As an officer myself I'll say this. It doesn't take the numerous hours of cqb, tactical, firearms, or whatever training to get this done. It doesn't take SWAT, Incident Command, and medical resources on standby. It takes the ability to walk and pull a trigger on a loaded gun. That's it. If you can't accept dying a hero over living a coward, there is no room for you in this profession.

There is a difference legally and in training from military to a police officer. I’ve known Barney Fife types. Because they are different is why the Supreme Court upheld DC Appeal Court ruling that officer have no specific legal duty to protect. They aren’t military with your training and contractual commitment to put your life in the line. Some do but it’s not legally required. They are certainly cowards or morons though

What happen in Uvalde has nothing to do with cowardice and the whole situation brings up a very important point and it goes across many professions is the mentality/readiness to perform a job in a stressful/emergency situation. For instance a medical student does not have the capabilities to be a doctor if they freeze the moment they see a patient collapse and cannot immediately go into assessment mode. The person can be an excellent student with perfect scores in exams but if the person does not have the mental capacity then all the book knowledge will not be of any help. Uvalde is an issue of lack of training and BAD recruitment policies. In the USA there should be psychometric testing/assessments for certain professions specially those involving the welfare of society. But what can one expect? when there is active recruitment of military reserves with a past history of anxiety, depression and suicide attempts with hospitalization. Incredible but it is taking place people with mental/emotional instability getting into positions that require making stressful decisions that will impact others in society. Uvalde is the tip of the iceberg in the hiring/training policies across many professions that impact USA society. But such is the mentality in the USA letting people graduate and practice important professions that impact peoples life with a C average score or "affirmative action legislation" let in someone without the ability/capability/talent in order to fulfill the quota.

A little boy who was in the room hiding said that at one point, police called out through the walls for any survivors to shout for help so the officers would know there were survivors to rescue. A little girl responded, crying out for help. When she did so, the shooter walked over to her and shot her. So I find it very hard to believe that the officers in the hallway thought the shooter was barricaded alone.

Its as if everyone in those rooms were sacrificed for the sole reason of keeping the shooter blocked off in the room with no escape! And as for those men in the corridors outside the room to claim they did not know children were in their dead and dying, its a school within school hours, what are the chances children might be in the rooms? Its a big fucking chance if you use your brain, and are they trying to claim that no one in the corridor managed to get a quick look through the glass window on the door, or even from a window outside for over an hour!! In that hour how many times could someone sneek up or run around to the outside for a look? But not only that why did no ask the office staff at the school, they would have know what teachers and what students would be in those rooms at that time of day!! I heard that as officers turned up they were sent on crowd control, in other words go keep the other children and teachers out of the way by either confining them or evacuating them, i can just imagine those cops ignoring staff who wanted to help by giving valuable information, things like who was in those rooms, how many, if keys were needed, i bet they was rushed off to a safe place! The communication was terrible, i also heard that not only did 7 of the 8 forces that attended their radios did not work inside but also the school responder who works at the school and is their for this exact thing his radio only worked when he left the buildings, whats the point in that!!

Because for the last 25 years the only thing cops have cared about is petty, victimless crime enforcing, and them going home at night. Not only did anyone paying attention expect the profession to become this after decades of uselessness and self preservation, the police themselves went home thinking "we did a good job, this is what the public wants us to do". Because no matter what they do, massive swaths of the population congratulate them on making it home to their cozy pension above all. They are a liability at this point, they exist to protect themselves, which defeats the supposed purpose of them existing at all, when you asking for help is just as likely to get you harmed, killed, or arrested in the process.

I am a retired LEO and veteran. The problem we had and still have in Law Enforcement is not the training but that the majority can not think on their feet. Most have no decision making ability. Most can not distinguish between a lawful order and an unlawful order! There is no Chief, D.A., or politician that has the authority to tell a L.E.O. to stand down while a crime is being committed in their presence. L.E.O.'s authority comes from state law! The problem is that most L.E.O.'s do not know the law. Yes, they know the laws that they deal with on an everyday basis but most do not know where their authority derives. Most do not know of malfeasance and nonfeasance, and the difference. Most L.E.O.'s blindly follow orders through ignorance and a fear of retaliation or retribution after the fact. Most officers in this country have been properly trained but unfortunately are cowards to carry out that training and their duties when a SHTF plays out in the real world. There was a time in history when L.E.O.'s were like you military types. Type A personalities that could conduct business when necessary. Unfortunately, affirmative action and political correctness took over and now many people being hired should not be there. There was no purpose for the shields in this incident! Your weapon and aggression is your shield! Get your ass in there and stop the killing!
@jasonpadilla4590

Affirmative action, etc. are not the reason those officers failed... It was entirely their own lack of integrity and initiative. Yes, the culture in LE has changed to cause officers to fear litigation, or retributions from higher based on too strict adherence to policies, but this failure - at its base - is entirely the fault of those officers. Be pissed all you want at whomever, but do not absolve those on scene from their responsibilities as either LEOs, citizens or humans.

And that's still true today -- elimination of the threat is by far the highest priority, with as much resources dedicated to that as the situation requires. Providing aid to the wounded is a distant second unless there are additional, unneeded human resources beyond what the threat requires. Simple logic explains this process, thus the hallway video shows that the first responders were not considering the greater good that day, but instead chose to look out for their own well-being.

The University of Texas tower shooting in 66. Law enforcement and regular citizens responded by shooting up at the sniper, others got the injured away while being shot at. Two policeman and one citizen went up to the top of the tower to confront the shooter. One policeman fired his revolver and the other fired his shotgun, killing the shooter. None had special training or sophisticated equipment. And today, in Colorado, Florida and Uvalde, TX, law enforcement with ARs stand by and do nothing.

In today's day and age it is perfectly fine to be a pussy that's what all this advancement and tech is for but don't get a job where a badge, gun, or any other symbol of authority gives you an excuse/cover to be a pussy

Yet all these trained cops with their tactical gear, A-15s and shields sat at the opposite end of the hallway while 6 more shots rang out from a classroom meaning 6 more people lost their lives, cause the cops were cowards shaking in their boots and put their lives before the lives of children, I hope these cops have nightmares, they are a disgrace to all law enforcement who are willing to take a bullet, a disgrace to all the officers who have taken bullets and lost their lives in the line of duty, they are a disgrace to all the families of all fallen heroes across this country and around the world. Retired Police officer from NY. This is the WORST failure in the history of law enforcement. I was a 9/11 first responder and what I witnessed and was involved in on that day was pure heroism from NYPD and all LE on scene/FD/Ems and even many civilians. Everyone that I have worked with in my career would have taken that door with me, all knowing that one of us might not make it out. That is the oath we took. What we are witnessing from all the body cam footage is pure cowardice. They can try and blame bad communication but they knew what happened in the classroom down to the offices wife being shot. 10+ agencies from local/state and federal agencies and in an active shooter scenario where injuries/casualties every second counts and they waited 4200+ seconds(think about it as 4200 seconds.) Beyond disturbed that the first 3 officers who were shot at retreated for cover, but didn’t immediately formulate a plan and execute it instantly. I can go on and on about this failure. It just hurts to see brothers in blue not do what their training has taught them to do in an active shooter. The answer of why didn’t they act seems simple. They just didn’t have the balls to take that door and eliminate the threat. I am heartbroken for all the children/teachers tragically lost and their families.

Mike, the full video has been leaked and is on full display for anyone to watch, if you can. Personally, as a retired LEO for a large CA Sheriff's Department with 22 years of service, I am disgusted with what I saw on that video. These officers retreated from the sound of gunfire and stood around in safety for 77 minutes while you can hear the screams and repeated shots by the shooter. This was never a "barricaded" suspect situation. These responding officers fell back on their basic level of training as we all do in a crisis situation. Unfortunately, their basic level of training was nothing. These officers failed the fundamental test as a police officer. Will you give your life to save others. This is what we are sworn to do, if necessary. Yes, the first couple of officers through that door may get shot but it's the overall violence of action and overwhelming suppressive fire that will ultimately kill the shooter. You go to the sound of gunfire and you dont stop until the shooter is dead. This is especially true when 3rd and 4th graders are being slaughtered by high power rifle fire. Uvalde should be a wake up for every officer out there who isnt fully engaged and honest about the realities of the job. It doesn't matter where you work as a cop, small town or major city, the time may come for you to defend a innocent civilian with your life.

Or do you think it was just cowardice? I ask because of course many see it as them be cowardly, and I ponder on if we might see more of these type of actions from officers in the future. I probably just read into stuff too much, but I would think there has to be some cause and effect that comes into play regarding all of the hatred, regulations, restrictions and et cetera. to Fieldcraft Survival Channel, sir I just wanted to say thank you for making the original video you made re: this event. I dont comment often but your response hit me, you are spot on in your observations and criticisms of the officers that were first on the scene. The truth is the fight or flight instinct is real. People can say they would do this or that if or when hypothetically face to face with unexpected situations, especially so if the wrong move may very well end ones own life, many simply will choke. A few years ago I considered myself as being aware of the dangers of the ocean, prepared myself the best I could everytime I went in the waves on a board or even switching it up with kayak fishing or doing a distance row crossing catalina island channel, i felt i had the training and preparation to keep my cool even in difficult situations. My fight or flight test came one ordinary day while out in the water I found myself face to face with what was later determined to be an 18ft white shark, never before in my life had I been so stupified frozen in fear my brain knew I had to move but the nerves to my muscles felt like they could not fire no matter how hard I tried, my eyes dialated tunnel vision and twitched to the beat of an already very audible heart rate. Despite my best preparations and seemingly understanding of "knowing they are out there", I neither was able to fight nor take flight, instead I learned something nobody wants to learn in that situation, I froze. That confidence I had didnt do me any good and was insufficent for the unexpected threat I encountered that day. Training is great but all the training in the world isnt going to help if you just arnt cut out to fully commit to the task of being able to shift into gear when possible scenarios become very real present shituations. People can get hurt even when fully prepared, but if you cant hang with what could be required of you then you need to stay your butt on the shore. It hurt to watch these officers in the video for many reasons. Ive talked to a few close friends about this and read pages of the comments for your videos, your reaction has no doubt touched the nerve at a very critical time in this nation. I conclude with this, that it bothers people deeply because not only are officers trained for this but even more importantly this hits at the core of why we all feel there are inidividuals we entrust with the responsibility to police in the first place. I dont accept this new trend that people have to almost remind everyone they arnt a conspiracy theorist whenever espousing an opinion or asking questions that dont seem to be spoken outloud. it bird sh!t brain of a mentality beneath any individual whom possesses the ability to think critically. People the world over conspire that is to say work in tandem or in concert together to achieve objectives everyday and depending on ones perspective could be seen to be "good" or "bad" two very often used but less commonly understood single syllable adjectives that seem to get lots of play these days? excellent. now before anyone says that defunding the police was a bad idea, of course it was a bad idea, but instead we mighy brainstorm ideas on the what wheres whys and most of all whoms most benefitted from elevating such a fringe idea to such prominent national media attention and discourse? well whom might you wonder would possibly want to scare the crap out of most people by presenting the country in the light of utter chaos? certainly not to derail the most meaningful police reform discussions and votes in your legislature in the last century combined right? defintely not to dodge a closer inspection of massive asset forfeiture by police departments pre conviction and the 6 lane highway conflict of interest it might produce for all citizens? most certainly not to avoid any changes in perception and law that would make this country take a hard stop to the gravy train railroad and selling off those sexy unsecured seized assets faster than the race car on a monopoly board. giving police not just the training but the mandate to serve honorably and protect the people by equipping them with the proper requirements for their very being. if doing everything we have been doing since the 1950s cultivates a bumper crop this year of ohh say 100,000 dead this year alone from fentanyl a previously rare substance on the street magically found its way into every drug during the year where your biggest money maker needed to justify to the public that its still needed..we know your intentions are pure, nobody thinks you plan to intend to keep washing societys proverbial windows regardless of what we think or plead...or vote, no we agree we cant defund the police but we arnt going to abuse you either by making your sole source of duty being the enforcement of arbitrary drug laws that really ought to be left alone since hey it is a country of free individuals and we seem to already have laws that work pretty well if people get out of line and act a fool so to speak. update to the operating system --- a school shooting is the health and safety violation. que the windows shutdown sound and the people rejoiced oh the people they did so rejoice. thank you

There was enough screaming from the victims that the audio had to be cut out of the video and 911 calls from CHILDREN and teachers inside … they knew there were children being shot. And sat for over 30 minutes??? There is no way to explain that away.

A 9/11 call came in from a teacher _before_ the shooter had entered the school. She knew he had a gun so perhaps he had been shooting at the outside of the building before he tried entering. Prior to that he shot at two people who came to help him after he crashed his grandmother's car in a field adjacent to the school's field. The cops weren't there when the initial shooting took place at 11:33 AM but you certainly would think they could have detained him for shooting at two people outside, before he was able to get close enough to the school. They arrived a few minutes after the initial shooting inside the school. Three cops tried to approach the classroom and were shot at. They retreated. One tried to get close to the classroom again but nobody followed him for backup so he retreated. Then the husband cop (one of the first three on the scene) of the teacher who had been shot was disarmed and detained by his fellow officers never to be seen on surveillance footage again. Collectively, they finally breached the classroom an hour and seventeen minutes later at 12:50 PM.

The Columbine high school shooting taught the lesson to move in immediately. As a former teacher who went through lockdowns each of my twelve years as a teacher I just can't fathom not responding. I stopped a man in a hallway who was intending to take a girl off our campus. I had no gun or weapon, but that man was not going to get past me. Many years ago while training for active shooter response in a school using simunitions my weapon malfunctioned while entering a room to engage the shooter (being played by our swat commander) so I held back to try to get my weapon back in battery. The commander proceeded to tear me a new one and told me that it didn’t matter if I didn’t have a weapon that I still had my knife, baton, taser or even fists. Bottom line as a sworn officer you engage the shooter with any and everything you have and you end that threat. If they're not willing to risk it all for kids' lives, they have reduced the profession to that of a tax collector. This particular guy became a barricaded shooter because he was allowed enough time to do so. 3 officers could have breached and overwhelmed the suspect with minimal team training, which it appears this dept does not do well enough or at all.. Dozens of officers were walking around with no organization, SOP execution, or action(because no one who was willing to act knew wtf was happening). He had him in his sights and didn't take the shot...... Just a giant sh*tshow all around. Good summary. The lessons learned on this AAR could be a mile long, because not much was done right. We now have the: 1. The time stamped video 2. The Texas government written report 3. The Chief, DPS testimony at the Texas Senate hearing 4. The ALERT report These events occur stunningly fast. 100 rounds fired in the classroom in a few minutes. A 3 man team went down the hall to breach within minutes of the Bad Guy entry. When he fired through wall/door, they ran. The ALERT report BTW was wrong on an officer asking permission to shoot. What we're left with is a perfect example of 'target fixation'..... 376 officers couldn't 'see' 2 unlocked doors or 4 windows into the 2 joined classrooms. Luckily, the shooter stayed in the classroom and didn't go down the hall to more classrooms. Sadly, Congress hasn't addressed the systemic issues and is not developing programmatic countermeasures for future events. Read about the Virginia Tech shooting.

Question (since you might know the answer) - why would a police officer ask for permission to shoot when he had the murderer in his sights? I've literally watched American police officers murder civilians by shooting them in the back, by choking them to death (and laughing at them as they died (Tony Timpa)), by executing them with a rifle as they begged for their life (Daniel Shaver), and so on and so forth, and in every single case the police officer is found to have done no wrong and either continues to be a police officer or retires with full pension. If police officers can choke Tony Timpa to death (and laugh while they do it) and execute Daniel Shaver with a rifle as he's crying and begging for his life and get away with it, why the fuck wouldn't this officer assume he could get away with killing a mass murdering school shooter? As former Law Enforcement, I find it impossible to believe that BORTAC had no knowledge there were kids in the room. Cops TALK to each other all the damn time, at every incident. I find it impossible to believe that the Team Commander didn't seek out further information from LE on the scene before them. That alone would be negligent on the part of BORTAC. As far as I'm concerned, every single damn LEO at the scene that day should be charged with multiple negligent homicides.

I would have told that 'no balls' Chief to fire me if he wanted but I'm still going in. They were told. From the Texas House report: BORTAC Acting Commander Paul Guerrero came to the north side of the building upon his arrival at Robb Elementary. In a post-incident statement, he said he was advised “that the subject had possibly shot multiple children and was still in the classroom.” Anonymous supervisor trying to cover up BORTAC’s failure. Timing and details of that information being leaked to Mike was wayyy too convenient especially given how inherently unbelievable it was. Also made clear they weren’t told to stand down by Arredondo nor at any point did BORTAC defer to him as the on scene commander. CBP is embarrassed and engaging in some major CYA.

When I was in the Army, it was required that you have the mindset that if your leadership is out of action for any reason, those led by that soldier would take initiative and continue the mission. The Assistant Team Leader would step up and lead and if they didn’t, one of the other teammates would. It was also taught that when you have a lack of orders from command, you’re free to decide yourself to do what you see needs done, as a leader. Using the Uvalde shooting as an example: The Chief wasn’t doing anything, not saying anything, not engaged with the officers in any way. In that case, the officers present should have made the decision themselves to deal with the shooter. To go and check the door to see if it needed breached by tools or if the doorknob was unlocked. Had those officers taken it upon themselves to end the situation with all possible haste, we’d be talking about a completely different story. The chief might still be on the chopping block, but the rest of that situation would have been handled. It’s sad to see how this all turned out.

Mike is telling it like it is. Mike is telling the truth. What happened in Uvalde was a massacre that was mishandled by incompetent officers who have since tried to cover up their gross negligence. The police chief was days away from being sworn in as a city council member. With his deep ties in the law enforcement community, it is my opinion that he did not want any officer casualties on his hands. He must have assumed that the shooter would run out of ammunition, or end his life. So he chose to do nothing. And now he is worse off had directed the officers to go in.
