I’m glad you mentioned dyslexia, as it is often ignored or forgotten, but I wish you touched on more of how it is seen in adults. Everyone always tells me “that is just something kids have”, but language disorders can affect all parts of language. I learned to read faster and at a higher level than other kids (because the way I was taught was being read to aloud while having the words pointed to) so people thought I couldn’t be dyslexic. But people with dyslexia have difficulty learning second languages, have bad hand-eye coordination, can’t differentiate left from right, have better spatial reasoning and mental imagery, and can forget words that they know when speaking. It is like your first language is actually instead your third language that you just recently learned. It is in general like having a ton of thoughts in your brain, but instead of just being able to say them, you have to pull out a translation book, spending so much energy translating that often causes you to forget what you were even saying in the first place. It makes socialization incredibly exhausting.

@@RealVviperX you are correct in some cases. I can tell when people fake depression, and they don't understand what it's really like. You can't "control" your depression. It's my brain constantly telling me I'm not good enough/people don't like me, ect. And it doesn't stop. Ever. It's loudest when I'm trying to sleep. I almost feel threatened by the standards of society nowadays, just trying to keep up. I mold my emotions just to hide the fact that I'm not okay. I hardly talk to anyone. Some people take it too lightly, and yes, there are a lot of teens who fake for attention. But not all of us are fake.

if you have depression or something similar to it please read this: in the summer of 6th going into 7th grade i moved back to america from germany (i lived in america till i was 9) i loved it so much in germany and had so many amazing friends. i fit in and was extremely popular, as soon as i moved back everything just changed. i lived with my cousins from a couple months and they would drive me NUTS. they would wake me up at 7 in the morning so i would play with them and just wayyy to much. eventually i started school and where i lived 7th grade was the start of middle school. i walked in and since i knew a couple of people already i said hi to them but they kinda just ignored me. i started feeling very lonely that day even though i’m normally a very extroverted person. i met this one girl and she was really nice i just didn’t really click with her. i came home crying to my mom saying how much i missed germany and i just wanted to go home. i went through some really traumatic stuff for 12-13 year old me from some really mean girls who pretended to be my friends, i eventually fell into a deep state of depression. i would miss multiple days of school on end and when i was at a school i wouldn’t pay attention, was very un-social and just not motivated to do anything what so ever. i felt so lost in life. although many people with depression have s**cidal thought i was not one of those people. all i could think was “i wish i wasn’t ever born” not “i want to unalive myself”. i ended up making some really great friends and sorta became myself again with them but as soon as i came home it was back to the depression. for 3 days i barely ate, got out of bed (except to use the bathroom) or spoke at all. my mom became extremely worried about me and immediately rushed me to the ER so i could get some help. as soon as i got there they automatically assumed i was s**cidal and brought me to the psych ward where they put me until my mom came back from putting her keys in a locker. it was terrifying. i was next to a room with a man who was just standing there. he didn’t move that whole time. across the hall there was a room with this girl who looked about 19 and she was standing there staring at me just staring kinda smiling creepily. i look over to my left and see this room that is made out of metal and 3 huge security guards walk into it and i just hear like really weird voices and u get the point it was terrifying for a 12 year old. my mom finally walks in and i just start crying. like balling my eyes out and she does too. for 6 hours i was in the ER with people literally dying around me. this is not an exaggeration like i heard flatlining and crying and it just wasn’t good at all. from there i got assigned a psychiatrist who gave me my medication and is just so sweet. i still work with her now. i slowly started getting better and not relapsing as often. this whole thing was almost 3 years ago. which even typing out is insane, i’m currently in my freshman year of high school and i’m proud to say i’ve only missed 2 days because of my depression so far. this is such an improvement for me but it still proves i have my episodes. i promise it gets better, it seems like the world is just getting sadder and darker but i pinki promise it’s going to improve don’t give up yet please. i really hope this message helps someone please reach out to a doctor if you feel s**cidal or even just were like me and not having the will to live. i’m now on medication which helps so much and it really is so much better for my life. if your having s**cidal thoughts please call this hotline and don’t give up: 988 find someone who supports you. my mom was that person, if it weren’t for her i don’t actually know if i would be here to type this message. if you don’t have anyone just talk to me in the comments. i love you so much.

As an autistic person, I highly appreciate your evaluation on autism! I love that you acknowledged the whole spectrum. At first, I was afraid that this was going to be another “autistics are prodigies” sort of thing. But then you acknowledged that some autistic people struggle in aspects that we’re expected to be good at, and I felt relieved. Plus, I don’t really see acknowledgment of both non-verbal and hyper-verbal people when talking about the autism spectrum often so it was a pleasant surprise :) I also appreciate that you didn’t use the puzzle piece for autism, instead using it for OCD. I also have OCD and I feel like the puzzle piece for OCD is a much better fit. With OCD, every compulsion done must be perfect like puzzle pieces fitting together. With intrusive thoughts focusing on morality and harm, mental compulsions have you constantly evaluating your actions, feelings, and thoughts, leaving you confused and lost on who you really are. It’s like a piece of you is missing and you’re trying to find the lost piece, much like a puzzle.

@@eglol With such a person you need to choose what topics to talk about. My uncle is a nurse and a driver where heavy fighting takes place, and when he comes home he can listen to one song for half an hour, and from any topic switch to “you feel good here, but bad there. You don’t understand anything.” There was a case when he was given a phone for his birthday so that he could keep in touch with us, but later he broke his mother’s phone and burned his own at the stake, fearing that he would be bugged. I don’t have PTSD but I do have trauma. Just some stuff from when I was younger, like my dad used to hit me and stuff like that (also being undiagnosed autistic because yeah that can be traumatic). And a small list of stuff that kinda affects me still: loud noises, sudden movement, sudden touch, arguing, people getting really angry, not having any personal space and threats. I know it’s not the same, and I don’t want to be bashed for it. Also, my mom has PTSD so I know how hard it is to deal with.

The anxiety one is so real. People have asked me plenty of times, "why do you get nervous about that? Just go and do it" but they really dont understand. Even the simplest thing like a teacher calling my name and everyone suddenly looking at me makes me flinch, my heart actually stops beating, my palms get sweaty, my body temperature actually goes down,my hand begins to shake and I can't breathe at all. Sometimes, I don't even need to be doing anything and suddenly I find it hard to breathe and I can't stay at ease. Surprisingly while its so hard for me to talk publicly, I'm known for anchoring, giving speeches and explaining topics ☠️. I do get praised alot for it. Its really ironic but before I go and actually do it, I feel nauseous and I feel like I want to go to the bathroom. Also while presenting, the nervousness can easily be seen through my face or when I hide my hands at my back and fidget. Life is indeed pretty hard with anxiety 🥲

Interestingly enough, this is an actual phenomenon that people who learn about mental disorders experience. Many people who begin to learn about mental disorders and their symptoms may begin to identify with the symptoms associated with the disorder. This is why self diagnosis for most mental disorders isn't healthy. although, if you do think you may have a mental disorder, talk with a doctor about it. Many symptoms of mental disorders, especially the more common ones, are things people experience often. It's when the symptoms become recurrent and affect a person's everyday behavior that it enters mental disorder territory.

It sounds weird but I desperately want an abnormality? I want to know who I am, why I am, and overall just some closure. But I have focused my life so much on this all that what if in the end it was all for nothing? or I won't get the satisfaction I so desire of proving myself right? The anxiety explanation was good. As someone who has anxiety, it's personally hard for me to do anything in a public setting. For instance, getting up to present a project in front of your class may seem scary to normal people, but for me, my heart starts racing, I get really sweaty, and when I'm presenting, my face turns extremely red, and I talk so fast, you could compare me to Eminem. It's very possible to cope with this, as I've gotten better at it, but it is and will always be terrifying; the way I decide to cope with it is to try to think, as put in the video with the bear chasing you, I pretend the bear isnt there, even though in my head I'm literally in its jaw. It isn't perfect, but it has helped me come out of my shell. Also, if you know someone with anxiety, don't joke about them being super quiet. It really makes the person feel much more away from the group.

You don't have compulsive behaviors outside of your head, but you ruminate on your intrusive thoughts and obsess over the fear that you're secretly a bad person. The intrusive thoughts might be about sexual taboos that disgust you, or about violence, or about going against your religion, or anything else that is shocking to you. You're scared that the thoughts are the truth about you, you test yourself inside your mind and try to check and double-check that you're not actually a bad person. It's pretty hellish.

I can confirm. Religious OCD, or scrupulosity, was something I struggled with quite badly for a few years. It's like a non-stop argument against yourself. It got to the point where I was reciting a three minute long argument against myself as if it were a call/response game, which worked until something would cause a counterargument to my points, making it so I would spend hours researching an argument against THAT counterpoint, and add that to the call/response argument I constantly had. It's a miracle that it calmed down eventually, which I am seriously grateful for.

"But-What-If" stems from a relentless gaslighting parental figure. The only one who was ever so persistent in creating image-based paranoia in me was my narcissistic mother, who had all the disorders. The worst part was growing up having to disprove the false accusations, the "But-What-Ifs" that would come whenever she saw any indication that there was nothing to worry about, and then, gradually, seeing myself slowly become like her. Put her soul to rest and mine also. No one deserves to sleep on a bed of dread.

Autism spectrum disorder doesn’t just impact social interaction. It also makes a person very sensitive to sounds and sensory stimuli. as somebody who has bipolar, the explanation for bipolar is inaccurate. While there is rapid cycling (cycling through more then 4 episode of manic and deppressive episode per year) or ultra-rapid cycling, or mixed episode, but the main symptom of hypomania and mania must last for more than ~5 days AND leads to a disruptive lifestyle (Insomnia, hallucinations, impulsiveness, rapid speech and thought cycles, restlessness, ect) and deppressive episode lasting more than 5 days. Before bipolar is ruled, you usually check for your hormone imbalance (and rule out hyper/hypothyroidism), monitor your feelings/moods, and also look into a family history of mental illness. Its a long and complicated process to get diagnosed, but if you relate to this try asking a professional the possibility of this being your diagnosis. (even tho its a pain in the ass, it's really worth it to be diagnosed with it if you have it.) I know this is probably a lot more detailed, since this vid is just a stupid lil video that oversimplifies mental illnesses, but I wanna spread bipolar awareness, because its more common than you think, and to do my part and reduce misinformation ❤️. Im not a doctor, just some fucked up gal who's in and out of psychiatric wards xd. I hope yall have a great day!❤️

Bipolar disorder is a severely misunderstood disorder, so I wanted to quickly add more in the comments! 1.) While we experience extreme highs and lows, they're not always in the rapid succession that the rollercoaster metaphor (and how most bipolar media tropes) typically portrays. Mania episodes last one to two weeks, and hypo-mania lasts at least four days straight, so it's not only a constant up and down between mania and depression. 2.) "Mixed episodes" are episodes that are both manic and depressive at the same time, or within quick succession of the other (think within the same day or hour) and is most commonly represented. (These are the episodes I have the most, about once a year.) 3.) Manic or manic-depressive episodes are also infrequent, with most pw/bipolar having maybe one or two a year, with four or more in a year being "rapid cycling." 4.) There are -two- three distinct bipolar diagnosis, Bipolar I and Bipolar II, and both can have specifications, such as having rapid cycling, mixed episodes, or psychotic features. Bipolar I requires someone to experience at least one manic episodes, which is frequently preceded and/or followed with depressive episodes. Bipolar II requires someone to experience at least one depressive and one hypo-manic episode. Edit to add: Cyclothymia is another bipolar diagnosis where someone has mild depressive and hypomanic episodes. Keep in mind that this is information may change or be slightly different in other countries. I'm basing this off of the United States' DSM-V.

Yes, some say the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) has been overrated, with criticisms including: Expanding diagnosis Some say that the DSM-5 has expanded diagnoses beyond what is reasonable, which could threaten the validity of psychiatric research. For example, the DSM-5 increased symptom options for substance use disorder while lowering the diagnostic threshold, and it allows verbal arguments as evidence of intermittent explosive disorder. Ignoring underlying causes Some say that the DSM-5 focuses on more obvious symptoms while ignoring underlying causes. It also has a Western perspective that may view mental illness in behaviors that are considered normal in other cultures. Lack of patient and public perspectives Some say that the DSM-5 lacks the perspectives of patients and the public when it comes to mental illness diagnoses. Biased process Some say that the DSM-5 process was biased and reflected the views of those working on it, rather than a balanced assessment of scientific support. For example, some say that the literature reviews were poor quality and didn't meet widely accepted standards. Premature release Some say that the DSM-5 was rushed to print to meet sales goals, and that quality control was sacrificed in the process😊

Same lmao. I was a highly anxious child, got diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and severe OCD when I was 6-8 years old (I am 16 now). But my symptoms started appearing when I was in kindergarten. This video felt like a personal attack lmao. But at the same time, I’m grateful that some good rep is out there

@@kolo167 no, these are all a genuine struggle for me. Most of them stemmed from severe trauma and abuse from when I was really little, and few from genetics (ADHD & Bipolar disorder), so no, not "quirky 🤪". Having mental disorders isn't a joke, so please stop making fun of it, and from what I can tell, I'm guessing you're assuming I'm saying this for attention, but I would like to make it clear that I was just relating to the video and hoping that other people could relate to what I'm going through. Respectfully, try to be respectful and think before you say stuff like that.

As someone on the autistic spectrum, I actually really like how you described it and actually acknowledged it as a spectrum, rather than taking one of the stereotypical views of us either all being prodigies or us all being incredibly stupid. It may manifest like that for some, but it's hardly a case of one size fits all, it's called a spectrum for a reason and I like that you acknowledged that.

As an autistic person, I must thank you for explaining it properly instead of saying were all idiots and suck at social interaction because we dont try. Plenty of people I have met have that misconception and it gets very annoying when they see anyone swinging their arms or fidgeting and say their autistic

Yup. I’m also on the spectrum and it REALLY pisses me off when people stereotype autistic people like that. They gotta remember that it’s a SPECTRUM, not just one, singular symptom.

As someone with schizophrenia, it feels like a cocktail of paranoia, adhd, autism, anxiety and depression… Which is the reason I went from diagnosis to diagnosis, accumulating more and more as time went on, to suddenly one psychiatrist recognized something in me that none other had… It was schizophrenia. Now it makes so much sense. My psychiatrists (been through a few during the years bc of the psychiatric centre I go to changing employees) told me that I basically still have all of those disorders, they are just now encapsulated under one disorder’s name

That mix sounds like what I deal with, although my parents refuse to get me therapy, it's not constant and was worse when I was in middle school but I used to have all sorts of hallucinations about being watched, like a old man in my closet, bed, or at my window, or monsters on the ceiling or bus watching me and holding a knife to my neck (i managed to get some help through various people so i dont feel like that as often) I can't fully trust people because of a constant worry and belief that they're all liars out to get me, many of my friends say I likely have adhd and I have struggled with depression since fourth grade, currently the only frequent hallucination is a chain around my neck that oftentimes makes it hard to breathe

@@burntchaos7260 I’m not a doctor, but I know myself and I’ve met other people at the psychiatric center that has schizophrenia and I must say that what you describe sounds like a schizophrenic illness of sorts. There’s a whole spectrum of disorders with psychosis symptoms, but since you say you experience symptoms of paranoia, hallucinations, adhd, autism, anxiety and depression, it does seem like the classic schizophrenia cocktail. I’m sorry your parents don’t want to get you therapy. I don’t know if you live in a country that has free healthcare, but if you do, would it be possible to seek help secretly? Like make an appointment at the doctors without your parents if that’s possible and see from there if they can refer you to a psychiatrist. However I haven’t had to hold it a secret from my own parents, so it might be too difficult, I don’t know. Perhaps you could get a referral and then tell your parents. But if you’re in the US, I don’t know what you can do.

@That1KZbinCommenter Thank you 😊 It definitely felt a bit odd ‘losing’ my other illnesses, but I eventually learned in therapy that one illness can encompass many others and that was the case with my own illness. It is a struggle, but with meds and therapy it’s manageable a lot more. I’ve heard borderline is also a hard one to deal with. Lots of love 🌿

I have asd, but instead of being brushed off as a weird person, I got an even worse fate. I was misdiagnosed as adhd and put on stimulants. All those things ever did to me is fill me with anxiety. I was even rushed to the hospital twice in the span of a few weeks because my anxiety attacks could be mistaken for seizures. Thankfully I was properly diagnosed shortly after.
