I have had it for about two weeks. Focus has really not been much of an issue for me. I actually use a USB C to Lightening cable and plug it in from bottom of the Osmo and once I set my shutter, ISO etc, I use the camera and have the phone in my other hand but with the cord it gives me lots of freedom to concentrate on what I want to film, and look at anything I need to on the phone or change settings on the fly without it needing to be connected right up against the phone. So far that has really worked well for me. I shoot at 4k 24P and so far the footage has been pretty amazing. Got the wheel and holder today and getting the wireless mount Monday. Look forward to playing around with it. I am going to Europe in March and will be using this a lot. Oh - and adding ND filters ( got the Freewell ones) gives you amazing footage. It actually seems to really help with the richness of the image and I think it helps the focus stay calmer. Not as much hunting.

@@TheEverydayDad You can use the Osmo Pocket today as a fix focus camera. Set the Osmo to AFS Mode and focus to a subject in hyperfocal distance to the camera. That's how you get the biggest possible deep of field with infinity focus. And no more focus problems like focus hunting. Yes it would be nice if in one of the next firmware version is a preset for that purpose or a focus peaking option.

March 11 follow-up: Since the firmware update, I don't hear any more complaints about the auto-focus. But today was a big day for me because DJI finally let me order and pay for the mic adapter. They promise to ship in 1-2 days. Lots of reviewers have reviewed the Pocket from the standpoint of a vlog camera. Others have reviewed it as an action cam. The smart money is on -- it's neither. It's a tiny, light, unobtrusive, simple, powerful, video and photo camera with an uber-stable gimbal. For travelers like me, it's a paradigm changer. No more do I see a place mostly through a viewfinder or a 4-inch screen. No longer do I need to freeze into immobility to take a shot. No more do I need to be hung with equipment like a one-man Rick Steeves crew.
@RickyisHere5 жыл бұрын
I went on a Disney Cruise and I used a GH5...I also brought a Moza AirCross and I used the GH5 with the gimbal only 3 times on a 7 day cruise!! I didn’t filmed during our restaurant meals because the gimbal/camera combo was ridiculous, even on the pool area people were giving me the “evil look” when they saw me caring the camera/gimbal. I will be back on another Disney cruise next winter and the OP solved most problems I had with portability when traveling and stealthy video recording.
@GeraldBertramPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Having infinity focus you would think would be a no brainer. Like DJI should have known this and had it on the camera at release...unless the issue is that it CAN'T do it. Hopefully that's not the case and a firmware update can address the focus issue. For the price you are paying for this device this kind of glaring issue shouldn't be there. If they overcome that whole focus pulsing thing, I think DJI has got a real winner on their hands.

I agree, I hope there would be a way because it’s really the only thing holding it back 👍

@@GeraldBertramPhotography This. :( My first Phantom 4 remote had the notorious charging problem. I sent it in under warranty (no DJI care), and after going back and forth for over a month, they finally shipped me a replacement. It was a refurb, and couldn't transmit more than about 100'. I almost lost my P4 in tree cover. They refused to replace that one, even under warranty, so I bought an antenna kit for it and replaced the stock antennas. That did the trick, so it was probably a faulty antenna cable, which means they didn't even test it before shipping it out.

How is the audio? Being a clear attempt to create a vlogging camera with that front facing screen, is the audio good? One thing that no one on these reviews mentions is the very loud audio beep when the shutter button is pressed. There over 80 people on DJI's website complaining about the beep when recording video and the double beep when stopping the video. On all modern phones and cameras you can turn all the audio beeps off in this respect the pocket is years behind. For me unless they fix this issue via firmware my pocket along with many others will end up on eBay. I think if the beep issue was pointed out in the reviews it would greatly affect the sales of the pocket.

AFS (Auto Focus Single) for shots where the thing or person you want to shoot is not moving (too much), is better than AFC. If the subject is moving (little or a lot), the audience wont notice the focus warping.. that much.. i think.. but at least AFS for steady shots where you keep your thing or person still or at the same distance is good. Its kind of to small focus point when you tap the screen on the Osmo Pocket, so it could take a few attempts to get it right..

I'd have to agree with you, if your video goes out of focus, your video clips become unusable. What is even worse is if you don't find out about it until you get home. That just pisses you off, cause you wasted alot of your time. My opinion is that if you're going to pay money for a product, it has to work, it just has to. I've used my Canon camcorder in manual focus mode where I made the mistake of switching scenes without re-setting the focus again, and I got blurry video. However, that was my fault for not using the camera properly. But if you are in auto-focus mode, the camera has to work. it just has to.

@ksmackvolleyball5 жыл бұрын
@@JudoSurfer That's too bad, cause you are paying money for it. Any device or gadget you buy needs to be able to work perfectly, right out of the box. Can you imagine buying a new car and when you try to start it, noting happens. And the manufacturer says "Yeah, there are a few bugs in the ignition system we're still trying to work out." I'd say everyone would consider that unacceptable. So if everyone feels that way about cars, why not cameras?

The auto focus is fine if your subject is close-up and centered. But if you are a Pro, and you want to use this to make a panning time lapse, you have no way to keep it in focus. The AFContinuous and AFSingle are your only choices for focus control. So why did they leave manual focus off of this device? If it had manual focus, it could be locked at the hyperfocal distance and with a sensor this small, everything would be in focus from about 2 feet to infinity all the time. This would alleviate almost all of the focus problems everyone is experiencing. I believe they left manual focus off of the Osmo Pocket for the same reason they left out a tripod mount; so that it would not obsolete their more expensive Pro models (they don't want Pros to buy/like this model). DJI needs to stop letting the marketing people and corporate committees design their products, and start building the BEST product they possibly can. In this case, to make it the best it could be: 1. put a tripod mount on it. 2. Put wireless networking inside. 3. Make manual focus an option 4. Make the battery removable. 5. Make the tiny screen menus more sensible so you can find the manual exposure settings without a master’s degree. 6. Attach the laniard to the Osmo Pocket, not to the stupid case! 7. Make the case accept the device when dongles are attached.

Really good plus and minus video, I don't like are only 5 min video clips. It can be done in Adobe, but sometimes you just want to transfer them give someone ... and they are only 5 min long ! Other than that, good video. We are all lucky to enjoy new devices, so let's do that :)

First version is aways a test version. I'll wait for the second version or may be third.

Awesome video. GP Hero 7 for me. I feel DJI gave us a half baked camera full of shortcomings. Sometimes you only have one chance to get right shot and having a camera with these shortcomings is not worth missing that money shot. No doubt the osmo pocket is a revolutionary product, but why settle for poor audio and autofocus. Until then, my GoPro rocks.

Would you still recommend GP Hero 7 if you will be using the camera for video recording during your vacation (being handled by variety of people not educated enough with electronics - mom/dad) or would the Osmo Pocket 3 be better?
@timgalletas38565 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Matthew the GoPro 7 is a great choice for this type of scenario. What you see on the screen that’s what you get. You don’t need your phone plugged in to frame your shot or to access most settings. If the camera is going to be used by several people I suggest the GoPro because if they drop it or if it gets wet, it will survive. The Osmo Pocket on the other hand, is fragile and is not water proof unless you get a water housing. Anyways, with a GoPro you press the record button and start recording. You can replace the battery anytime when needed. With the Osmo Pocket, you’re limited to less than 2 hours and if they are away from a charger, it means no video to capture. For a keep it simple stupid scenario, the GoPro is the way to go.

well it's also the first one lol. GP7 is just that....the 7th installment. For now, it's definitely revolutionary. I'll probably pickup the Osmo during it's 2nd or 3rd installment.

This is the 3rd installment, it’s just the smallest one. Osmo, osmo+, and osmo Pro all came before the pocket 👍

Cool stuff. Yeah, those small screens can be a buttbiter! Same with my dashcam, can’t see much on the screen. Gotta take the micro SD card out to review footage. That’s why I lose them!

Yeah I’ve had a tendency to lose a Microsd card or two myself 🤣

I sold my old Dji Osmo plus because of the use of the phone and yes the focusing problem so i'am not interesting to the Fragile Osmo Pocket . And that's why i choose the Gorpo Hero 7black instead

Thanks for many review of this osmo pocket, I'm ending buying GoPro Hero 7 black for durability and lots of accessories, Osmo maybe end this year or not buying it, my Asus Zenfone AR are more better in video recording just add extra microphone ( Rode)

Might need to treat the battery like drone batteries and deep cycle every so often to keep the life decent.

I actually like it a lot, but I'm a simple man lol. There was a firmware update a couple days ago and I know focus was addressed but I haven't really tested it to talk about it. My big thing is lack of external audio. Hopefully coming soon.
