In this episode we talk about a list of 20 or so herbs that you absolutely need in your apothecary for an "end of the world" scenario. What do you do when you can't get to the hospital. What if the medical system doesn't exist anymore? Or maybe more simply, what happens if you have something you need to treat and there's no time to get to a medical facility? Grab a notebook and pencil, you'll want to write this info down.

Great info. My grandfather was a doctor from the 1920s to 1960s. My grandmother was a nurse. So they worked together and had an office area to see patients in their home. Parents from this time and earlier just knew a lot of this information. They wouldn't call my grandfather until after many of these herbs were tried. Or for injuries, broken bones, childbirth, old age, weird fluke injuries. Most couldn't afford doctor bills as well with having so many children so they would try these home medicinal herbs first. The medical/pharm community learned from these era doctors and pharmacists to make medicines rather than using herbs. Around the 50s and 60s pressure was put on to move over to hospitals instead of house calls and pharm meds instead of natural plants.

@@jerseystotler3615 I don’t know much about the berries except what was mentioned in the video. To harvest the root you are supposed to wait until the fall when the stalk dies back. Harvest the ROOT and chop into very small pieces. I make tinctures using the root well covered with 100 proof vodka. It takes 6 weeks before you strain it. We only recommend 3 drops, then 12 hours later 2 drops, then 12 more hours later 2 more drops.

I wish I had known about poke root when my son was born! I had mastitis, and due to my being allergic to penicillin and the bacteria being resistant to the antibiotic they gave me, I ended up with an abcess, which had to be drained in the hospital multiple times. It was an incredibly painful experience, and my milk never came back, even when my daughter was born 2 years later, so I had to feed entirely from one boob :( Definitely I will be preparing some of this for others...

I had never heard of this and so had to look it up and thought your listeners might also be interested... Fringetree or Fringe Tree (Chionanthus Virginicus) American Fringe Tree is a small deciduous tree in the Oleaceae (Olive) family. It is native to the Southeastern United States but is hardy as far north as Maine, as far south as Florida, and as far west as Texas. It prefers moist acidic soil types and full sun, but is adaptable to part-sun, part-shade habitats and does not tolerate drought conditions, hardy in zones 4-9. Its genus name comes from the Greek chion meaning snow and Anthos meaning flower. It generally grows from 12 to 20 feet tall and wide, with a multi-stemmed rounded habit. Flowers in late Spring (May-June) with fragrant white, wispy, cloudlike flowers of pure white at the end of their branches. The fruit of the fringe tree is called a dark blue drupe that ripens in August and September and is usually well hidden by the foliage of the tree. The dark blue drupe fruit is well-loved by all bird types. Male and female trees must be in the same area for fruit production to appear. The stems of the fringe tree range from green to brown to purple-brown. Closely related to the Chinese Fringe Tree (Chionanthus retusus).

So I just learned something very interesting and very helpful. This past spring my husband and I put two gardens in our front yard, of which all plants were purchased at the same nursery except for the echinacea. These are the first flower gardens we have ever put in together and really had a lot of fun doing so (even though I broke my foot). We have our vegetable gardens out back, and a small fruit orchard next door to us that we have been perfecting our talents on for several years, but as for flowers, this is our first. Due to being laid up for most of the summer to avoid having surgery (on my foot), I decided to catch up on my herb and apothecary studies. We've started watching this very large plant start to emerge in one of the gardens and finding it interesting, decided to watch it and see what it developed into. Recently a neighbor turned me on to an app for my phone called "Picture-It" and I have been walking all over the property taking pictures and learning about all the things growing around me. Well, as it turns out that giant plant growing in my garden is a Poke plant, and my husband and I learned that birds love the berries and had decided to let it grow for the winter or at least until the birds pick it clean. Now I just learned from you that the root is very important to have in an apothecary. Thank you for all the wonderful information that I am learning from you. Who says this old bird can't learn new things...lol

Hospice brought us bleed stops which didn't help so when I made the tea I put gauze pads in a container and filled it with the tea. Love your info, Amy, but how do you know when someone has appendicitis? Im an RN and know aĺl cases of RLQ pain arent necessarily the appendix. Bowel obstructions, infections of the peritoneum can also be in play. I have also chewed the leaf in instance of toothache. It works great but will numb your mouth.

Please help. I have a variety of dried and ground leaves from my yard - mostly rain or hose washed/dried. Are these safe to use 2 yrs later I have kept jarred with dry packs. I have MS and spine injury and want to try Mullein for over active bladder and irritation. Or please recommend if something would be better. RX medications give too many side effects. I have goldenrod - white mulberry- black raspberry- catnip and prickly lettuce too. Would use as tea. Or appreciate any suggestions that I can try. Thanks so much ❤

Only one nursery other than the box stores has been allowed to survive in our town. It is located next to our airport which has abc facilities across the road. Am 100% sure the nursery is abc owned as ANY medicinal herb is not available or off like they carry decorative yarrow not medicinal.

The Real Biblical meaning of apocalypse means "the revealing" so Christ coming again is the Apocalypse. Somehow the Catholic church turned the common idea of Apocalypse to mean the terrible end for Christians & unbelievers alike.
