The android saga was so much fun. Trunks’ ominous warning and then watching everything unfold leading up to cell. The mystery and sense of terror was epic. Especially on the old VHS tape commercials.

I still enjoy seeing these characters I grew up with interact and super occasionally ascends to pretty epic heights even if the power levels make absolutely no sense anymore. It’s more like Dragonball because they actually get other characters involved rather than just Saiyans.

I much prefer the Androids saga over the Cell saga portion of the arc. The plot of the arc with its time travel explanation made perfect sense until Cell's ridiculoud time paradox nonsense! Cell claims he came from a timeline where the androids wrecked the future AND where Trunks went back in time to kill Freiza. Only one of these can be true.

Also I find it funny that 17 always said he was the “ultimate/strongest android.” Then he kinda had the wind taken out of him when cell came around and 16 was revealed to be stronger. However, everything kinda came back around full circle and now 17 is basically the only one to rival goku. I LOVE that they brought him back. I was disappointed after the cell saga when he was shelved for awhile. But they brought him back and made him bad ass

I was always amazed with the idea in DB and DBZ that scientists like Dr Gero and Bulma we're able to not only create androids but then create androids whom were even more powerful than super Saiyans.

Bulma invented a time machine that was capable of backwards time travel and her father invented a way to compress large matter (cars, fully equipped and furnished houses, etc) into portable devices the size of a pill - without any ill effects lol. To be honest, genius scientists figuring out a way to create strong fighters based on observation and using their data/cells is more buyable than the ass-pull explanations of new mystical villains appearing out of the blue (like Majin Buu and Beerus) that's stronger than the last one, because the plot demands it. It worked up until the Frieza arc, Frieza was supposed to be the strongest being in the universe. It's a problem that plagues DBZ/DB Super more than the original DB, as in that, there was no emphasis on power levels (Goku was fighting strong people and villains on Earth) and no one had the power to obliterate the world at the touch of their fingers.

The android saga blew my tiny mind as a young boy. First realizing Frieza is back, there's another saiyan, the fact that he's also a SSJ, about the androids and Trunks' timeline, that they aren't the same androids Trunks was referring to, that the new ones are stronger, and that the newest villain, Cell, was potentially going to be the strongest. Oh, and Vegeta in a shower and wearing a pink shirt lol

Interestingly enough, 17 and 18 couldn’t sense power levels, but could read other things. For example when vegetas attack missed, 18 said something like he was off by 2 degrees. This combined with their eternal energy cores really make them fascinating. They were always my favorite characters tbh. I wonder if gero just hadn’t completed their energy sensing function.

It would have made more sense to me if Goku had killed Gero's son (who we knew was a RR soldier at some point) that served as the prototype for #16. Goku was very trigger-happy during his younger years and murdered all those soldiers from the RRA in cold blood, so it would have made more sense than Gero being so hellbent on revenge if all Goku did was destroy the RRA base without him around.

Those were the days! After the series was over, I had done research when I was 11 as much as any fan and so on. Never did stopped. Yet you had beat me to the punch here. Nice, Geekdom! Gohan's ss2 transformation does not have anywhere near the level of build up that Goku's did and the narrative trigger for it is even more thematically and narratively hollow. Gohan transforms after the death of an android Gohan had never even meet until the day of the fight with Cell. The pacing of the Freeza saga was arduous, but the moment Goku transformed fit the story that had been set up since the saiyan saga. Gohan does not get this justification in spite of deserving more since his inner power was always hinted at. The second half of the cell saga is a narrative mess.

In both dubs, and I'm pretty sure in the sub, (it's been a while since I've seen the show), but Android 17 scan Android 16 in the pod before they released him, and Android 17 said that he was stronger than Android 16 because of the data or something like that, but when Android 16 fought Cell it was shown that he was stronger than everyone at that time. So it always had me thinking, if there were a few bugs, or a defect on 17's design, or something like that.

can I just say I absolutely love that shot of the T-800 at 6:52. Its just so iconic for the movie and its right at the beginning. The human skull getting crushed and the machine just standing there, surveying the battlefield, its plasma rifle in one hand and the huge explosion in the distance. Its just such an amazing shot. Even later Terminator movies just havent been able to surpass that in terms of camera shots and scenes

@3:56 the first of anime I remember is one of my favorites!!! It is the 1973 anime television series, Shinzō Ningen Kyashān which means "Neo-Human Casshern", known in the United States as Casshan from animation studio Tatsunoko Productions. Back in 1994/95, the U.S. put out a special of anime with the hit anime film Heavy Metal. But what they did was do an anime special that featured Casshan, Ghost in the Shell, Cyborg 009 and few others. These were really awesome and I think Ninja Scholl, Ronin and something else debuted then. I love every single one of these! Along with Dragonball, Naruto and First of the North Star, these add joy to me along with my childhood shows Ultraman - the ultimate of android robots! Of course, Voltron, The Transformers and Gatchamen (more peak human conditioned; augmented like Bionic 6!) all play a part in this with Gundam and Starcon. One of the most exciting of android stories is Silver Hawks, Centaurians and Megaman! There are so many more including Astroboy!!!

Hope Toriyama makes #17 and #18 train. With the debut of Hedo in the Capsule Corporation the androids can ask him to modify them to be stronger. Bulma already possess the project of the androids, like we saw during the Cell arc, so Hedo can study the projects and make #17 and #18 stronger. The androids are not into fighting anymore #18 especially, so Toriyama has to think something like "oh no, what if Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Gohan are not here to protect the world?? #17 we need to be stronger to protect our families, let's ask to the little brat to do something and then we go training to the Hyperbolic Time-Chamber"
