Hah! did not know that. We tied the "G and H" in a 2x long size 8 for the motorboat hatch on Manzanita Lake, Lassen Volcanic Park long ago. Like Henery the Hatch gone, good memories remain. thanks for the information, and vide. Best of luck on the Finnmarksvidda?

Thank you. What an awesome tutorial video. Without the hackle, that fly is almost exactly a fly used extensively in Otago, New Zealand. Now I can learn to tie it. Thank you. Its what we call a Deer Hair Sedge Yes I know it's different from the Wyatt version:) But it is what we use here now a days. I believe it was brought here by the champion english fly caster Mike Weddel in the 1980's.

You're very welcome! It's a version of the original Goddard and Henry (G&H) sedge from the early 80's in the UK.

Looks like an improvement on the Goddard Caddis by making it a parachute. Thanks for sharing. I think this one will sit well in the surface film.

Barry- I hope all is well! I've been meaning to comment on your Mustad intro. It's amazing. You've got a voice like a seasoned television pro! And of course, great video. (I still watch, just don't always make it down here into the comments.) Now I'm off to Iceland for some vacation time. I hope to see you if you make it back to the states this fall. Cheers. -Matt

Brilliant fly Barry. I had a lot of sea trout on the Goddart fly at night, and a 5 pound chub. I'll give this a go, though, it's just as well that fish aren't too fussy, as mine won't be a well tied as yours. Good luck on the trip.

How do you get the petitjean Bobbin to work so well? My thread always gets caught. What's the trick?
@Thefeatherbender Жыл бұрын
Hi, firstly you have to load the thread correctly and make sure that all the thread is behind the tip ring. You must also use the bobbin with the 'closed' side of the tip towards you. If it still doesn't work for you after you have done these two things, you may have a faulty bobbin.

I suggest putting a light coat of Sally H etc. on that post thread prior to winding the hackle to ensure it is bomb proof! Might be worth a try for Atl. Salmon?? What was the tool you used to melt the post?

Hi, thanks. It's a cautery tool.

Founder of a Nyblom Caddis, Janne Nyblom, said that his caddis look like a starving caddis. Your version is a little bit chubbier. But great fly and great tying again!

Thanks Dude, always good to get additional info about a pattern.

I have been tying for over 20 years and I think I could tie for another 25 years and still not be even close to your skill level. Absolutely an artist in motion. Your designs are too pretty fish! Just enjoy watching you and your passion. Thanks Feather Bender! God bless and I hope you have a great day!

do you remember the "Goddard Caddis" from 50 years ago? IMO it is the more affective pattern, nice tie though.
@ThefeatherbenderАй бұрын
Of course I do! But it was originally called the G&H sedge - Goddard & Henry Caddis, but poor old Henry has been forgotten...

Hi Barry, I'm a good way through your beginners book now (absolutely brilliant by the way), and I've been using the material pack with it. Obviously the material pack has its limits when you start tying flies outside of its scope! do you have any must have materials you recommend? hackles, threads, wires etc that aren't included in the pack?
@Thefeatherbender Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks. The pack is well equipped to tie hundreds of patterns outside those in the book. You may find that after a while you will need to supplement some of the materials as you run out, such as , hackle, deer hair etc. Once you have completed all the patterns in the book, you will move on to tying other patterns that may require other materials, this is normally the way forward in growing your collection of materials. Buy quality and the materials will serve you well and long.

I have been wondering on ways to make a more realistic looking house builder caddis, maybe one customizable to the debris on a specific stream. This would be so good if it wasnt so buoyant. Have you ever thought of coming up with something similar? I just cant think of any way to put materials on that would actually look like a real caddis with a debris covering
