When the algorithm showed me the first episode of this series, I almost didn't click on it. I was afraid it was going to be a sadistic gorefest, as so many videos with a similar theme can be. I am so glad I gave it a shot, because it was that amazing balance of brutal honesty in its imagery and total respect for the human beings at the center of those images. Episodes 2 and now 3 have kept up the great standard. I am looking forward to Episode 4! And, as someone who has, I confess, been more of a CART/IndyCar fan than F1, I really can't wait to see your piece on Alex Zanardi.

1:09:41 "Before you had barriers, you had trees." This single line, short as it is, and the clip of Jim Clark... yeah, that punched a hole in my heart. Phenomenal work on this third installment, but man, despite being a featuring of non-fatal crashes, some of these hit me really hard. I now understand why you said this would be a mix of episode 1 and episode 2, and the end result was worth every bit of patience. My favourite thing, and something that I paid attention to throughout the entirety of the premiere, is how you structured each of the crashes: 1) Giving the context and the background leading up to each crash (which, in some cases, helps lifting off the emotional baggage from a previous horrific crash). 2) Treating each of these crashes with profound respect for the people involved. 3) Narrating the aftermath of the crashes in a cathartic and emotional way, even when things didn't turn out for the better. I'm not sure if you have any writing background, but that kind of structure takes some serious skill to execute properly. And as much as this comment may look AI-generated; nah. It's just me talking out of my ass and trying to sound smart with big words. Anyway, great work on this episode Jack, and I shall be looking forward to the finale!
@MotorMad4 ай бұрын
Thank you! No I don't have any writing background. I remember my English teacher back in school trying to encourage me to take up journalism because she thought I was good at writing but I didn't think much of it at the time. So that's basically it for my writing background 😅

Some people are just build different. Imagine jumping out of your car to pull someone out of a flames inferno, setting yourself on fire in doing so, extinguishing yourself _ONLY TO RETURN_ to rescue someones life. Because you are an absolute mastermind with thouse type of videos. With the scenes you picked and the mix from commentary, your commentary, than the engine noise and the music. Its just on a different level to 99% of KZbin and better than some productions from ppl who have a complete production team behind them and money without limit. Dude made me nearly tear up. I hope we get more from you in this direction because this is something who makes me personally happy? If anyone ever has any doubts about the safety of F1 now as compared to the past look no further than Romain Grosjean's crash at Bahrain 2020. I'm sure most people have seen it by now. His car hit a metal guardrail at well over 100 mph and actually cramming itself between the upper and lower pieces. It burst into flames immediately (which already is a rarity in modern F1), but every time he tried to climb out something was blocking him (the upper railing) he said he tried a couple of different angles but couldn't fit and just sat there coming to the realization that this was the end, before finally finding a way to maneuver his way out all while still fully engulfed in flames. The cameras shooting the scene actually showed him through the fire trying to get out. Yet finally all of the sudden all you saw was the driver standing up and stepping out of the car and out of the flames. What would have been a no doubt deadly crash years ago now resulted in some burns to his hands and feet, not that they weren't bad or anything but the fact they not only didn't kill him they didn't even end his racing career. Those racing suits are remarkable. Between that and the attributes of carbon fiber what once would have been an assured death is now something that can be walked away from, well those 2 things as well as the hans device which stopped the thing that originally was worn for safety (the helmet) from being the reason for many of the driver deaths as the sudden impact combined with the heavy helmet with not neck supports meant they were more likely to break there necks with the helmet than without. The video of him rising up out of the fire and jumping over the railing makes him look like a badass, if that were me i would have at least pictures of it framed on my wall.

I saw both the Luciano Burti's crashes live. If in the Hockenheim one i thought he's been lucky in the Spa one i definitely thought he was done for. The view of Eddie Irvine helping and crying and swearing for help and the marshals unable to remove the tires and the view of the blankets over the body of Burti after he was moved from the barriers...i mean brutal. Sad that his career ended basically that that. He was kinda quick in bad cars. Better than a lot of paying drivers we saw on grid.
@raulv04173 ай бұрын
Thanks for mentioning the history of the Rodriguez brothers and the Mexico track. Indeed, it was built inspired in Monza and was also 5 Km in length in the original configuration. I was a track marshall at the 1986 Mexican Grand Prix. The circuit was all about momentum and the key sections were the esses and the Peraltada corner. After Senna had his accident there, he campaigned furiously to remove the banking from the Peraltada and he was successful. The corner was not even a shadow of what if was before, and what Tilke did to the track is turn it into a sanitized and lame version of the original design. I would love to see the original banked Peraltada corner, but a stadium was built there, which was a baseball stadium (not in use anymore for sports), made the corner blind and dangerous. Formula E uses it because in the Formula E configuration, the corner is taken at much less speed. I do remember that accident by Phillipe Alliot and can confirm that the earth shook on impact. It was on a practice session.

Thank you! The research comes from multiple sources. I basically watched every F1 race I could from 1980 over a 2 year period so alot of information came from just watching those. Race reports from the likes of motorsport magazine & autosport are also good. Usually I read multiple sources on the same subject just to make sure that everything is correct. I've listened to hours of podcasts & interviews which are good for learning about more personal stories such as Donnelly talking about Senna's breakfast. And many other smaller websites & books give a lot of good information too!

Also, his partner was pregnant at the time of his death, and later gave birth to twin boys, who were named Didier and Gilles. Gilles joined Mercedes AMG Petronas as an engineer in 2014; and even accepted the constructor's trophy on the podium following the 2020 British Grand Prix

Once again, excellent work, Jack. You're raising the bar on YT F1 history coverage. A couple of minor points - the Spanish Grand Prix dates from well before the advent of F1, first running in 1913. Oddly enough, that race stands as the only Grand Prix win for Rolls-Royce. Secondly (and more a comment than a correction), when Jochen Rindt was suspicious of Chapman & Lotus, he was right to be. The crashes at Montjuic were totally avoidable, but Colin wanted to fiddle with the cars, experimenting in the race by extending the rear wings of both cars by nearly a foot each side. These extensions are clearly visible in the colour photo's, as the aluminium used was left unpainted. Cheers... G

We tend to think of all F1 drivers as "heroes" in many ways, risking their lives for glory etc., but in a very real sense the true heroes are people like Hailwood and Purley. What they did goes far beyond anything else that happens in this silly little sport we're all obsessed with, throwing themselves into flames for the sake of another and with little regard for their own safety. These are people you would want by your side during any hard situation in life. They are heroes to humanity.

You did an amazing job of all these episodes. Very informative and very fascinating. ❤❤❤❤❤ you should do Moto GP next… though I don’t know if YT will allow it
