I have pica, and while I appreciate him trying to bring light to a rare disorder, I feel like he missed out a lot of parts. What he described was very severe pica. And, none of us have dirt for dinner or any meal at that. Trust me. Most of us still value nutrition, such as me. A severely underweight individual that developed pica from anxiety. Thanks if you read this- I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

I had a friend in high school with Pica! Me and my tiny friend group (me, her and two other people) would go over to her place all the time. She had 12 CATS. Luckily she only ate her own hair and not cat hair. You know which rare disorder REALLY isn't fun? EXPLODING HEAD SYNDROME. Right when you're on the edge of sleep, you hallucinate an EXTREMELY loud noise. Some I've had have been gunshots, a woman shrieking, doors slamming and trumpets.

I weirdly think I've had exploding head syndrome here and there, yet at the same time maybe it's more along the lines of paranoia I *will* get it. There's been times I've tried to sleep (which I already have many problems with) then hear a strange boom, but it's like... dream like, you can tell it's not there but at the same time you thought it was real... I don't experience this often though, usually with nights when I'm trying to sleep a lotttt and not just stay up.... then finally sleep

@@ApolloFirearmslook at mine and I know how to do a random thing in my head so give me a random formula
@vesnafall
@vesnafall 2 ай бұрын
@@-P4nda_H3re- No worries! Basically, throughout my school years I could copy a formula step-by-step if I am able to look at an example. Ex. on a notecard, a solved question using the formula so I could resolve the example formula as needed, knowing I had the right numbers. There also could be nothing new is added -- If there is a step that is supposed to be inferred, I am very rarely able to do so, even simple ones -- and my brain had to NOT decide "67" is actually "76" and such. I also benefit(ed) from a calculator lol. If I don't have a reference and have to do it from memory, I tend to misremember. Add numbers changing on me and once I studied for 4 hours to get a 4% on a test I thought I did very well on. I only got my degree (in English!) after 2 attempts at a math class because, despite going to every study session and being assured I'm a "great student" ... I was failing and ended up breaking down crying in the professor's office. I got unexpected extra credit and barely passed with a C. I am also terrible at judging time (I really need to just start doubling how long I think something will take LOL) and spatial puzzles. My mom solved a puzzle in a Zelda game for me once because it was a you jump here, they jump there... thing and I was NOT getting it. At work, I can usually read numbers fine, but sometimes I struggle with repeating and/or long ones without spaces or commas. I also flip numbers if I am verbally told them fairly often (phone numbers are my bane), and I will do it without noticing. I also sometimes handle raffles/tickets, so I'm pretty handy with a spreadsheet and triple checking my work. I looveee the concept of RNG and I think it's neat how nature does math. I DO have math textbooks for my own slow studying. I appreciate numbers! They do good work! Solid 8/10! Just don't throw math at me, and don't rush me if it's important. Basically, I am sensitive (as my original comment shows) to comments akin to "But are you even trying?" and "Oh, but it's so easy!" because of my dyscalculia. I try to remember it exists for other things when it IS something I'm good at and another person is not. I am also sensitive to offered help because I know it is offered genuinely, but look man LOOK I HAVE TRIED I DO TRY PLEASE JUST TELL ME WHAT THE ANSWER IS- Obviously everyone experiences the same disorder differently, but for me personally, my dyscalculia does kick my ass at times, it really does. But at least I have a calculator in my pocket!

Some of my favorites include: paper (either the printer kind, toilet paper or tissues), cardboard, sand (yes, sand), my own blood and scab (talk about self cannibalism), leaves off of random trees, straight up ice cubes (no drink or anything, just munch), the dirt from under my fingernails (pretty tasty), my fingernails themselves (I didn’t not bite my nails because I was stressed. I bit them because I liked the taste), plastic (yes, small pieces of plastic sound like a real snack), small pieces of rubber and hair (I kinda got over this one but I used to just pull out my hair and eat it) I can also agree on the whole paint chip thing, and I generally don’t like soap, as I prefer liberal amounts of toothpaste and maybe some extra tasty medecine

12:03 this one is so relatable tbh I had mice in my room for like one or two nights before they died and I had to sleep on a chair in my dining room because I was too afraid to be connected to the floor even after they died and I only fell asleep at like midnight because I was waiting to see if they had made any noises during the nighttime and when I finally went back to my room I was still so afraid of going to sleep that I tried to pull an all nighter but failed and my sleep schedule still hasn’t recovered (I go to sleep at like 4 AM usually now and wake up a 11:00 am). But like I’m pretty sure that’s mostly normal, even if not to that degree

It makes me so happy to see a video that includes pica! I have been professionally diagnosed with pica 3 years ago and I have had it since kindergarten but I still eat nonfood items as a senior in high school. Pica has altered my life in very unhealthy ways such as keeping a bag of dirt in a drawer beside my bed, collecting cute thumbtacks so I can swallow them easier, always having a bottle of water with me so I can eat small rocks that I find, having permanently chipped teeth, and constantly fearing for my guts health. One of the worst experiences that I have ever had due to my disorder was swallowing 16 thumbtacks in one night and trying not to throw them up. I recall feeling horrible before swallowing them so I just did it as a way to cope but I fell asleep that night on my back and listening to myself dry heaving and coughing like crazy. The morning after I called my friend and they asked me “how are you still alive?” and I still am amazed with my resiliency that night. I never got surgery, got an X-ray, or went to the hospital once out of fear of my relatives knowing.

I could be wrong, but capgras syndrome and imposter syndrome are entirely different things if I'm not mistaken. Capgras involves believing someone(s) might be an imposter with ulterior motives or thoughts than what they show and express, but imposter syndrome, really simply put, is an extreme/persistent belief that you didn't actually earn and therefore don't deserve your own achievements and the praise, benefits or positivity that come with it. Essentially, believing you're a fraud no matter the amount of work or skill or other put into something. Maybe it's a bit nitpicky to point out, though mental illnesses and disorders already have so many mis"diagnosed" or symptoms attributed to one thing when it's actually something completely different, at least in the public eye with manic depression as a huge example

I have that, too. I was "gifted" and did all those programs scoring in the top 98-99th percentile somehow. But failed grade 10 math twice, and had to get a college tutor. It wasn't hard math at all, but it never looked right to me. I learned to fake it and guess REALLY well. I took a real estate test, never studied, got 87%. Like, how?? My language skills carried me through. Comprehension, vocabulary, understanding writing formulas,etc. I feel for you. It's literally physically frustrating. My muscles would tense up and my ankles would itch from the fear that even though I've read my answer and checked everything 3 times that it was still completely wrong. Anytime I try to estimate distance...WAYYYY off. If I'm counting anything, I have to put it in little piles of 3 or 5 and then try to add those up. Over and over. I have erotomania. (Trigger warning btw for grooming) It is a little different in my case since my erotomania thing stemmed from the said character helping me get out of a very very dangerous situation with someone who was about a decade older than me (which almost ruined my life before it started and left me scarred therefore I am TERRIFIED of real relationships now). I will admit it looks delusional from an outsider's perspective, but it is one of those things you don't understand unless you have it. But I wouldn't go harass the voice actors of the character I love since in my mind, they're separate entities. I can confirm that some of us, or at least me, often assume people are jealous of our perfect relationship. I have a tendency to secretly glare at others in real relationships because I find it extremely repulsive. Is it healthy? No. I am in therapy for all of this (not JUST for this, but for the horrific grooming I experienced to cause this as well as a shitty upbringing). I think another thing that kind of pushed me into being this way is my mother was trapped in an abusive marriage with my dad for 20 years and I know it won't happen to me because of how it is between me and my character. It is literally impossible for us to hurt each other. I don't know how common it is with erotomaniacs to be self aware even to a degree but yeah, that's just me. The feelings he did describe are things that are true/do experience. Minus the stalking part. I find that creepy (and its kind of impossible if the person in question doesn't exist).

My parents thought it was fine when I was a baby/toddler, obviously babies put things in their mouths, but they found it weird when I kept these habits over time. Some of my personal favorites were paper, plastic, plastic wrap, cloth, thread, hair, etc. it’s a really rough thing to deal with, especially because my parents never helped me with it (or when they tried to, it would only worsen the problems) I’ve been getting better, though and it’s been manageable for the past few years.

I’ve been diagnosed with Pica, and it’s both controlled my life and caused self-esteem issues. I have a craving for blood and skin. pair that with OCD, and I have little to no will to resist my urges. in fact, I indulge in them because I quite enjoy the taste of blood. I talk about my experience as a struggle between Pica and Hemomania, which is described as an impulse control disorder characterized by an intense desire / impulse to see one's own blood, self-bloodlet, and / or taste / drink one's own blood. these behaviors impair functioning. it is more often than not that I am picking at acne to eat the skin and the blood, even if absentmindedly. this isn’t good for my skin, of course, and I will go out of my way to spend many minutes that dedicate to consuming my blood. as a born female, my menstrual cycle does NOT help this in the slightest, as disgusting as it may be. I hope to ditch the habit when I’m older. sadly, being placed on iron pills hasn’t helped the cravings :”) but we’ll keep at it!

Severe rectal prolapse (diagnosed as a adolescent)- rare (it’s common in the elderly, and pretty uncommon in children, but it is really rare for a child over the age of 4 to be diagnosed with it, so the age of my onset and diagnosis of it makes it rare) 9. When you talked about PICA i noticed that part when you said that it mostly happens to pregnant women and this information just instantly triggered one inner memory where i was thought by culture that for example my future wife might have something we call in my country whem (وحم) where she can ask me to bring her literally any type a THING she wants for food rather if it's actually food or not .(From my mother's perspective she said that she personally knew A LOT of women who had some urge to eat COAL and LIME sometimes SAND and ROCKS) I think it's very common and people here believe that you should get to your wife whatever she wants during that process or she will start getting anxiety and otherwise risking the baby's future .

I have a math learning disability, but it's not dyscalculia. Numbers don't get mixed up in my head, I just can't do math past basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication. I thought my cousin had matured since they’re 16 years old now. They have lots of small issues, like they get anxious sometimes and they don’t always understand high school level math. The amount of disorders they’ve diagnosed for themselves is diabolical. I’m not diagnosed with OCD, but I have lots of symptoms that genuinely affect my life. I can’t look in mirrors or drive a car because of my compulsive behaviours. My cousin claimed they also have OCD because they need things to be arranged. It honestly made my blood boil. I can’t say if they actually do have the disorder or not, but I’m guessing they Googled symptoms and went on from there. We were in the same class in school, it was a special needs class, because we both suffer from anxiety. 9th grade math was really hard for me, but I tried to learn, and even if I didn’t learn it all, I passed with okay grades. My cousin, on the other hand, didn’t understand about as much as I didn’t, and claimed they had Dyscalculia. It was 9th grade math. They could learn it with the help of our teacher, it just took a little time. They passed with good grades. But they couldn’t understand hard calculations including letters immediately and assumed they have a learning disability. Honestly I couldn’t have known if they actually had a learning disability, but not knowing one type of calculation ≠ disability. They also thought they were autistic. Got tested, nope. ADHD, is getting tested currently, although shows 0 symptoms of being restless in any way. Motion sickness because they were tired and experienced vertigo one singular time. Tons of physical diseases or conditions based on one temporary symptom. Our teacher has had to go through every single one of their self-diagnosed phases and was tired of it. Understandably. Honestly I think it’s a disorder in and of itself trying to constantly find a name for whatever’s wrong with them. And I think they wanted attention, not that there’s anything wrong with wanting attention. And I feel bad for them. But also angry that they can’t understand why it’s so harmful to diagnose themselves off of Google. I still think they should seek therapy. I love them anyway though.

@@elineedstofocus It could be. They don’t really seem concerned though, they just speculate and always have the need to have a name for something. Summer break started and they’re excited about about going to high school and they haven’t been self-diagnosing lately, I think it was the stress.

Pica is the only one I’ve actually heard of before, I have a friend with Pica that sometimes randomly expresses their need to eat certain things, it’s not very extreme and they don’t eat super weird stuff (they hold back the urge to do so) but they told me that when they were younger they would sometimes eat random stuff because they hadn’t developed that filter of what is actually safe to eat and what isn’t. And all of that has gotten them into really dangerous situations before but I’m proud to say they are alive and (physically) well! :)

I actually have severe Ekbom Syndrome due to an old bedbug infestation that left me anemic for a long while and it is nothing short of Hell, because you know when you scratch or check for bugs, nine times out of ten there will be nothing there, and yet it doesn't make the itch go away. Seeing them, especially in the dark or out of the corner of your eye, is a suicidal experience.

Me who genuinely kinda wants my leg to be removed to i can get a cool cyborg leg and maybe a peg leg to wear on the beach: *maybe i am mentally ill* Boanthropy is just a cow therian taken to its extreme Only diffrence is when its a 14 year old deciding they are a fox and running into traffic because they "shifted" its normal And when someone starts acting like a cow (pretty harmless, but the family is likely a bit uncomfortable, which happens with therians too) its a mental disorder I dont really understand that tbh
