it". As you pointed out the lack of any depth when it came to tea culture. And, to my knowledge, no calligraphy, paper folding, or anything related to cherry blossom viewing.

there is a little bit of paper folding, I wish kids could create their own on the crafts table though. they can buy paper kabutos at the festival of youth

I... honestly don't know what people want. "There is not enough to do" or "it doesn't expand the game" is said over and over for all my favorite packs. It seems to me that all the things people say are missing are right there. "Replayability"? What? Sims is not about Replayability, it is about every day life. If you don't think this has replayability, then going to the bathroom in base game should only be done once, as well? I mean what is the replayability in cooking meals?
@DoveJS4 жыл бұрын
Replayability matters if you play more than one family but even if you're doing a legacy, it can take effect because then you're more likely to cycle through the options. But more importantly, you kind of want a different experience with different Sims and most things will be the same each time. The festivals, going skiing... hiking and mountain climbing might be a bit different but only by so much. Sims 4 just doesn't have enough randomness and when it does add it in, you cycle through it pretty quickly, like random events at work for example. With children, it's even worse because they have limited aspirations, limited after school options, and limited activities overall, which is why it's so good they've been included with some of the most recent skills (knitting, skiing, and sledding.) When I played Sims 3, none of my families felt the same... my Mermaid married the mailman who died and became a ghost, then she had a ghost baby in Island Paradise world. They lived on a house boat. My Japanese Fisherman Sim was obsessed with Chinese culture but he was so poor, living in his big city apartment, that he could only visit once and had to study martial arts at home. My Fairy was actually a townie whom the Sim I made married and I don't remember much about him but I know she went to college after having twin boys. She kept staying out too late so she crashed all over campus in her little fairy house where she had parties and stuff. My Equestrian pseudo-elf chick made friends with a wild unicorn and I planned on having her raise a bunch of foals but never got that far. Obviously, if you don't branch out much then you're going to go through what you like really quickly and there's always going to be some repetition but the problem with this gameplay versus prior Sims games is that there was a lot more to do in Sims 2 and Sims 3 and more chaos meant more unexpected results. Sims 4 is pretty easy to finish everything and explore every corner of every world if you're determined. After 6 years a lot of people who've been playing for a long time have done that. There's a stronger emphasis on doing everything yourself if you want to tell a particular story too... the townies don't really do anything on their own whereas in previous games they were coded to live their own lives to an extent. There just isn't much to discover when the Sims you control are the only ones really actively doing anything so the focus comes down to what your Sims can do and if they've done everything or it doesn't impact much outside of the new world, it can feel kind of empty. So, while going to the bathroom is a necessity if for example your trip to Mt. Komorebi feels the same each time, it's going to get boring fast and you're just going to stop visiting the mountain. I think this new world has a little more staying power than that but not by a lot. Now more than ever, you have to apply your own restrictions to really have fun in Sims 4. I think that's what people are really complaining about. Not everyone, but a lot of people have commented over time on various forums I've been to, that they really only enjoy CAS and/or Build and Buy Mode. As soon as they actually play a Sim, they get bored. I have several families, in different saves, which I rotate but even I've experienced that feeling before which is very telling and not a great sign. I haven't done everything in every expansion that I've got but I have long stretches of time when I don't play because I have to be very focused on my own goals to enjoy the game.

I think it's just a case of animation and function. Using your example, even though everyone cooks and it's not always a different animation there are always a different out come that you choose. That's probably why a lot of people don't think packs don't have enough gameplay.

This pack feels way more reminiscent of the travel packs from sims 3 which I was obsessed with. Just enough randomization to make the repetitive activities A challenge each time. I also like that this pack insnt insular to itself like jungle adventure is. Because there’s no lots you can live on in that pack, the developers didn’t put as much time into building the world. So once you go through the jungle a couple of times it’s like...okay well I just spent a shit load of simoleons to...sit in a house? Which I was already doing before I traveled? This feels more like the sims three travel packs because the world is more fully realized and the people their have their own relationships etc. Like when you would go to the French themed world in sims 3 and visit the little cottages and the winery and stuff

If drinking is part of the culture and they even have an izekaya then why didnt they include: Shochu, Umeshu, and Sake to the drink menu. Like come on EA do your homework all the way instead of half-guess things.

On the careers, I was disappointed there was no Yakuza career. Bold choice for a Sims game I know, but hot springs, especially the really traditional ones, often don't allow people with tattoos, because tattoos in Japan have traditionally been a Yakuza thing. So a "no tattoos" rule (as a lot trait maybe?) would've been interesting, with staff actually shooing your Sim away if you have one, and could've incorporated unlockable tattoos in the Yakuza career. So as you rank up, you get more and more tattoos, instead of the usual unlocked objects. I mean a Salaryman is just a Japanese-themed Business career, so why not a Japanese-themed Crime career? There could've been bars frequented by Yakuza in one area and bars frequented by Salarypeople in another (like how the Strangerville bar is frequented by Military Sims). Maybe instead of the Lounge? It's a good build, but I never use Lounges, and a lot of other Simmers I know don't use them either. Could also be the source of the grudge two of the townies have: the Elder (can't remember his name) could be a Yakuza boss :D
