That road is quite dangerous, it's supposed to be a 50mph road but it's reasonably wide and sort of looks like a country road so most people speed 60 - 80 mph and aggressively overtake you or tailgate if you want to go 50. People mainly use it to travel to work between barnsley and wakefield so it's always busy. There are no speed cameras, and there are a lot of small country roads that lead into it with blind corners. I don't know the frequency of accidents there but I do know this is hardly the first time and the council has long been aware of it. Also there are very few street lights at night, barely any at all in fact.

I've been motorcycling for 40 years, and never go out on a sunday. I take a day off in the week instead because the weekends are just full of weekend Valentino Rossi's. This accident happened in the peak time when everyone's tired, over confident and on their way home. My fellow bikers will always blame the motorist because they fail to anticipate. I have no idea who was at fault here, but if I HAD to bet my house I know who it would be. Tragic and unnecessary.

I ride a tuned yamaha R1 because it was flashed to suit an exhaust system to make me more visible and allow me to be heard by motorists, would you just assume that I think I'm Valentino Rossi because i have a sports bike? I was almost killed by a motorist who was high on cocain and speeding and ploughed into me at over 90mph while I slowed at 7mph in response to a crash ahead caused by an elderly motorist and saw a woman killed by the same guy that hit me, and people like you all said the same nonsense online because a bike was involved it must have been speeding, and started many rumours that were thankfully dispelledby CCTV evidence. I have a beautiful baby girl who is in my thoughts when I'm out on my bike enjoying my hobby and lifelong love of riding bikes, and yes, I obey the rules of the road and respect all vehicles although I trust none. My condolences to those who passed away, and I won't just assume blame because I'm not a know it all arsehole.

I was considering the same thing exactly. It could be that the family has asked for it to remain confidential, and thus the police are respecting those wishes. Sadly, it's not unusual for bikers to be passively demonised by the media and authorities in exactly this way. The polar opposite of no smoke without fire. Most experienced riders are accomplished road users with observation and perception that far exceeds that of the average car driver. But, I digress, the answer is that we don't know.

Total tragedy. One can have ideas what may or may not have happened. Speed does kill but human error can also account for some of these accidents. Why blame the car driver or the motor cyclist until it is known what happened. One of the drivers may have taken I'll. Although it is said it is a fast and dangerous road by locals. Looking at the track of where the car ended up and seeing no such track for the bike, I would be thinking that the bike and car hit so hard, the bike was embedded. As for fault? No one knows at present, but speed was involved. There have been a number of posts in various places that the biker wanted to set a speed record for the road. Common amongst the idiot fraternity in biking! (and I am a biker)

This is simply a tragic accident, I ride a 1000cc superbike, but I would never overtake on a blind bend, just as I would never pull out of a blind junction on four wheels. Mistakes happen, and I would put my life on the fact that no-one involved would ever have wish this upon anyone. The one and only possible saving grace to this tragedy is that it is publicised enough to raise awareness to make everyone on the road truly appreciate how much damage can be done. RIP to the biker, the pillion, and the poor family of four. I hope to god that the surviving little girl has the support she needs to pull through this. All gone way too soon

At those kinds of speeds the motorbike is a missile which can become embedded inside the car. At a Swedish motorshow the Swedish police and road safety bureau showed an exhibit of a crash-damaged VW Golf with the motorbike still embedded inside. It was horrific.

I live 2 minutes drive from where this tragic incident happened, drive past on my way to work this morning and the road will be closed for several days. Speed probably. I see sports bikes racing down these types of roads all the time on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer. Common for them to be overtaking down the centre of the road between cars too

We have witnessed so much poor driving especially on motorway junctions. Our last one was on the M5, traffic was slowing moving to join the M5 from M49 jun18 southbound when a white BMW came hurtling down the M5 hard shoulder crossed over the white chevrons lines causing us to slam on our brakes and then we watched in horror the driver barely got through the gap between two lorries (one a petrol lorry) by the side of us wheel spinning in the debris on the no man’s land. He then carried on the other hard shoulder for a while before rejoining the M5 weaving over two lanes to the so nicknamed the fast lane disappearing in a cloud of black smoke. He left behind many motorists who were very shaken at their near miss or possibly death.
