I sorta feel bad for Vincenzo Sospiri. Here he is, in the tiny 3-month window where he had the elite title of "F1 driver", and you can just feel the excitement and pride that radiated from him, joking around with Fisichella quite a bit throughout the program. He was named as a Lola driver in December 96... I believe this was early-March 97.... and the whole team folded around him a few weeks later... and that was it. F1 career over, attending only that Australian GP and never getting past a grand prix qualifying session. Never started a race. It's a real shame.

Watched him win the FFrord festival in the rain a few years earlier, great skills passed loads of people, didn't know he started an F1 season

Your comment reminds us just how many very talented drivers never get a decent chance in F1. Talent often isn’t enough.

Never seen this before. Would be difficult to gather so many top names in one place these days. Must say however, Clive James, absolute legend. In the same way Murray Walker brought the races alive as they were happening, Clive, in the season reviews of 82, 84 and 86 was basically my comfort food for years. I only wish he reviewed them all.

Among this group of amazing F1 personalities Ken Tyrrell just needed one sentence to shine the most. Until Murray Walker came on stage, obviously. It's incredible how much hype there was on HHFrentzen pre 1997 season.

Just found this video here and found that Clive James passed away some months ago. That made me sad. His sarcastic comments in F1 season reviews (= he) were great. Rest in Peace.

A decent driver for Tyrrell in the mid 90s (if the car would last 😅) and scored two top 5 finishes in 1994. He paved the way for Takuma Sato and Kamui Kobayashi and they would both score podiums in their careers. Right now, Yuki Tsunoda is possibly the best F1 from Japan and has that same bubbly personality like Ukyo here that makes him a favourite.
