It's good to know that audio levels show up on the preview screen. Do the levels stay visible while recording? (knowing Canon, probably not... lol). Overall the camera's grip, especially with the extender, and general ergonomics looks really nice. It's irritating they hold back features like 24fps in 1080p, but once this thing has been out a while the price drop should be nice.

I was at a Best Buy looking at the 6d2 and 5D4 out of curiosity shortly before this was announced. I started to get excited about this for entry level full frame photography. Then I realized my needs / wants would not be fully met with the RP (or 6d2). Although on the video side, I generally shoot 30 - 60 fps and rarely shoot 4k...but 4k is tempting me hardcore for flexibility in post. I do think there is a large market for the RP. That market is not experienced youtube creators in general. Can't wait to see more from you. One aspect I'm very curious about is performance vs the M50.

Hi Gary, nice first look at the Canon EOS RP. Being a Canon 35mm and DSLR owner for over 40 years, it's nice to see what Canon is doing in today's camera wars. As for Canon and their "L" Glass, it has always been at the top and award winner, just DANG expensive. I have seen PRO photographers carrying 2 or 3 cameras around their necks, so you need a strap when you are in the multi-camera mode. Personally, while I have a strap on my camera, it mainly gets in the way. However, there are times when I set my camera down on something high, and I worry it will fall off. That's when I'm happy I have a strap to wrap around something so it won't hit the ground if it falls off.
@ksmackvolleyball5 жыл бұрын
I know you are a video guy, but I was very interested to see how good this camera was at taking photos. Ah yes, "the strap". I have a strap on my current Canon camera. In most cases, I find it mainly gets in the way. However, there are times I will lay my camera down on the side of a bridge railing or a wharf, and that's when I'm very happy I have a "security" strap I can wrap around something in case the camera falls over.

Definitely a GREAT option for beginners i mean an f4 and full frame camera at $1500? Thats pretty good not for pros like the Z6 or A7iii (maybe even the EOS R) but still a great option Am i right?
@milesmccall23015 жыл бұрын
Well, it's $2200 for the kit with the 24-105. So no, not a great deal at all. Canon RP is basically equivalent to a first gen A7 (no IBIS, older sensor, no/useless 4k) which you can get for $800 or less, plus the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 for $800. So $1600 compared Canon's $2200 for a beginner setup. Plus Sony already has options for body upgrades as needed and a large used market. All of this on top of the fact that beginners don't need full frame in general. If someone really likes Canon and wants mirrorless then they should just get an M50 for $600.
@wyrmmm5 жыл бұрын
Miles McCall Beginners didn’t get full frame because of the price they had to pay. This changes all of that if someone is into just stills and want a full frame. With the EF Adaptor you have access to plenty of glass.

@@wyrmmm This changes nothing. The A7 has been available for $1000 or less since the A7III came out. Also the A7II just got discounted to $1299 *with a kit lens, which means the RP makes even less sense now.

For mirrorless cameras, I prefer kit straps over the Peak Design strap that I bought when I still had my Nikon D600 - unless you're hanging something substantial from your neck, I much prefer a slimmer and less seatbelty strap. It's just much more everyday friendly and doesn't get in the way as much for me. That said I basically never use straps anymore. Maybe I'll get a wrist strap or make a leather one myself or something but they just get in the way more often than not when you want to pull your camera from your bag for a shot and not have it dangle 24/7.

Craig Scarlett just to be clear, 24fps is not asking for everything. For the video people, that’s a HUGE miss. That’s the only thing missing from this camera. If it had that it would have been bought by now.
People keep throwing shade at Sony for not including battery chargers, but leave out that you can charge your battery in camera from any power source, even while in use. Canon forces you to either buy an overpriced adapter or you have to buy power banks with specific power delivery features. I'll take charging my battery in camera whenever/however I want over having an included battery charger that I'll never use.
@TheEverydayDad5 жыл бұрын
And I'll keep throwing it. It takes FOREVER to charge the battery inside of the Sony A7iii from half to full. For $2000 they should include a charger in the box. I love the A7iii but this is absolutely a poor decision.
@CKramburglar5 жыл бұрын
While the charge time is high, the battery is a beast so I'd expect that. I can only speak for myself, but I've never run dry while using a battery grip, so I just plug it in at the end of the day, and then charge time becomes irrelevant. Not to mention, if I do get low when I'm out, I can just plug in any power bank and run off that. The ability to charge with anything, whether the camera's in use or not, really is a great feature, that seems undervalued. Anyway, this is coming off like I have a beef now, which I don't, love the videos XD

I see why this would seemingly appeal to people, but I feel Canon is making a mistake here. The whole appeal of a full frame camera is not just the sensor. Traditionally, full frame bodies have been designed for the professional: so alongside the larger sensor, you'd get better low-light, better AF, customisability, durability etc. But with a 'budget' camera (and I use that term loosely in this case *look at those lens prices!*), those other features are missed out. The RP's low-light is similar to, if not worse than your typical APS-C sensor... It can't do basic 24fps shooting... The list could go on. I'm not fully hating on Canon, and this may be perfect for some people, but I feel the whole budget FF camera just makes no sense.
