I’m still recommending the M1 air to a lot of people because of how well it works for me for video editing however the m2 air is phenomenal and is definitely worth the extra €300 over the m1 model if someone can afford it

I was excited when M2 MacBook Air was first announced, but going by reviews about chip being a letdown when it comes to power consumption, NAND slot accommodating just 1 SSD to save costs, thermal issues... I'm heavily in favour of buying M1 MacBook Air. I'll still wait for Air reviews after 15th, but I'm sure they'll be not good enough. I currently own a base model of 2019 Macbook Air, and will probably exchange it for M1 Air (16gb/512gb) and save money and retain performance.

I'd get the M1 if I were in the market for a 13. What I'd like to see is an Air 15 with 3 nm process. Maybe we get it in 2023. I am still using my 2015 MacBook Pro 15 as a backup for my 2021 MacBook Pro 16. The 2015 is still great - the only downside of it is thermals under load, especially hooked up to a 4k monitor. The M2 models have two slots, it's just that they only put one larger chip in it. I think that you can get around the problem with 512 GB.

I’m interested to see your review of the base M2 air. I think Apple may have attempted to cut cost a little too much and over charged for a machine with a few problems. Even though most won’t experience the problems, people pay a premium for their products and problems shouldn’t exist. Cautiously optimistic.
@Metamine02 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I get that most people won't need storage to be as fast as having two NAND chips instead of one, but consider the prices we're paying here. At 1200 bucks, we get slower storage than the M1 Air, still can't connect to more than 1 monitor, and only 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of storage, not to mention a lower end M2. All it really has is the better design. Most people are better off getting a M1 Air and speccing it to their needs

Right on! That is exactly what I did! I have the Apple 14" with M1 Pro with 16Gb/512Gb and so far it is holding extremely well to all big tasks (e.g. coding, video editing). The Air will be the traveling day-t-day computer and the basic one should do well for the 99% of the users.

Having *zero* moving parts is a huge deal. This is something that early reviewers skip and 99% of consumers don't appreciate/understand. Over and above the obvious advantage of absolutely silent operation with no exceptions, there is the fact that when it comes to the longevity of a device, having no moving parts, having no possibility of mechanical failure (except for keys and the hinge) and having no dust build-up ever, is a magnificent win. If you can possibly get by with an Air, you should choose it over a Pro. Do you really have the kind of sustained workloads that will cause it to throttle? Will you even notice? For the practical home/family user, it could be fine for ten years. For a professional, it may well be fine for five years. It's true about the two screens though. I love having one Apple 5K Studio Display, but many professionals will want a second monitor.

Yes just preordered the base model. We can’t forget that the whole point of the Air was to get an inexpensive laptop that can get your basic necessities done along with a couple pro activities. @Gilamath.2 жыл бұрын
In fairness, $200 buys you a more powerful chip with better graphics performance, a larger screen with better pixel density and brightness, MagSafe (which basically gives you an extra USB-C port), and aesthetic stuff like the new colors and design. I'm keeping my M1 MacBook Air, but if I were buying today, I'd say the extra $200 is justified and would pretty buy the M2 Air over the M1
@Ryan1521032 жыл бұрын
@@Gilamath. You will actually have to spend an extra $100 to get the actual M2 chip that they advertised. The M2 base model chip performs just like the M1 cause it’s 8 cores rather than 10 that’s on the M2. So really it’s an extra $300 to get the actual M2 chip. The base model is just an upgraded design and camera, so yes you do get those perks which are nice. But you won’t get the M2 chip performance that Apple advertised. You will have to spend the extra $100, in addition to the $150+ Apple tax.

You always unabashedly praise apple that even for the marketing gimmick of naming 13’ MacBook pro a “pro” it’s not apple’s fault for making it this way, it’s the customer’s fault for not knowing this is a gimmick.

I have a MacBook Air intel i3 256.. So here is the thing I have not one time had any issues with this laptop. I do everyday task and do a lot of music production on the laptop. Not into video editing or anything like that. Now my memory is just about full and I do use external memory. But Everyday Dad my question is this with what I told you I pretty much do on this laptop do u think its necessary to get the M2.. I heard that apple is going to faze out the intel due to the M1 and M2 processors.. I'm just so on the fence cause I love my intel laptop but I kinda feel I want a little more cause when I got this M1 came out right after and I just got the Intel. M1 or M2 I'm really confuse or just keep my great working Intel lol??? But one thing tho I do hate that fan noise tho lol.. Please help I don't know what I should do !

Went with 16bGb/1TB. Coming from a Surface Book 2 with 512GB and find that's not enough storage. Hate carrying around extra drives. Was contemplating the MBP 14. Prefer the smaller form factor. Don't like lugging around a bulky laptop. Just sad to miss out on the 120hz screen and extra ports :(

Is 16/256 good enough? For my SSD, I will buy external drives.
@pupsicle012 жыл бұрын
Actually 8/256 is good enough for most people. But if you do some intensive tasks, or you just want to future-proof your laptop then 16/256 will be more than enough. :)

@@pupsicle01 thanks for the suggestion. Actually this will be my first Apple device and I am planning to future-proof it. So will probably invest a bit more and opt for the 16/256 variant. Will get some external SSD's (Samsung T5/T7). Not sure about the color. Any suggestions?

Was really looking into this until I found out the screen refresh rate is standard 60hz, my iPad pro is 120hz and everything else I have now is at least 120hz. It's hard to go back to 60hz, even today I got my old phone to use as a monitor for a baby camera and it felt horrible to use.

I had purchased 2 MacBook Airs for our house and loved them. However, I have fallen in love with Apple that I got the 14 Inch MacBook Pro and I am using it for nearly everything. I am using a Mac mini for work and it is faster than my $2000 Desktop with a I7-11700KF Processor, RTX 3060 and 64GB RAM. I won't be getting the new MacBook Air but I am almost always Mac now.

As a college student, I do a lot of zoom calls, web browsing with at least 10 chrome tabs open, and watch youtube videos all the time. I have had a terrible experience with the intel macbooks getting hot super quickly. From your experience with the M1 air, do you think the M2 air fanless design will cause it to get warm easily?
@pupsicle012 жыл бұрын
The new apple silcon chips are known not to get extremely hot unless you are just completely wrecking your laptop with the most intensive things you can think of. So with your workflow, I think you will have no problem with the MacBook getting to hot.
