I've always heard it pronounced with the emphasis on the i in the USA. I.e. Cal-aye-oh-pea. :)

Yep, like the steam whistle sound keyboard instrument I associate with the circus

Ca- li- oh- pe, accent on the o is a Greek muse of music and poetry. Calliope - ka-li-uh-pe, accent on the li, is a steam powered organ used in circus music.

Hello, I have been watching your teaching videos on KZbin and enjoy your playing as well as your teaching. I have just listen to Calliope house jig as I am from Pittsburgh and a friend was asking me to learn the tune. I have lived in Pittsburgh all my life have been involved with calliope house since about 1983. It appears that most of the people from the UK pronounce it “ Kal’ e’ oh’ pee. Here in Pittsburgh we pronounce it “ka’ lie’ oh’ pe.” I am commenting here as you requested any additional information on your KZbin video. Again I appreciate your playing and your teaching videos thank you very much.

Hello! What violin do you recommend for beginner violin interested in Irish music?
@TheFiddleChannel Жыл бұрын
Hi Roderick. In my opinion the style of music you play is not relevant to your instrument, at least at the early stages. I recommend you get a new violin to start with, nothing expensive.

Not the Boys of the Lock. It's the Boys of the Lough - pronounced as in Scottish Loch! Just a wee cultural correction!
