Adam has addressed that a few times and I think the part where they argue over the overlap length is more why they broke up. They always had the same goal it was just more of how they went about getting to it was the issue. Adam mentioned that they worked together really well and they had very similar minds he talks about how they could assemble something under water and communicate only through hand signs and do excellent work. They just were often not using the same scope to look at the target.

@@thetotalitarianturtle3755at the end of this episode, the narrator mentions that the FBI files claim that 'an oar' was found on Angel Island, not the raft (not saying that hasn't been updated, I don't know, just saying that's the information they had at the time). And tidal testing showed that a back-pressure tide would carry anything from the north shore of the Marion Headlands directly to Angel Island. So basically, if the escapees dumped their raft and oars at the headlands, it would have been carried to Angel Island. I wish they'd have shown this with the tide model.

Of course you would make your heading towards Angel Island! IF you make it there, GREAT! If the tide pulls you west and south, you'd end up as far north as possible on the north side of the bridge. Aim for the north side of the bridge, and you'll go out to sea. These guys were criminals. However, as a human you somehow feel compelled to route for them getting out. It's almost like The Running Man.

Has to be said, Frank Morris was a good looking guy. Taking nothing away from them though, remember that some British POWs in Colditz managed to build a damn plane! They erected a false wall in the attic and were working behind it when the Germans came to inspect the attic, A guard tapped on the wall, found nothing wrong with it despite the fact that it was made of painted bedsheets, and went on his way. The only reason they didn't launch it was because the Yanks liberated the camp before they were ready to go. Always like to think what the Germans must have felt when they were shown the glider. "Look Fritz, we built a plane and were about to fly our of your "escape-proof" prison." "But zis voz against ze rules!" "Yeah, we had a meeting about that..."
