Thanks for your interesting and very knowledgeable reviews. I have been following your reviews for a long time. I am 75 and have owned many different systems, and because of my Parkinson’s, I have returned to micro 4/3, the Sony A7RII and A7III have incredible results, the full frame is too heavy for me to use regularly. I see the DJI 4 has improved an impressive amount. My wife needs material and video selfies to promote her books. I thank you for showing me how easy it would be to use the Action 4, as weight and ease of use are important.

I just bought the Hero 12. I had a 10 and it kept glitching and overheating. I hope the 12 is better! I can’t bring myself to switch to DJI, I’m very used to GoPro and I like the picture quality. But I guess I’ll change eventually, the size and low light ability is better on DJI.

Thanks! Great review as usual! I want to purchase the action 4 but I am on the fence because of its much wider field of view. I just do not like to shoot with such a wide angel while filming my activities, because any person in the frame seems much smaller. Is there a workaround for this? What is the next step down on the field of view? How much resolution loss will I suffer if I chose the narrower field of view? Thanks for any feedback on this.

they do narrow at 2.7k ,but I never see anyone on youtube upload dji osmo4 footage at 2.7k ( narrow )

Thanks for your review. I prefer my footage with as little fish-eye effect as possible so that straight objects like poles at the edge of the frame appear as straight as possible. Which of these two devices would be best for that?

Thanks for the vídeo! If I have to choose one, would be the Action 4. Now I have the Action 2 and the experience has been better than expected, everything works ok, the firmware updates has been great to give more functionalities. I hope in the future DJI will take the leap and make a mirrorless camera with L mount. They are part of L mount alliance, they have good menus and user interface, they have very good image treatment processing. DJI could be a good competition for traditional brands. But I don't know if entering the mirrorless camera market would be financially good idea for DJI...

Thank you for the informative video. Going with the DJI as my experience with GoPro durability has been poor and the low -light performance of the DJI is important to my use case. Also, the DJI drone, Mini 4, is a likely future purchase and I like having consistency between video platforms. Always appreciate your opinion.

The Action 4 does almost everything better than the Gopro 12 except for video quality. Gopro 12 video quality and clarity is top notch.

I can't find any videos. is the GoPro 7 worth it or an upgrade to the Action 4 is suggested? the tabs on the GoPro 7 batteries keep on falling off or removing. has happened on 2 OEM GoPro batteries and 3 aftermarket.

Hero 7 has been discontinued many years ago, so I can’t really answer that question. OA4 would be a big upgrade.

The greatest advantage which wasn't mentioned but visible in some samples of GoPro 12 is much less distortion. Action 4 has much more distortion than GoPro 12. Thanks for review!

Not really, it is just a property of the narrower default FoV setting on the GoPro. If you use superview on the GoPro to match the FoV of the Action 4, there is actually more distortion on the GoPro. That is why I said that the work best at 11 / 16mm respectively.

At 6:10 you must have mixed the titles, as the left image is much sharper and detailed while right image is extremely mushy (for example the 50-sign is unreadable on right while perfectly clear on left, and people crossing the street are shown in much higher quality on left), which doesn't align what is said in voiceover. I viewed this on 48" 4K screen.

No, labels are correct. GoPro helps itself in certain, let's say semi-lit situations, by using lower exposure. It works well in some scene, but it makes other scenes almost black. 50-sign is unreadable because DJI uses brighter exposure, not because it captures less detail. Much like with the local tone mapping, approach to the low light exposure is a matter of preference.

There is no way that GoPro is so overexposed. I have a GoPro 10 and it has such a better image than the way you are portraying the GoPro 12. It’s very difficult for me to think that you are not being biased and intentionally overexposed the footage for the GoPro. That means just no way I do not believe you didn’t do that intentionally.

That is ridiculous. I have even explained why it is happening. The reason why it is more visible in my footage is that this is a review, so some scenes are intentionally showing how it behaves in extreme situations, where it is the visible the most. Footage from both camera in this video is not color graded in any way. Take a look at my iPhone 15 Pro camera review, same issues with local tone mapping are described there…
